  4. Still got my U/A USA demo, had it most of my Northern Soul journey, had the Shrine thing years ago which went but 'The Drifter' towers over that as does 'It's A Sad Thing' which I also still hold in my collection, 'The Drifter' as soon as it starts just takes me to another place, there are many good records which do this but there are few that really nail the mood and the way we sometimes feel, listen to the words, the emotion, the passion, pain it's one of THE greatest performances of all time on vinyl because that's what is is a performance, it's been said before that to sing about pain and heartache you must have lived it first hand and Ray Pollard judging by this stunning record most certainly did or put it another way there are Soul singers who claim to be and there are singers who simply are pure Soul genius. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  5. You go easy lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  6. Yeh she's stood about four feet away from me, I was gonna state that quote myself but it's Jacqui's not mine lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.

  8. Bugger me Davie we actually agree on something there's a first lol on a serious note your final comment is pretty much the same for me these day's. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  9. Can relate to this a little, sometimes find myself for no reason in the middle of watching television or doing something blurting out some nonsense to my wife about something to do with a record or the scene lol don't get me wrong I can and do other things non soul related but love the tuneage...tut tut fancy wiping one of his records on your sleeve disgrace lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  10. Still with you then Phil, I guess the music is King then? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  11. Interested to know if people on the rare soul scene are full on 365 days a year 24/7 when I say that I mean do you play records every day? is the scene and the music constantly in your thoughts? does it tend to take a front seat in your every day lives? although I don't attend that many venues these day's the music, records etc. is alway's there, it's like no matter how hard you try to do other things and interests the Northern thing never let's go, it's been said before that it get's in your blood, becomes very obsessive which I feel that people become very protective of it resulting in the politics, heated debates etc. I reckon we are all on this scene for life, the passion and love for the music has to be with us all forever....... nothing quite like it is there? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  12. Third time lucky I hope on this want please, Raving Mads - Where Is Love - Ravin, nice clean copy please, if you can help please contact bicknellmark@aol.com or PM here, there must be someone out there with a copy to sell lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  13. Mossy, I take your point about bad looking records that play ok etc. my original point was aimed at records which sound and play badly and will not improve no matter how much you clean or fiddle with them, again it matters very little how rare a record is if it's fcuked it's worthless and not worth owing if you can't play it. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  14. Bugger me was that really 21 years ago, remember the whole day like it was yesterday, remember Phil's front room being decorated, new carpets the works finished minutes before filming started and I'm sure Phil won't mind me saying but the rest of the house was a little messy lol, everyone looks so young and did'nt the gig look exciting? whatever happened to Lucy Pilkington? Regards - Mark Bicknell.

The trouble is now this is gonna run and run even after the auction, now there will be an inquest on here as some people will want to know who actually won the record and won't rest until they know, makes no difference to me who bought it, that should be private between JM and the buyer and should remain so, time to perhaps let this one pass now, move on instead of the third degree all the time, good luck to Kenny, good luck to JM and good luck to the buyer who have all basically been involved in an iconic transaction that will never be passed on the soul scene. 19. Hi mate, still in litigation with pay pal so nothing sorted as yet, seems their customer trust and service is well below par, not going to let it go though I can't, will keep you posted. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  20. Said it before so I'll say it again pretty close to perfection Northern wise has to be George Blackwell - Can't Lose My Head - Smoke, has it all for me, perfect backbeat, stunning lead vocal as he sings from his boots, timeless classic, rare and pretty much sums up what quality rare soul is all about, of course there are many more up there with this but for me GB shades it everytime. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  21. I was also told this Mace way back oh and the same for Hayes Cotton often remarks like this come from people who want their cake and eat it to, don't like R'n'B unless it's the big ticket variety then it's move the goal posts time and it's Northern lol stamp collectors the lot of em' lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  22. Personal use or DJ use for me records have to be at the very least VG+ and I'm talking UK VG+ and not what the Americans often call VG+ when the records are far from that grading, records are for playing not looking at the pretty paper bit in the middle as I've said throughout this thread I can not see the point in owning records which are unplayable it does not make any sense to me having for the having sake. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
