  1. And just FYI..... Many many followers were in Burtons and Jacksons tailors getting bespoke made to measure clothes. Everybody tried to be a bit different if they could... Ed
  2. First heard Maxine Brown on that Scepter Wand LP. Fell in love with it and many more. Obviously it must have been a big record prior to the LP release, but where and when? And realistically I never heard it out up until about early 90s as a revival. Ed
  3. I've said it before, and I will say it again....boring I know! Baileys nappy nights around 75, this record came on where the girls left the dance floor and a dozen or so boys in strange clothes got on and a crowd formed to watch this fast dancing with fists punching the air, co- ordinated clapping, backdrops, spins, etc. Eventually I got told the tune that was playing was called Reaching for the best.... Never seen or heard anything like it before. Who'd have thought a tailor made would hook so many of us, but it did. Ed
  4. That could be true.... Ed
  5. Look at this cheeky chappie. Ed
  6. Ennerdale hotel....and muncaster Castle... Great memories from about 30 years ago. Ed
  7. Sunsetting over la Gomera.... Very atmospheric.. Ed
  8. Times are hard....nothing over a grand.. Sold my Maurice Williams for £40. Don't look back in anger, I heard you say. Ed
  9. Not so good...a sign of the times. Closed until further notice. Plenty on here will have had a good night in this venue. Ed
  10. First day in Rife for ten months... Glad to be back. Ed
  11. About sums it up...look at the cab back.. Ed
  12. A sign of the Times..... A coffee mug replaces a beer glass and in case you get a bit forgetful, your name is on it, so you remember who you are:) Probably more use these days than a personalised talc container! Ed
  13. Most of the big records at cleggy wg and that era were pressed up virtually overnight. Obviously the Magnetics slipped the net. I can't remember either side from then. Was it covered up? Ed
  14. In reality.... I would imagine most serious djs play their best 2 current in demand records as the introduction and finale.....on most occasions, just to make an impression. There may be the odd shock jock who bucks the trend! Ed
  15. Trends...gonna have to show you.. Martha Starr...no part time love for me. The list is obviously endless:) Ed
  16. I agree...the term NS and its trademarks are a debate within a niche group. MS would involve multi millions of SOUL fans unless only used as a sub division of NS. Ed
  17. Brilliant again. Ed
  18. Really nice to enjoy an almost back to normal London. Pretty busy, a few overseas tourists, London Marathon, covent garden full, hardly any police, theatre land busy. Ed
  19. View from London Bridge towards Tower Bridge with his Belfast in-between.. Ed
  20. I guess its also about when you joined the scene. One of the first massive sounds for me was Barnaby Bye.....but no doubt folks who joined 5 years earlier, literally baulked at it. Ed
  21. First trip to the smoke in 2 years... Giving London in the sky a go... Ed
  22. Up to a half of NS is also "popcorn" A good 25% is Motown. Modern, R&B, blue eyed, etc. Yes, let's keep it simple. And finish with it will never be over for me! I used to laugh at middle aged Teddy Boys and Girls, in their attire. Must be plenty laughing at us now:) Ed
  23. Surely KTF pales into insignificance compared to still using NS. The kind of "soul" they like up North. 50 odd years on, and maybe time for a different collective description encapsulating the world appreciation of the music, or is that too complex? Perhaps keeping the faith in the way of life affectionately known as Northern soul is as good a description as any, at the end of the day! Ed
  24. Not sure if this needs moving, but what a great video of these great kids with the co-owner of D Town records... Enjoy Ed
