Oh it is in tha same league as the Hem 45 Bri, well the 'Fairy Tale' side certainly is in terms of the tight group harmony of the record, perhaps a spin side by side will support and confirm this, I do take your point that Show Stopper/Door Hit You Back is a class double header but the Ninandy release is certainly quality. Platters Not My Girl 100 Club 45 Wanted
Mark Bicknell replied to Mark Bicknell's topic in Record Wants
Fifty quid waiting if anyone can dig one out. Regards - Mark Bicknell -
I'm on my second copy, think I gave £150.00 for it a couple of years ago, has to be worth at least that and yes it's one of those records which people tend to keep hold of I think, a real sleeper of a record both sides yet to have it's full on 15 mins of fame on the scene. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
-
Flip it over which will confirm this is a first rate double header, very much a collectors record was played but not that much. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

You sir are the cheeky bastard I never went I was from down South and far to posh to attend such a shit hole, now if you are refering to that lanky fresh faced teenager from Reading who was lead astray by slightly bigger boys from the North of England then yes he did go for a solid three years from 1976 - 1979 but I never liked the twat personally lol think he ended up DJ'ing all over the place, fat bastard now hardly goes anywhere but from what I understand he still has some very tasty tunes lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Yes Chris I got your PM basically work in progress on this one will be in touch, just trying to work out how we can run such an event based on not charging dealers or admissions???? I take all the points about being able to set up free of charge at a soul do or allnighter but that's not exactly true is it when you have to pay to get in, also trying to think how to do all the promotion, advertising, flyers, pay for venue, cover electric used by dealers for using portable record players, lights etc. perhaps we should have it in a field Des lol Regards - Mark Bicknell. -
Never went I lied lol Mark Bicknell.

Is It Acceptable To Do A Soul Night With Cd's
Mark Bicknell replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
About 15 years ago I used to do a lot of DJ/MC work with local and national Soul Bands which ran side by side with DJ'ing and running Northern nights/allnighters etc. the band nights were more general public type nights and the most important factor was having a good time, I took 45's/Albums and CD's more based on having a large selection of tunes to select from, sometimes I used CD only it depended on the gig really, in the band sitation my job was to supply music before the band took to the stage, during their break and party time after they finished, for about four years on the trot I did a New Years Eve gig in Buxton with a soul band playing to well over 500 people and not once did anyone question me using CD's as to them it did'nt matter, however it would have been a problem if I was unable to play a Sam And Dave or Otis Redding request due to not having it on vinyl oh and before you say something here the next weekend I could be guesting at The 100 Club or some other hardcore Northern gig where Eddie Parker, Jimmy Burns, Brooks Brothers, Cashmeres etc. would feature all from authentic original USA first generation records so it's basically horses for courses, I was asked a few years ago to DJ for a guy at Stockport Football Club a Northern Night, the gig paid well was pitched at the Northern crowd but he only had or put in CD decks, the night was rammed with hardcore soulies and a mixed Motown type crowd, I did the whole night myself and the floor was buzzing, from a music perspective did it matter? did it bollocks again not once did anyone kick off about the CD format being used. Yes of course there is something special about doing the DJ thing with authentic records and I can do both, I think the fundimental point here is that from an entertainment perspective does format really matter? and my opinion is no and certainly not for a charity night as the original poster here was trying to do, the I want to listen to a bit of Motown brigade could'nt care less what format it's played to them on, how rare it is, how much it costs or anything to do with this stamp collector mentality, their only concern is what time does the bar shut? and to have a good night out. Regards - Mark Bicknell. -
We used to live on Hindley Street just off the Manchester Road which was about a ten minute walk from the Birch so when we moved to Ashton around 1991 it soon became a regular Thursday night out for me, DJ'd there a few times which was alway's enjoyable, a good place to talk records with decent people and not far to stagger home after a skinfull. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Black Music Northern Soul, Rare Soul Record Meet
Mark Bicknell replied to Mark Bicknell's topic in Look At Your Box
Des, can I stop you there mate, as I said from the top this is a working idea and nothing more at this stage, I take all your points on board regarding dealer charges, admissions etc. etc. what I will say is if I do go about this it will be run in a professional business like manner, well promoted, correctly advertised and reserched well in advance, room hire, advertising, printing of flyers, leg work etc. etc. all has to be covered but I would not take the piss Des, also a slightly different thing here but do the major weekend events not charge quite high pitch fee's? granted there are huge crowds at some of these events but they still charge the dealers. Regards - Mark Bicknell. -

Yes I was aware of Roger/Sam's event and I'm not for one minute stealing their thunder or nicking the idea lol, but I think location is all important for any record fair or convention, like I said I'm simply testing the water here and seee what happens. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
