  3. In My Opinion one of the greatest 70's sounds and often classed as rare groove but I just wondered how rare a 7" of this is as over the last 10 years ive tried to find a copy and never came across one until recently offered one by Dave and Bri Pinches and of course bought it....... but does it get played anywhere. I know its on the Sinbad album but the single seems scarce Geooordie

  6. Quote at start of thread was is this the sign of the times .venues closing due to the overkill.new ones starting up people thinking they can replace them ? we ask ourselves is the scene going to kill it,s self due to the overkill to many venues running the same night ?splitting the crowd ? In my Opinion YES
  7. Goodness me when i see threads like this i wonder where everyone was back in 79/80????? this was a massive club sound, Lofty at the sands club whitley bay, Pete simpson at Churchills even Ruben Condy at the Burgundy Cobbler give it a spin and these were only Disco DJ's, was massive up the toon clubs also, especially Julies. When I here or see "this was a clifton hall sound/spin"????? i scratch my head, it was a general club sound and was blasted on Metro radio Daily. Great sound still have my original 12" and play it regularly... Geeooordie
  8. i played come on and stop marv johnson and annabel ceaser little annie years-eons ago and was told to stop playing rock n roll, sold marv for a tenner so lost out there, kept hold of annabel for no real reason and then years later sold it for £250 quid.. as was pestered to sell it by the hardened northern soul fan who incidently told me to stop playing rock and roll ............ to be honest,... r&B and rock and roll they were...win some, lose some Geeoooordie

  12. Hi Mike I ticked the who cares box...why, well years ago i loved it coz i was young and it was all fresh and couldnt wait to get to a venue to hear something new, and at the time i was over zealous myself that there was nothing better than "Northern soul", and id only find what i was looking for at a Northern venue Then over the years the music has, for me, become same ol same old on the "Northern Soul" scene. When I opened my ears and actually listened to SOUL music i started to enjoy a different culture from the early 70s to date. if i go to a NORTHERN SOUL venue i wont hear what anything new and most of the time im left cold at the music policy of playing safe, i hear better tunes at dave and bri pinches on a saturday afternoon, than ive heard at many a venue for years now. Last time i really enjoyed nyself was about 3 years ago at sheridans at one of butches spots, for me the question of what is the current state of northern soul in the UK 2007 Same as it was in 1984 but with some of the old youth club crowd getting back into it swelling the ranks wanting to hear what they loved about the scene 1974-79 not knocking them for coming back but the music policy of many venues needs to progress. I ran the friendship for 4 years and we tried to be progressive with "Modern tunes" from 1971 onwards (mixing in 60s of course) and we were shafted for it, see malc burtons summary of the corner pocket closing in mexborough on this site, i think that outlines the state of the scene....in South Yorkshire anyway. so who cares..is it better or is it worse, lets just enjoy the music i know a few folk die hard 60's fans who tap along and sing a few phrases to a 70's tune, then deny they like it...as if it matters, The soul scene is healthy ... the Northern soul scene. ......lets loose the tag line for the dance style me thinks then the tunes may progress Geeooooordie
  13. Hi Malc Sorry to hear the news Myself and Mark whiteley struggled with the friendship for four years not too far from you in barnsley, trying everything from 60ts to modern and got bellyache from the third finger left hand brigade In south yorkshire especially barnsley if you dont play the tried and tested and i mean to death (dont try to slip a slight newie from 1971 in their or they'll nab you) forget it. I didnt come and support your venue myself but then after the friendship finished last april ive stopped going out..sick of listening to the same old tunes.and sickened with the many peoples attitude to the music if its not blatent oldies etc etc. maybe if more people like myself who like a progressive venue had supported you, it would still be on!!! who knows Geeoooordie
  14. Oh forgot to mention, isnt Modern, a 70's track that hasnt had too much exposure and when it does and the zimmer frames are twitching to the beat, if its got an uptempo beat, it is stolen and catipulted into the NORTHERN SOUL stable and played to death ace spectrim, four below zero, etc etc......... yawn Geeoooooordie
