  2. Another few colourful covers. Sorry they are small.... Ed
  3. Pretty much sums up the Northern Soul Scene. Freindly rivalry? Not sure I've experienced a lot of that. Wherever money is involved it turns nasty. Ed
  4. When I first got into NS, like many others it was the catchy stuff like Out on the Floor and the Flasher. Then somebody bought me that solid soul sensations LP, and I'm like wow! This stuff is incredible. They were obviously oldies by 76 and you would never hear them played out for years and year unless in Mr Ms and such nights. Scepter Wand produced some absolute belters for sure. It will be interesting to see how many top 500 of 20 years ago compared to today! Ed
  5. I agree. It would my top 500, but I've never heard it played out! *Jack Montgomery also, Do you believe it, should get as much recognition as DB. Ed
  6. Very good...I just love those screaming vocals. Ed
  7. Continental club, June 1st 1966. Imagine being lucky enough to attend that! Ed
  8. Tammi's plight is featured in the Temptations movie. Must admit, if remotely true, its a sad waste of talent. Ed
  9. A great article. Nice how they put a link to each song up. I wonder what Berry Gordy would pick for this list? Ed
  10. Might as well have it on.. Superb artist. Ed
  11. Is the demo with black, and stock with red? Great record. First heard it off the comp lp around 75. Ed
  12. Wylie Trass And I was lucky enough to be there for the other half, Freddie Hughes singing this. Ed
  13. Maybe you can add a list of the 50 perceived most valuable discs... Frank's back at number one there at least! Love the book I got, had the bonus 100 as well. The back stories are brilliant. Can't be many own a full set or even 75% of a full set. Ed
  14. Absolutely... The frenzy to dance to this at CWG made it special for a few weeks, and then it over. The reality is, that if it was a genuine top sound it would have been revived many times over. It hasn't, but nostalgically it will remain a part of our scene like many others. Ed
  15. Obviously only joining the nighters scene from Cleethorpes Winter Gardens meant I probably missed 85% or more of being there when the big sounds were first played. Nevertheless....Black Soul crammed the floor to a frenzy....for a few weeks. Only other track I saw that really impacted the floor was James Coits Black Power a year or so later. Both are probably dismissed today as youthful exuberance! Ed
  16. Blanche Carter, Little Joe Cooke, Rain, and the real biggie Black Soul Music Black Soul.. Ed
  17. Agreed. To say the extremes of tunes played at Northern soul events has been expanded is an understatement. I'm Jealous of folks who love everything and everybody...but I dont. As soon as the upsetters gets played, I'm ofski....but accept I'm a minority. I kind of get it now how the original fans pre 74 felt once the tailor made stuff started to get played. They did not want it, and it drove a lot away, but ironically at 14 I could not get enough of reaching for the best and weakspot! Frustrating twist of fate i guess! Ed
  18. Maybe... Personally I cant stand the "anything goes" mantra, and prefer to know what room I'm walking into, music policy wise. Nowhere is ever perfect for everyone, but whilst I've been bored stupid at the 100 club with mid tempo 60s obsurities, the floor was full. On the other hand I went to do in a Blackpool hotel and when "No part time love for me" came on, I was dancing alone. So I get why two or three rooms even are used if it keeps more folks happy. Promoters will obviously try to appeal to as many punters as possible. Ed
  19. For sure at the Cleethorpes weekenders when I've wandered into the modern room, a fair proportion is unknown to me. Ed
  20. I guess the bigger events with a modern room would be the place to go to hear the newer sounds. The best filter into the main room. Been like that since at least 1980. The modern room was always a smaller affair. Modern soul nights again have been niche but will survive, have to survive. Ed
  21. Was it shortlived? Mainly a Wigan tune? Only sounds vaguely familiar. Ed
  22. That four perfections is a record that when I've not heard it for a while, its brilliant again and again, but heard for a third or forth time in quick succession is boring! Love to own it though. Surely the price is inflated these days? Also when did the cliff nobles start getting big? Can't remember it in the 70s or 80s, but it must have been known about. Ed
  23. A modern twist. Ed
  24. Gloria Fowler is superb. Ed
