Tootsie Rollers, Mikki Farrow, Ej &echoes, major Harris
Mark Bicknell replied to Rob Moss's topic in Record Sales
I've not seen the E.J. & Echoes for sale in a few years, blinding record infact you see more 'Tempos' for sale on Diamond Jim than this one and thats hard to find, funny i've just put this in my box to take to Wellingborough on Saturday...small world...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell. -
Sorry mate.....it's crap really totally overated...lol will that do, now off to Pilsley to play it...lol. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
-
Let's hope so then more people can get hold of a decent tune...lol and i'm not talking it down as i think it's the best version..time will tell if it turns up? possibly more issues will surface than the demo, like i said it's been around years and simply having it's day on the scene now like so many records deserve. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
-
Now there's a record.....top tuneage, have a USA copy but sadly not for sale, you should find this pretty quickly...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.

I think 'The Continental Showstoppers' have the edge over 'Karen Striblin's' version, 'Jackey Beaver's' version is awesome and then there's 'The Cameros'' which is super rare of course, the CS version just seems to hit the spot with the dance floor, fantastic vocal and very right for now, it may have been an easy tune to locate a bit back but i suspect most of those copies available then are now all tucked away in collections and that's exactly where they will stay as demand seems to be pretty big on this 45.

When there is N/A next to a title on JM's normally means its gone/out of stock or not available, i recently picked a white demo up and thought i was doing really well at £150.00, although this record has been around years and i suspect was originally played at 'Blackpool Mecca' or that kind of venue way back this is very much a current tune and is yet to go really big so in the scheme of things £125.00 to £150.00 and perhaps more?? is a fair reasonable price to pay as i reckon supply is soon gonna over shadow demand on this stunning version, this record is a monster in the making. Good luck with finding this but it took me a good six months to find one and i did put a request 'want' on here. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
-
No get down there as soon as possible fantastic album. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

My two main DJ boxes are currently in a right 'two and eight' at present after recently doing the final night at 'The Frobisher' which was a Chicago special...the following are the first fifteen at the front of the box currently next to my turntable...so this is a genuine fifteen not constructed lol The Wooden Nickles - Nobody But You - Omen DJ Buster And Eddie - Can't Be Still - Class Continental Showstoppers - "Not Too Young" - Seventy Seven DJ The Magicians - Is It All Gone? - Villa T.J. Next they will be getting a mobile 'Fish and Chip' van and going on tour....Casino Cafe Roadshow...lol whatever next or has that already been done.....don't you just love nostalgia? Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Bobby James wrote 'I Really Love You' (i mentioned this above) under his real name Robert Newsome so as far as the Karol and Erica records go Bobby James and Robert Newsome are one of the same, i also noticed the credit on The Vontastics record but i never asked him at the time so i can't say for sure or confirm if it's the same person or if he had any connections with the group, very possible as they were Chicago based but again i'm not sure. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

I think the problem here with this if there is one is basically something like this is so far removed from what most of us are involved with this scene for i.e. the music, to be perfectly honest little else interests me outside of that, it's totally naff if you ask me but at the end of the day very few people shopping in Wigan on a Saturday afternoon are going to worry as if they can get a nice cup of tea there and a sit down for ten minutes i feel the theme or connection with the Northern scene won't even cross their minds nor will they care. As with all the other naff tack related to N Soul, well 'Keep The Faith' and the tack as they deserve it, give me a tune i don't know, a track that floats my boat anytime, far better to contribute on today's scene, have passion for the real thing that matters again i.e. the music and if it's all the same i make a pretty darn good cup of tea so i'll stick to a home brew on this one. The bottom line is it's a cafe in a shopping centre and really has nothing to do with the scene today, it's not a venue, a record, a DJ or a place to celebrate the music it's a cafe in Wigan, a bloody cafe you know tea, coffee, scabby over priced cakes etc. it's not a sweaty venue it's a cafe so are we not going a little overboard here on our reaction to this...i'm just waiting for someone to do a 'cafe lookback' in the venue section...quality of tea perhaps, menu, prices.....come on it's a cafe...who cares...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell Ps Jacqui wants to go shopping in Wigan Saturday, can't wait full report to follow...now what to wear?????

Bobby's version is good but Mr Burns has the edge i think, also writting credits are Robert Newsome which is actually Bobby James one of the same which would suggest he recorded it first before Jimmy, i seem to remember he told me that when we met also neither Bobby or Jimmy had any knowledge of 'Brand New Faces' which is aweful anyway. And yes Ted a rare record which this auction final price reflects incredible...wish i could have kept it, still got Jimmy's Erica though...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
-
No Ted...the story goes i met him in Chicago way back early 90's he had one cracked copy stuck on a piece of cardboard mounted on his wall which he offered me i declined and said it was his and really i could not take it off him, we kept in touch when i got home and in between somebody somewhere UK based in conversation to a third party mentioned how rare and indemand the record was in the UK which filted back to Bobby plus i told him how rare it was and popular in the UK when we met so he knew he was in for a few dollars, i get a phone call from Bobby sometime after and he had found a mint copy but wanted as much as he could get for it, he sent it to me and at the time i did'nt have the cash at hand so i offered it to Tim and sent all the money to Bobby, silly bastard and honest bugger i am i just wanted to do the best for him as he was a really nice guy, so i don't regret selling it as i did the guy a favour as he was not a rich man, lost contact with him a bit back but still have a contact somewhere so i might just look him up...lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
-
£297.00 for Barbara Carr suprised me always rated this record and often play it out and about but i think i gave about £30.00 for mine so a big leap in value on this one or is it just a little too much? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
-
Just thinking that myself Ted, and to think i had the Bobby James a few years back and thought i was doing well when i sold it for £650.00 to Tim of Tod..oh well Regards - Mark Bicknell.
-
I've managed to set up similar deals in Stoke, Yate, Manchester, Cleethorpes, Stafford and a prime location on 99 Oxford Street closest i could get sorry, so Russ looking for Beverage Managers if you fancy a gig....lol On a more serious note as Steve M said it's only a Cafe nothing more so perhaps on reflection it's not that important. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
-
Top tune, as Paul said ace flip 'Sometimes I Wonder', had this one for years, goes well as a set with 'Another Day' and 'Miss Heartbreaker' (without group name on credits) if this is £450.00 how much for the Mir-A-Don set??????lol brilliant record which i'm sure you will sell without any real problem, super good and super rare. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
