  5. I've spent allafternoon contacting all Allnighter promoters just letting them know what we are doing in hope to avoid any clashing of dates etc.just seemed the right thing to do, already clashed with Ady Croasdell but he has wished me luck, enough distance between London and the North West but still would rather avoid clashing, I guess with the vast number of events that are currently on it's almost impossible to avoid clashing with something else on the same night. Good feedback already and DJ line up coming together, sadly Phil T is away then but will be booked for a future date, great news John Manship will be doing a very rare North West spot on the first night which should be a blast, full details and flyer to follow very shortly.

  7. Coming up to three years ago in August 'The Soul Club' presented what turned out to be a one off Droylsden reunion Allnighter which was very well attended and despite one or two sound system problems proved to be a great night, sadly for one reason and another follow up sessions never happened, add this to being less involved with the Northern Scene from a personal perspective in recent times due to familyand personal commitments I certainly have taken a back seat, having said that the passion and desire for the music has never left me really and I still dabble in the records and guess that never leaves you does it. I have been given the oppurtunity to host a new allnight session in a perfect cellar club venue and subject to the licence the first Allnighter will happen on Saturday August 18th 2012 (it would appear after checking the events guide here on Soul Source that there is no other Allnighters booked in the area that night) so although there is just a little over a month to promote this I feel it's worth a shot, subject to conformation DJ's approached so far include Cliff Steele, Ted Massey, Ian Cunliffe, Phil T, Nige Brown, Dolly with more to be added to the rosta on rotation and myself to act as warm up DJ for the night as I know my place now not having some of the shall we say trophy records left, it is my intention to host this on a regular monthly basis subject to checking with other promotions to try and avoid clashing when possible, the music policy is simple AUTHENTIC Northern Soul with no agenda other than being played by some of the best people I know, I'm not gonna start spouting this venue will be the biggest and the best or we will be playing underplayed, lesser played, ujnknows or bog standard oldies what I will say is every effort will be made to supply the best possible quality music and the policy will be dictated by the people who attend and support the venue,DJ's will be booked on merrit, collection, entertainment value and most importantly be authentic in everyway. Full details on the venue, location, details will follow early next week subject to conformation of DJ's/venue and everything else being in place, Northern Soul events have been tried and run at this venue and I would like to personally thank the previous promoters for their efforts and commitment, it is with the blessing of the owner of the venue that I have been given the oppurtunity to dip my toe back into running an event, every effort will be made to promote this event in a proper and professional manner, an open invitation will be going out to other Allnighter promoters as a gesture of good faith. 'The Soul Club' Memberships will be valid for the new event but if you require a free membership and full details of the event pleaee send a SAE to The Soul Club, 32 Bakewell Avenue, Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, Ol6 9BP. The Allnighter will run from approx 9pm through to 6am To be confirmed and admission will be £10.00. For further information please feel free to contact me via bicknellmark@aol.com or via PM here, Telephone 0161 330 6267 Text/Mobile 07870610907
  8. I would like to think that a DJ should be booked on merrit, reputation, depth of collection, entertainment value how professional they are etc. rather than being someones mate who runs a gig.
  9. Ok that's told me you know best.
  10. The Millionaires - You've Got To Love Your Baby - Castle - beautiful clean stamped original, hard to find classic oldie - £150.00 includes postage - cheques/postal orders/cash and Pay Pal as a gift to avoid fees - contact bicknellmark@aol.com or via PM here. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  11. No lie as I read your first post I had a feeling you were going to say that, I don't doubt it was you but what a small world this Northern Soul thing is, if it was you it was something that has stuck in my mind and again it was an observation as I would have responded to an actual request rather than a request for a style of record, I do remember I was not rude to you and if it was the Detroit/Chicago night my spot blew the windows out of the place lol
  12. Not a problem with that and the fact he wanted stompers just he was unable to actually give me a few titles or examples of records or chose not to, I would have been happy to play records in the style he requested better still an actual request, I posted this as a light hearted situation that happened to me to add a little humour and to give an example that not all people know that much about the records or was the impression I got that time, now I do not wish to get into a debate or slagging match with you over this but as ever on here often if you have an elephant someone will always have a box to put it in and then things just go round in circles. I don't like records being called sounds but I don't make an issue out of it, again it was a light hearted comment and not really that important.
  13. Funny story and true this, a number of years ago when I was pretty much full on with the DJ thing I was on at The Ritz in Manchester think it may have been the Detroit/Chicago Allnighter, I was stood by the DJ booth shortly before I went on and this chap came up to me and asked if I was DJ'ing I replied yes I'm on next he then asked me if I would play some stompers with that I asked him for some examples rather than rattle off a few titles he said stuff like this and went into this stomping dance routine waving his arms and legs around in front of me which was classic, he knew what style he wanted just did not have a clue of a title, never forget that, made me think how many more of him where out there of people who simply have no idea what the hell is going on lol Mark Bicknell.
  14. Head and shoulders the most constructive post on here pretty much mirrors my thoughts and observations, I also don't really have much involvement with the scene anymore but still dabble in bits and bobs of records and still adore the music when Joy Lovejoy can still send that magical shiver dowm my backbone after 36 years involvement with this music it speaks volumes to me at least and I totally agree with Paul that whatever the style or era of tune it should always be about quality, how you judge quality is another thing and I feel a very personal issue, any record be it an oldie or unknown if it has the power to excite and stimulate emotion and passion from within then in my book it's a good tune as I always thought soul music was a feeling rather than an object, to sing about it you have to have lived it and to listen to it you have to understand it. 17. Oh well must have been an off night as I remember the couple of allnighters I did there being pretty piss poor events,on a more serious note I may have cut people short but can honestly say I was never directly rude to people lol must say you have a good memory I can't remember what I did last week let alone overy twenty five years ago lol
