  1. My idea of an auction....any auction....is that the following two scenarios apply: 1. The seller wants the money quickly, and is prepared to accept a lower price than the 'going rate'. 2. The item is so rare, or in demand, the seller cannot put a fixed price on it, goes to auction and expects a higher price than the 'going rate' JM auctions of late seem to expect a higher sale price than the 'going rate' for everything. He would, he's on a commission! Ed
  2. Good luck. Hope it runs smoothly and attendees can just have a great time... After all, its all in a good cause! Its Tenerifes loss, thats for sure. Ed

  6. I feel so privileged to have been able to buy many of the big ticket items for under £30 back in the day, and was genuinely sad when the "crash" came in the early 80s when they dropped even further. Some serious collections went for peanuts. Who would have thought such a comeback would have gradually unfolded! I guess its " better to have owned and sold, than never owned at all" so to speak. The positive I take from all these incredible sales prices is that regardless of anything else, the absolute fanaticism of owning rare vinyl, lives on. Ed
  7. Todays £3 special...might be tomorrow's in demand big ticket tune! Realistically though, unless you dj for a living..or are a trader, who'd own any record (for long) they don't like? There's also the 'old' factor, where a fiver is still a lot of money, whereas for the youngsters its progressed to a fifty:) How much? I hear you cry. Ed
  8. You can throw a stone from Detroit and it land in Canada... Were Canadian motown releases actually pressed in Canada? Ed
  9. Is that true about his brother Jimmy passing the week before? So sad. Nice live clip here. Ed
  10. Often been quoted on here that an original top 500 collection is now a cool million pounds...if bought individually at a top rate etc. Who wouldn't want to own it... Just a scary thought for djs I guess who are genuinely walking about with a seriously valuable commodity! I remember getting jumped outside the casino one night by fellow soulies, not punks, for the record box I had with me. Luckily they failed....and a lot of records then got my Monica scratched into the run out grooves as a consequence! Ed
  11. 125 x $2900 singles lugged about... Conservatively speaking a quarter of a million pound notes worth. I'd certainly look at having a few groupies with you if your in the rare soul dj circuit! Ed
  12. Wow, what an amazing contrast ! Hard to believe its the same song. First heard the servicemen version around 77 at Wakefield Unity and proceeded to aquire the one pound pressing straight away! Actually never heard ...need a helping hand...out for years and years later. Ed
  13. I'm not worried? Bought for about £20 and sold for £40...never flipped it over. The folly of youth. Ed
  14. Ian Levine used the word STRANGE. Probably the best description of the world of Northern Soul, without insulting different tastes, so to say. Some records you just like, with no logical reason. Not a fan myself of this particular tune, but I can live with Wombat and Travis Wamack. Ed
  15. First heard of Syl via the 70s soul bowl soul packs. Picked this out straight away and was blown away by the energy and vocal skill. RIP Sir. Your contribution to our world will always be cherished. Ed
  16. Probably straight after Paul Anka When we get there, to keep up the momentum:) Ed
  17. Always thought this was ahead of its time musically..and lyrically a reflection of the awful times for some. Ed
  18. Ton of dynamite at the mecca...footsee at the casino....ouch. The pain gets a little deeper...I guess...Nice white label. Ed
  19. Well you did ask... Concert. Lady GaGa. Las Vegas. For a soul artist....M people and George Bad Benson had the crowd mesmerised all concert. Unique, one off song performed live, Alexander Patten, LA2004. Ed
  20. Some heavy duty soul in that mix! Ed
  21. Use to love the stepping stones on the Ogmore River as a youngster... Ed
  22. Mad dog and the pups... Linda Jones.. Al Perking... Unifics Temprees Continental 4 Tim Tam...noooooo. Parliments... Wally Cox Terrible Tom Eddie Foster You lucky people who lived to see these ..and more...acts live, back in the day. Priceless. Ed
