  1. Ok James. Regards - Mark Bicknell. Ps - Does 'The Continental Show Stoppers' - I'm Not Too Young - White Demo qualify as a 'Hot Box' record???? going in box two whatever and thats pretty darn hot anyway....lol
  2. James, i thought 'Daddy's' comments were pretty good and i sent him a PM and told him so, i think we all have the scene's best interest at heart and we do what we do the best way we can mostly with a passion, perhaps this thread is now getting a little personal as i suspect you and Daddy know each other???? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  3. Oh dear, best we forget that one then Pete..stick with your ironing...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  4. Pete, I never done anything like this myself but i'm sure i've read somewhere that two pieces of glass and natural sunlight could correct a warp i.e. place the 45 between the two pieces of glass and secure, place glass in direct sunlight (difficult i know in this country...lol) add weight to the glass and the warp may correct???? worth a try if you feel the need i guess. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  5. Bit slow there Roger...lol your reply should have been.....sorry it's gone! Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  6. More of a level playing field then Roger as we all had the same chance of getting through first....lol just on the off chance have you still got 'The Servicemen' mate for twenty quid....lol i know i'm twenty odd years too late but you never know or are you gonna utter those words???? Super thread mate. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  7. Twenty Quid for Sam Williams far too much....lol this certainly puts things into perspective and proves if we knew then what we know now etc. etc. i remember getting these lists at the time but the prices were relative to what you were earning at the time, i remember coming out of Stafford one day with Sam Fletcher £12.00, Sam Dees £8.00, Betty Wilson £8.00 infact a nice little bunch of tunes for a hundred quid or less the lot. Fantastic thread by the way........ remember phoning 'Soul Bowl' first thing when the list arrived and it was constantly engaged and when you finally got through John would utter those words....sorry it's gone! happy days...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  8. James, thanks for the honest reply mate, firstly regarding my self impossed exile as a club DJ well this is partly out of choice and part circumstance which i'm not prepared to comment on in a public forum, just note i'm still out there but not as much, basically i'm hear and willing to do most gigs offered. I still think the percentage of quality DJ's is higher than you suggest, but i do agree 100% with your more deck time comment, the longer set is a much better deal. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  9. I know how you feel mate, it's happened to me a couple of times over the years, about ten or tweleve years ago i had Ollie Jackson - Wipe Away The Teardrops, Velvet Satins Demo, Dickie Wonder - Nobody Knows, Hestitations - Built That Way Demo, Intros - Stop Look And Listen and several others all go on the same night from a local soul night, never found out who took them, still upsets me to this day, not the fact that the records have gone more the trust thing as if someone shows interest in a record whos a bit skint then i'll give them the bloody thing and settle later kind of deal and to think that there are people out there on this scene that can steal is just mindblowing, i do hope you trace the records or someone out there has some information, however i hate to have to say it but don't hold your breath, just amazes me how someone can get any satisfaction or pleasure from playing a stolen record...may they have loads of bad luck for their actions. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  10. James, i'm sorry mate but i have to say this, i take your very constructive points but you seem to construct and base your comments in such a way that outside of the people you mention Ady, Butch, Tim etc. by the very nature of your statistics you seem to undermine pretty much everyone else who DJ's outside of the 10% sorry 1%, or that's how it seems to me, of course the people you mention are head and shoulders above many but does this mean that some of us should not be DJ'ing? seems to me that you are happy to sport the corner for the select few and dismiss others who in your eyes are not top of the pile or moovers and shakers, spare a thought for the many good jobbing DJ's out there who may not have the million pound collections but do have some depth to their collections, now i'm not gonna name names or bring anyone else into my reply here but i can use myself as an example, although i choose not to DJ as much i feel i can still contribute to a night, have a depth of collection and the experence to judge and read a dancefloor, i like to think that i get the odd booking on merrit, reputation, quality of records, entertainment value etc. i do not get asked because i'm someones best mate who runs a gig although i do take your point James on this one as it does happen but not in my case. Yes the best records need to be played by the best DJ's but i think the number of DJ's able to do this is slightly higher than your percentages James. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  11. James, see you in Sunderland mate, let's bring it on...lol Mark Bicknell.
  12. No Barry you are not alone on this thought at all. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  13. Ok i understand this now, thank you. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  14. So am i right in thinking that this is only about new additions to the collection then? or are we talking 'I WISH I COULD HAVE THAT RECORD'??? because if it's about a wish list then it makes no sense as it's not a real situation is it? i'm not having a go or a dig Simon just trying to work this one out so i can apply this method...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  15. As with Mr Rimmer i had no idea what the 'Hot Box' term was but having read the thread fully i now understand this concept, can you not 'Hot Box' from your collection if you have one?? as Russ said with depth of collection can you not do this?? by regular box rotation, adding new additions and so on, i try to do this depending on the gig, music style and personal mood, i guess this can work if you have a reasonable collection, not everyone holds 2 or 3 thousand records but i'm sure with a good base collection you could rotate and be fresh on a regular basis, it's nice to dig a little deeper and maybe sometimes leave the 'big hitters' at home and try something else. Good thread this by the way. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  16. Stunning tune Kirsty..................awesome! Regards - Mark Bicknell. Stunning red dress by the way...lol
  17. Has to be mid hundreds now i would think????? personally i would never sell mine as i also have 'Anytime' B/W 'Sometimes I Wonder' and the really hard 'Miss Heartbreaker' on Mir-A-Don (without the group name) so i would have to split the three if i sold sorry, i'm sure with a little hunting you will turn 'Another Day' up, i rate it at around £300.00 but as ever i bet i'm way off with the value.....awesome tuneage. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  18. Superb tuneage, i paid a little less than £150.00 for mine.......cheers Kim! a little bit back. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  19. Done and dusted Eddie...lol 'Pied Piper' Soul Shack special inspired by your wonderful efforts will be broadcast Easter Sunday April 8th.....Note Mr Moore will also be doing the competition to win the two extra copies you sent on that show...again just about the best magazine of it's kind out there...simply about the music which is all that matters really...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  20. Just got my preview/review copy and extra two copies (cheers Dave) to do a competition on the show over the next few weeks, have to say i got in from work tonight at 7.20pm and have just put this superb third issue down now 10.00pm,well what can i say awesome simply awesome read, Eddie's Pied Piper item is the 'dogs nuts' stunning read, inspired me to link the magazine review/preview plug with a Pied Piper Productions special on the show coming real soon, all in all this is a soul fans must read publication, subscribe today no messing, for record people this is by far the best read of it's kind out there....fantastic. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  21. Everyone...take a few minutes out like i just did, go and put a couple of your favorite tunes on and then come back on here and explain why we all do this? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  22. Should make us proud Baz to be part of something that we all seem to care about and hold in such high reguard, despite what we all say sometimes and how we feel it's true to say that we are all here on this scene for life, infact it is perhaps life...lol bit deep this for me and i've pulled a sicky today from work to guess what........???? get myself and records ready for a banging night out in Grimsby on Saturday...infact tunes on now...it don't get much better than 'The Four Tracks' and a coffee....lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  23. Nail on head there Rod, joking apart why are most of us on this scene? the records plain and simple, yes it's a social scene as well but the fundimental single reason we are all involved is because the music took hold of us and that was it, now if new, younger of whatever other people experience that feeling then they will follow. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  24. Never seen so many people looking at one thread 28 and counting....pitty some of the threads about the records and music don't get so much attention...funny that...lol Mark Bicknell.
