Something I've always done Kev, used to feature the old 'Two For The Price Of One' ethic on my radio shows for Solar and Starpoint over the years and it became a regular feature. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  2. I started back in 1976 and finished in 2009 going to gigs that is not collecting tunes some 33 years enough for anyone I think lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  3. Observation, book due out and already being slagged off, bit like the film and numerous other subjects, topics and threads, as I've said before if you don't like something then don't subscibe to it, a trait of this scene it would seem is everyone likes to be a face, everyone likes to have an opinion and have little or no thought for other peoples feelings, glad I'm out of it to be honest, pontificating bollocks on the whole. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  4. Carolyn Cooke - I Don't Mind - RCA Demo, nice clean conditiion, few light scuffs plays nice and clean - £65.00 includes postage, cheque, cash, postal orders, pay pal contact bicknellmark@aol.com or PM here. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  5. Banks charge anything from £25.00 to £37.50 for a bounced cheque so it seems the problem is getting worse for the promoters on this, ten bounced cheques for example could put another £250.00 plus on the problem and so on, what I can't understand is where has the money gone? was it used to promote the gig? advance tickets sales are all well and good but seperate money should be used for running expences, when I was involved in bringing Bettye Lavette over to perform at The Winter Gardens in Blackpool several years ago myself, Rolly and Carl of The Neighbourhood Soul Club each put £1,000.00 each in a fund to cover the promotion, air fairs, hotels, venue hire etc. advance tickets were sold but the cash generated from ticket sales was kept seperate until contracts were signed, work permits in place etc. you can not and should not promote a major event like this without working money upfront, I'm not knocking the promoters here as they tried to put on a unique event, perhaps it would have been better to explain that the money had been spent and that refunds would be paid as soon as they can cover it, they are in an even bigger hole now issuing rubber cheques not to mention their reputation is now in tatters. I hope there is a resolution to all this for people who purchased advance tickets in good faith, all right coming on here saying we can bring Little Anthony over to perform and actually coming through with it is a big difference, questions were raised and asked before the event but ego I guess got in the way now it's a mess. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

  11. Still got my U/A USA demo, had it most of my Northern Soul journey, had the Shrine thing years ago which went but 'The Drifter' towers over that as does 'It's A Sad Thing' which I also still hold in my collection, 'The Drifter' as soon as it starts just takes me to another place, there are many good records which do this but there are few that really nail the mood and the way we sometimes feel, listen to the words, the emotion, the passion, pain it's one of THE greatest performances of all time on vinyl because that's what is is a performance, it's been said before that to sing about pain and heartache you must have lived it first hand and Ray Pollard judging by this stunning record most certainly did or put it another way there are Soul singers who claim to be and there are singers who simply are pure Soul genius. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  12. Now that's funny lol

  17. Can relate to this a little, sometimes find myself for no reason in the middle of watching television or doing something blurting out some nonsense to my wife about something to do with a record or the scene lol don't get me wrong I can and do other things non soul related but love the tuneage...tut tut fancy wiping one of his records on your sleeve disgrace lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  18. Still with you then Phil, I guess the music is King then? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  19. Interested to know if people on the rare soul scene are full on 365 days a year 24/7 when I say that I mean do you play records every day? is the scene and the music constantly in your thoughts? does it tend to take a front seat in your every day lives? although I don't attend that many venues these day's the music, records etc. is alway's there, it's like no matter how hard you try to do other things and interests the Northern thing never let's go, it's been said before that it get's in your blood, becomes very obsessive which I feel that people become very protective of it resulting in the politics, heated debates etc. I reckon we are all on this scene for life, the passion and love for the music has to be with us all forever....... nothing quite like it is there? Regards - Mark Bicknell.

  21. Mossy, I take your point about bad looking records that play ok etc. my original point was aimed at records which sound and play badly and will not improve no matter how much you clean or fiddle with them, again it matters very little how rare a record is if it's fcuked it's worthless and not worth owing if you can't play it. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  22. Bugger me was that really 21 years ago, remember the whole day like it was yesterday, remember Phil's front room being decorated, new carpets the works finished minutes before filming started and I'm sure Phil won't mind me saying but the rest of the house was a little messy lol, everyone looks so young and did'nt the gig look exciting? whatever happened to Lucy Pilkington? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
