  1. I've not been to The 100 Club in recent years due to work, family life etc, last time i had the pleasure of DJ'ing there was about 3 years ago, i never missed an allnighter there from day one for about the first 15 years, Ady gave me one of my first Allnighter spots way back which i have to thank him for publically, the venue was like the 'holy grail' to DJ at and i was lucky enough to play a few tunes there many times over the years, this is a very sad day indeed, chin up Ady and if it helps just remember you have run the longest running Northern Soul Allnighter in the history of the scene, i hope there is a turn around on this one. Legendary.....simple as that. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  2. Ian Clark has a copy on his latest list up for Bids/Auction, the list is dated from today 11th Jan and you have two weeks to bid, all bids must be in writing - Ian Clark Music - The Coach House, Cromer Road, North Walsham,Norfolk, NR28 0HA - Telehone 01692 403158 I'm sure Ian won't mind me posting this, some other great tunes up for grabs too. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  3. Super record, should be pretty easy to locate, sadly not selling mine though, what's it's value? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  4. Pete, i take your pont here but with promotion and play as with any tunes there would be a market i'm sure, perhaps Ady knows the best way forward with this possible batch and these were only suggestions anyway, i get pretty much all the new releases re issues from most of the record companies including all the Kent ones so i simply try my best to preview/review them and hope that it at least brings them to the attention of some people, my suggestions were some of the stand out tracks on the recent Money, Dave Hamilton and Mirwood CD's via Ady and Kent, he asked for some feedback and ideas and mine were exactly that...ideas, i think you are correct with the 'newies' only statement but i also think you are under-estimating the quality of some of the tracks and in the current climate, debate and less than positive comments on music poilcy of some venues, attitudes and comments towards DJ's and the lack luster approach to the scene in general that the injection of any and all quality music un issued or otherwise would be welcome by some areas and people on the scene. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  5. First couple of days off yesterday and today in a couple of weeks so given me some spare time to get a couple of Solar shows in the can, Ady i've taken it upon myself to highlight this possible idea which will broadcast on Sunday January 28th so hope you don't mind i reckon the following would make for three excellent 45's which may inspire you to get things moving on this one? Bobby Angelle - 'I'll Be A Soilder Boy' B/W Bettye Swann - 'The Dance Is Over'.....Bring it on Mr Croasdell!!!! Tobi Lark - 'True True Love' B/W maybe 'Sweep It Out In The Shed' or the stunning Additions - Until The End Of Time. Jackie Lee - 'Anything You Want' AKA 'Any Way You Want' B/W 'Trust Me'. I for one would do all i can via the show to promote these for you and i feel the Tobi Lark track would fly out and reach sell out very quickly indeed. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  6. There are so many superb double headers out there, a regular feature of mine on the radio show is 'two for the price of one' or 'i feel a flip coming on', been doing it since i first started doing the show on 'Solar' way back in November 2000, play at least two or three double headers every show, so important to flip records over when you buy them as you never know. Regards - Mark Bicknell www.solarradio.com
  7. Well Pete if i sell enough tapes this time next year i'll be a millionaire....lol Regards - Mark Bicknell
  8. Cassette Tape anyone?.....lol and that was another joke...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  9. Oh and bugger me Glynn you have booked me for your gig....lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  10. Tobi Lark......awesome and maybe the Jackie Lee's Ady...i've put them on sales tapes and they have gone down really well....lol that was a joke by the way, i have played most of the tracks on the show and will continue to do so, all the suggestions so far would make great 45's but Tobi Lark would sell out i'm sure, with a little promotion via here, on radio shows and at the gigs all would prove popular and be worth doing. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  11. Steve, I went to Milan to DJ back end of last year certainly within the last six months with Ryanair from Liverpool, the carry on restrictions had just been lifted so i was a little nervous but carried a 100 count box on no problem, had to go through x-ray and all that, asked me what was in the box etc. but apart from that no problems, i think anything bigger you may have to check them into the hold but otherwise again no problems. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  12. Point taken, no excuses so i'll retract my posts on this topic, very true and very vallied point about tapes, yes i did do a few tapes way back as did many others but seriously it did'nt make it right, so i take your point, i'll delete my comments as it's the right thing to do. Mark Bicknell.
  13. Hi mate, i'm sorry but i have no idea what the problem was if any, there have been some gremlins at work with the show in recent weeks so i really can't comment if this is an on going problem, the show has been put together and broadcast in exactly the same way for the past six years and normally runs without problems, we always check on Sky 0129 and that always sounds fantastic so again i really have no idea what the problem was tonight, it may just be another little gremlin as i say, sorry if it spoiled things a little. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  14. No Ken you might be spot on with your valuation, i just seem to remember seeing a copy listed for sale recently and i'm pretty sure it was around fifty quid??? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  15. Just a little advice on this, make sure you get it with the 'Garden Of Eden' flip.......awesome record, i think 'Circulation' came out twice, £50 to £75.00 should swing it from a dealer perhaps a little more when a few more people realise just how good 'Garden Of Eden' is, very possibly the best record on Dore. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  16. No Kev it was when records were a plenty at a reasonable price mate....lol and yes just after the war....lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  17. About 8 quid for my copy off 'Soul Bowl' a good few years ago now, like already mentioned i've seen this one sell for £400.00. two top notch Detroit sides. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  18. The Festivals - Music - Smash DJ...Great little record. Ike And Tina Turner - Crazy' Bout You Baby - Blue Thumb...Just the dogs this one. Aretha Franklin - I Can't Wait Until I See My Baby's Face - Columbia DJ...Now i have the best three versions....lol Anthony And The Imperials - It's Not The Same - Veep...Awesome tune. Johnny Moore - Thank You Baby - Mercury...Mercy what a fantastic record...8 quid...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  19. I don't think there is a lot between the Romark and Senator copies, some might say the Romark one is harder to find but i reckon it's the other way round, both seem to book at a grand, got mine way back on Senator for £100.00 which was a lot of coin back in the late 80's...lol two fantastic sides, the flip 'All At Once' needs a few spins...awesome tune. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  20. Just bumped this, some more 45's to follow soon, Artistics - Brunswick Album added, fantastic LP. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  21. Bootlegging is bootlegging which ever era they were made, it's been big buisness since the year dot but it still don't make it right does it?, if you don't like this current batch then simply don't subscribe to them it's that simple. Ebay won't do anything about it so that's a waste of time, so basically ignore the listings like this and keep your collecting real and authentic, seems to me this person feels he's doing nothing wrong, sending messages seems to make no difference at all and he will continue to basically do what he likes, again don't subscribe to this and perhaps in time he will run out of customers, it amazes me why anyone would want to own such things...well you can't actually call them records can you? when the tracks are mainly available on CD or a re issue format or are not that hard to locate on the original 45's. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  22. I thinks our heads are gonna hurt in a few hours time, no soul nights for us, just several bottles of fizzy stuff, the Soul Shack followed by Jools Holland....just like to wish everyone a very happy and soulful new year....must go several more bottles to get through best we do coz Wellar and Winehouse are just destroying 'Heard It Through The Grapevine' as Mrs Bicknell once said 'There's nothing quite like soul music...it's a feeling!!!!! Mark & Jacqui Bicknell - Mr And Mrs Shard.
