Crazy to me....but there is some mileage in high prices give a sense of high quality. Items are bought because it impresses other what you paid for it. I have had advice before that the reason something I'm selling is not selling is because its priced to low! Nuts Ed

My apology... Sheffield steeleys. Ed

Interesting point... First time I saw "2 rooms" apart from Wigan main and m's... Cleethorpes with the jazz funk...other side of midnight malarkey. Before Clifton Hall. Then Sheffield Baileys Xmas do...about same time as Clifton Hall....upstairs small room, NS, downstairs big room jazz funk AND sugar Hill gang! Where did it all go seperate ways? Having said all that...anything goes...nightmare. Ed

My memory is shocking. Absolutely cannot remember the combinations from then but the determinations as clear as day. Remember the admirations being covered up and saying the the dj...this sounds like the admirations and him telling me to piss off for guessing that! Of course the soul nights preceeded the alnighters for many years before. Ed

What an incredible and varied career. R I P sir. Always liked this version of his four tops song. Mecca sound I think. Ed

I'd agree with Andy. Big budget pavillion sold out more often than not. Doubt the promoter gets a cut from beer or catering sales. Perhaps somebody knows different? A few pubs benefit from the pub crawl to the venue, with some offering background music and others a dj. Nice to mix and match in my experience. Only turns sour if the main event is not sold out. Best weekend at whitby got to be goth weekend....those folks know how to dress to impress! Ed

Fair enough, only did the east coast connection era. Sad day when it got demolished. Ed

Absolutely agree...proud to be a member of the Northern Soul CREW. CANT REALLY EXPLAIN WHY... Charlie likes the three degrees...so obviously he gets down to CONTACT.. Only vest I ever wore was a battleship grey pit vest...but each to their own. Ed

I cant remember cwg nighters running into the 80s. Ed

Always thought is was an odd record. Never heard it played out before soul bowl was selling them for about £8 brand new. I had one around that time. Great tune and group. Glad it's gained value. Ed

So.....this is my 2 day old Grandaughter, Felicity. Is this the youngest soul fist ever photographed? Ed
-
My son went to Glastonbury about 5 years ago...when the WHO played. He said there was a NS tent there with folks floating in and out. Ed

Anybody made a list of say the top 100 most expensive NS records, and an estimate of value. For the non serious collector, it just seems a total puzzle. It would make an interesting topic. Ed

Ha ha...probably....such a crushing blow:) Ed

RIP Sir. Worth a listen for sure. Ed

Characters are to be cherished.....hope he re unites with David Buttle. If memory serves me right, did Tom also have a special shuffle type signature dance? Ed

My first all nighter...Oct 76 CWG. Absolute loved it and as a newly turned 15 year old 4th year, one of the youngest there. However, it was baggy trousers, vests and badges. White socks, and largely uniformed. Lots of pop played in with the serious stuff. In recent years I've read a lot of stuff about the 1969 intake who were at the crossover into this new named scene, and lots packing up by 74 or 75 quoting its now a circus. What a contrast. I think its great, they think its turned crap. It's ebbed and flowed over the years for sure. Any 'progression' is snails pace with much more interest in nostalgia. Aside from the wrong symbol etc, in my opinion, the float, the music, the dancers, the clothes, give a reasonable account of what Northern Soul WAS when I joined the scene. Just you tube Northern Soul nights and even very recent events mostly reflect the very substance of what's being criticised here. For every 100 club, there's the local club times 100. Cutting edge, underground, no nonsense, serious ovoid, etc etc. As rare as the rarities they play. If I see an old punk, rock and roller, or new romantic dressed in original attire I do have a little smirk. It's inevitable the same applies to Nothern Soul from folks outside, and obviously from this post, some inside. Ed

3 corners anchored down with double pegs, 4th corner weighted down with about 15kg. 6 guide ropes. Approx 18 square meter exposed to an uplift wind gush...no competition. Great party though and luckily this event did not happen 2 hours later! Ed

Hosted an engagement party in the garden last week. Erected the gazebo in the morning, tables and chairs out, bunting and balloons mounted, guests arriving at 2pm.... At 1pm Mr Wind Gust turned up..... Certainly provided a topic of conversation! Ed

I thought the space hopper fans were typical eccentric brits. Lots of uk artists made some classic norvun.. Kiki Dee, Chapter Five, Dusty, the glitter band, Julian covay....fame at last! Ed

Kin el A dodgy badge on the truck as well....God knows what symbol would have gone on for the torch....probably held in the hand of somebody in a white cloak. Ed
