  1. Just to add the BBQ allday thing will be going ahead date to be confirmed, will leave the football thing at this time due to being fat lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  2. I don't play football lol but that was my point here to have some fun and a laugh oh and I know I'm a fat bastard so no need to tell me something I don't know lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  3. This is different lol as many of you know football is a passion of mine possibly as much as the soul thing well I do support the best team in the land, trying to put together a Soul Allday BBQ in May/June at Hyde Football Club and had this mad idea to perhaps turn it into a Northern Soul Six A Side knockout, so basically would like to test the water here and invite any of you x footballers to polish your football boots and get some teams together, could be Soul Club, DJ teams etc. ladies welcome too, not only will this be a fantastic day it will I'm sure be a huge laugh, I played in a Dads team for my son a couple of years ago in goal so if I can do it then anyone can and I had not played in thirty years lol so inviting anyone who can put a team together to get in contact with me then we can take it from there, we can all get totally knackered then eat, drink and enjoy a few soul tunes in the social club throughout the day, contact bicknellmark@aol.com or via PM here 0161 330 6267, be good if we could get a 100 Club 6, New Century 6, Lifeline 6 and so on, to see the likes of Mr Dyson, Croasdell, Butch, Banks, Jo Wallace, Chalky etc. etc. in a pair of shorts would alone be worth the admission fee to the dayer lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  4. I think the best thing is simply don't get involved in anything like this, head down and do your own thing the reason I say this is it's been done wrong so many times in the past it's a joke, if you don't know anything about the scene then you don't need or want to know anything least of all some third hand retro load of bollocks. Keep The Faith - Mark Bicknell.
  5. One on Ebay picture cover for just over twenty quid. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  6. Beautiful record, I used to play it when I was DJ'ing on and off but it never really went that big, certainly a record yet to have it's fifteen minutes of fame on the scene, had an issue way back which I had stolen and it took me an age to replace it with a nice little demo, has to be worth a hundred quid at least, sorry have no information on the group.
  7. I think people still wheel and deal at venues but not as much, heard horror stories of major sellers going to the weekend events for example and not selling a single record, fact is you can pretty much satisfy the collecting bug without leaving your house, most major dealers have websites, sales on here alone is a good way to move records, Ebay etc. etc. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  8. Seen a few copies over the years that have been well used and in poor condition which makes you think it must have been a pretty popular record at the original time of release, still have my first Soul Bowl copy which is still nice and clean lol think it was 4 quid. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  9. I did'nt lie, Mark may have cried when he parted with the dosh lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  10. Love the King Demos, Iconic 60's R'n'B funny only picked this up recently for a couple of quid on Ebay. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  11. Not the USA Demo but thought I would post my USA Stocker in the mix, like Tony said the only difference I think is the Demo has promo ident on them like so many of Chess/Checker/Cadet Demos.
  12. Think Mr Potts has taken this thread to another dimension wonderful examples mate, back to basics with me here although one or two or these are pretty tuff to find.
  13. The real deal nights Joan are where the girls don't wear any knickers, sod the circle skirts give me no knickers any day of the week lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  14. Is it not better in terms of how a night flows to get different DJ's playing their prefered style rather than DJ's playing fragmented mixed spots? it can work sometimes but can be very hit and miss. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  15. PM sent. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

  21. One of his best 45's is Money Won't Change You - King 6048, cheap as chips but a great record. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  22. 23. Post away then Daz lol had the Leon Haywood demo, might be rare but you try selling one, Tony Clarke is tuff. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  24. My opinion of soul packs has always been the same unless the dealer selling them was/is totally clueless then 99 times out of a 100 the contents of a soul pack in most instances will be crap having said that record prices in general of the early 70's were in most cases only a few pounds so perhaps it was more common for the odd decent record to find it's way into a soul pack and peoples comments here confirm that also people dealing in records then like John Anderson had access to many titles in quantity for example I remember John telling me a story when we met up in Chicago a few years ago when he had a major hit with all the One-Derful,M-Pac, Mar-V-Lus labels which included about 800 copies of The Ringleaders so the chances are that a few soul packs around that time would have included a copy?, general rule being if it's too good to be true or a bargain then it was possibly due to error on the dealers part luck or the fact being that no one had a crystal ball to see into the future that a Donna Coleman, Dottie And Millie or Tobi Lark etc. would become £200/300/400 rarities thirty years down the line. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  25. Totally with you on this Martyn, not DJ'ing now myself I'm having more fun than I have in a long time buying, selling picking up things I let go, things that passed me by, like you say there is enough out there to keep us all interested in the music, one major thing I have done is let go some of the bigger trophy type records and invested the money in more records basically selling one and buying twenty or thirty bits and bobs, there are some stunning bargains out there if you dig a little, odd ball classic soul demos etc. for pennies, as for finding the next George Blackwell or Dena Barnes I'm not sure but we have forty years of the scenes music to go at so I think all you can really ask for is to gel all the best bits together which from a club perspective should keep the dance floors happy, if not carry on collecting for yourself is exactly what I do now. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
