  1. The TREX is impressive at the airport. Saw this advertised yonks ago.. Ed
  2. Indeed, an inspirational story of a boy climbing the steps of greatness.
  3. I think it's safe to assume that there are more collectors today than there has ever been. Unless dealers are 'hogging ' vinyl to create rarity of course! Like many others, I wish I had kept hold of my records....but then again, its better they get played to a crowd than sitting on a shelf. Ed
  4. White as the driven snow.
  5. And you can't get more blue eyes than this.. Get me a San Miguel..
  6. The boy needs proof! Google/discogs/youtube/wikpedia etc
  7. At the later Winter Garden all dayers, when 2 rooms where created, for sure it was like going into a different world when switching rooms. Unthinkable that a record would see airtime in both rooms. In some ways it's a good thing that the very best records can transcend from one to the other. Ed
  8. Over the years then, what would you say the % has been of the same records played in both rooms? I always thought the point was a record had to be played extensively in the modern room before it descends into the main stream? Obviously they are all great records, just looking for some clarification pointers. Ed
  9. The irony of playing the nights at a modern event! Must be classed as a oldie by then? Ed
  10. So this was played at the Twisted Wheel? Fantastic... Got it on a best of blues cd around 2000 and always wondered if it ever cut it at a 60s soul club. Ed
  11. First went to the YMCA? Got turned away, and ended up on Donny station next to Necko in the waiting room. Happy days! Ed
  12. Search away.. 60 pages of content, but if you really want to know, it's in there. Or ring JM and ask! Ed
  13. I listened to both sides of the Thomas Bailey record. Brand new to me. Surely it was not bought for that much money because its going to fill a Northern Soul dance floor? I'll get the beer in whilst this is on:) Ed
  14. Probably a one 'try' wonder. If it was by a popular artist, it very likely it would have been guessed by now. Using half a dozen title combinations in YouTube etc would throw the song up, even if by another artist. My guess is it is an lp track on a compilation, probably some kind of free charity sample sent to John. The Free Angela LP had contributions from various artists. For the Northern Soul lover, only two or three tracks would have been played more than once. John Peel did make some play lists that accompanied his shows, but I think they started later than this release. He had the power to play whatever he wanted. If I ever tuned into his show, it was usually only for a couple of tracks, because most were completely off the wall. If I would have found this track as a b side for example, I would have never played it twice. Different strokes for different folks! However as you say, somebody will reveal the tracks identity sooner or later. Ed
  15. Apart from your play list, what were the other big tunes at the attic? Did any USA live acts ever play there? It was all Northern Soul at the Baileys all nighters in the 70s.. Top nightclub over the years. Ed
  16. Dave Hamilton and staff must have been amazing. Credit where credits due! Ed
  17. Did Howard Tate's half a man also come out on Verve? Always in the 50 pence pile. Although a catchy tune, never heard it played out though. Ed
  18. As a 16 year old lad, fishing one Sunday, and listening to his Sunday show, he definitely played Margaret Mandolph SB. I was shocked as it was a fairly big tune at the Cleethorpes all dayers at the time. Must have been an original somebody loaned him. I always remember him also playing a band called Alien Sex Fiend. I never got around to buying their album! Ed
  19. Booked the four dayer...................Meeting the Tomangoes? If they sing IRLY live it will be amazing;) BUT Anybody finding flights expensive like we did? Just used: Maddie DannTravel and Aftersales ConsultantTelephone +44 (0) 1622 608265maddied@medwayleisuretravel.co.uk | www.medwayleisuretravel.co.uk Got 2 decent Manchester to Detroit tickets for just over a £1000 total. Expedia etc quoting £1800 and up. Ed
  20. The Trends? Must be having a senior moment:) Here is the best version...............
  21. I read something about some young guy (IL) with all the tunes loaning them to some old guy (LC) which made the old guy look fantastic? The Twisted Wheel, back in the day? As the Trends sang..time changes things. Ed
  22. Quote: but to be honest there is no credability anymore as bootlegs being played by named dj,s ________________________ I must admit I had no idea this was happening. The named djs who are doing this and are exposed for doing know that the very thing they want most : 'respect' Will surely elude them. Ed
  23. Ummm Rare and brilliant is better than rare or brilliant. For some rare is still better than brilliant. Still think and hope that the majority like brilliant above rare.... Ovo is a pre-requiste though to stand any chance, even if it's all £20 tunes. Its an uphill climb to the point where the DJ is telling the dancers what to dance to as opposed to the dancers telling the DJ what to play. Breaking a new tune must be the hardest dj task unless it's an instant hit. Good luck to the topic starter in any case. Take the leap of faith! Ed
  24. The question did not specify the genre of music, so therefore some aforementioned arguments might not apply. The common denominator is to get a chance to get behind the decks. Then you have to keep the dance floor full. Stating what every record is to a young crowd will be appreciated. To an old crowd, unless it's super rare, or unknown, may not work as they may think you are disrespecting their knowledge. Try events like soul in the sun, where anybody can have a go, and with mp3 tracks, so it more about knowledge than ownership. Back in the day, a weeks wages of £30 would get you a Bernice Williams or Virginia Wolves etc. I doubt today any big tune will cost less than two weeks wages for an under 25 year old. Having said that cheap records like the bottle, try a little harder, I can take care of myself will always get a few on the floor. Study the top djs and pick out the cheapies they play that fill the floor, pick up a copy, and copy them! Don't play boots at a real vinyl venue or you will get slaughtered! Ed
  25. So the 30 odd year old Toba guy is dumped by the girl and is thinking about suicide, and she says take your time and think it over? A real uplifting tune just right for John Peel, who always played oddities, even Margaret Mandolph SB one Sunday afternoon. Not my cup of tea unfortunately. Ed
