  1. On Captain of my ship...clearly states 1976 and I first heard it at Wakefield unity in 1977 if memory serves me well.. So the label was known. All my life is less clear to me. 76 or 78 ? It's a good record but surely its the perceived rarity that's driving the value this high. Ed
  2. Quite possibly the year of release and not the year of first real play in the mainstream. Hard to imagine now how stuff like this was not picked up in that 75 to 80 period, which did get picked up from 80 to 85! Better late than never I guess. Ed
  3. A Soul Sam anthem from 76?...I must have missed that COMPLETELY. Was it covered up? Same label as 7th wonder COMS...? That would have been about 77 or 78. I remember SS dabbling in the "modern sounds" more at Snaith, but that was later. Ed
  4. I wonder how many tunes are now over the 5 grand mark? Scary to think a 200 box of them is a million quid... OVO djing.....you must be joking unless it's from inside a secure booth and there's lots of security around! Ed
  5. Amazing what you can do with a great riff...I'll have to think this over twice:) Good luck. Ed
  6. Here's a an interesting read about some of this.... Ed https://www.last.fm/music/Wigans+Ovation/+wiki
  7. Plenty of bands imitate the motown sound.. Must be a market for the Northern Sound...unless they just do it for fun. Harmless in my opinion, but I would not pay to see it. Ed
  8. Can't see it ever changing. Common sense was never high up the agenda in TSWONS. Ed
  9. If DJ 2 was miffed because DJ 1 "rolled their eyes" when they played the second batch slightly different colour version of a newly released tune..... I'm glad I stopped looking at the turntables 44 years ago, and so could be blissfully ignorant of what label was being played. Then again....one-upmanship is a corner stone of Northern Soul collecting, and unlikely to change anytime soon. Ed
  10. A great bank holiday mix, thanks. Love that Oscar Perry! Ed
  11. Sad news. Unique voice. Where there's a will having a comeback of late. Ed
  12. Not defending it, but understand it. Oddly enough though, there may be strict lines drawn on what label format needs to be played to remain in the upper enchelance of ovo dj circles...but the boundaries of what's in the grooves is often less "policed" A crap tune is still a crap tune, even if it's rare as hens teeth and into 5 digit values! Ed
  13. Ohio players Towanda Barnes Ohio players featuring Towanda Barnes All the same? Is a plot thickening? Ed
  14. This would make a great "best version thread" 4 very different attempts and all good. HH and NA new to me. Any more versions out there?? Ed
  15. Great patter. All discs are life changing, and must have status! Wish I'd got a box full of tunes worth ten grand, and watch him sell them for twenty grand. Ed
  16. Sam Williams is a really top sound but I must admit of late the ohio players take has my preference. Not sure what that fetches these days? Ed
  17. In Yorkshire, they'd never give a perfectly good utencil away.... Ed
  18. Got to say.. MR Roberts has pulled off some great surprises...imagine being on that bus. Once again, just glad an artist experienced the adulation from us lot they deserved. Ed
  19. I don't think it but I hope it is..and she gets some royalties and recognition. Let be fair, this is a crown jewel tune. Ed
  20. Not sure if anybody actually asked Chris Clark if it was her or not, but she has been doing the weekend events on a regular basis over the last few years. Ed
  21. This is top drawer soul music. Thanks for posting. Ed
