  1. What a great topic, you have supervisory tendancies to care about the answer, can I go now. Do you work in Time and Motion? No not Tamala Motown. Ed
  2. Pop being popular and selling well? IF THAR OF TA SANFRANSISCO, WER A FLOWR IN THEE AIR. Now you will being singing it all afternoon. Peace Man!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ed
  3. Well this topic could develop to what was the worst record that had the best sales but it could be even worse it it turns out Murial Day sold more than 30,000 in its first week. Tony Blackburn will be re-releasing 'anything' if he reads this. Ed
  4. How can you dance to Tim Tam? Top of the pops stily. The DJ must have heard it first, let them confess. Ed
  5. Yes there are a few 'moments of madness' but which DJ's had it first. Those blighters are quick to broadcast who played the 'cheatin kind' discoveries, but go AWOL on the 'S***E ones.
  6. I think Motown has it tied up for happy, so many singalonga tunes. Dont think those Funk Bros were as happy as Berry G though. Ed
  7. Picking up on an events thread, what are the worst records ever played, and who put the dirty deed on that turntable for the first time. Own up you DJ's, who got Tim Tam's 'wait a minute' breaking first. Did they all come from Wigan?? Ed
  8. Thanks for clearing that up, its always been a talking point with my KGB mates due to the amount of quality records Nev played and displayed. RIP now. Ed
  9. Sorry if the names spelt wrong, but in about 1981/2 at the KGB all nighters in Sheffield, I had the pleasure of looking through his record boxes, all those UK demos etc, and I remember he tragically died sometime after, but does anyone know what happened to that collection. It must be worth 500,000 at todays rates. Ed
  10. Dont forget 'this chap' did have a hand in some other 'soul sounds'. He probably did not make as much profit out of it as others have and could be a bit amazed at how much attention 'Do I love you' gets. Not read the book yet, but it should build up a better picture of the mans ability outside of that tune. The instrumental being played is an outrage. Ed
  11. Try and get one of his LPs/Cds, with Showdown on of course. His vocal range will amaze you. It gives the Gospel Classics a run for their 'gospel content ' money. Ed
  12. RIP Johnny. I have sung and danced to 'talkin' so many times, what a record. I hope he got to know how much pleasure it brought before he left. Ed
  13. If you like Terry Callier, at least get the 'best of' CD for about a tenner (Finbarr in Folkstone is a good mail order option), and pick up the much better 'Look at me now'. You can really push the boat out and see him live, as he has been doing a couple of concerts ( a bit jazzy, but he is a living legend) in Leeds and London each year (Ticketmaster.com). Ed
  14. How much is the FREE ANGELA LP bringing these days? £2 in Bradleys Doncaster 1980 Ed
  15. Jerry Williams - If you ask me. Yes I know its not rare but when me and 200 others sang along with him in LA (the old Swamp dog) a few months ago, it got the tingling up to max effect. According to the KRL book someone had the words tattooed on their back(RIP), so it has stood the test of time. On a rare disc (at least the original) my member name 'tomangoes - Really love you' is also almost the perfect NS choice. Ed
  16. I was told in Barnsley they have a kind of 'Show and Tell night' Where collectors gather weekly to swap info, listen to tunes, buy, swap, sell, etc. Not a bad idea. Ed
  17. 'Shake her loose' is another great track from the Jackson Sisters on mums, I think. The BBC have also put out 'The Gallop' MWATTSS, and 'Make me believe in you' PJ. Just think if you had the chance to pick the tunes, some folks are jammy beggars. At the moment 'Cheatin Kind' would go down well the Greeks!!!!!!!!!!! Ed
  18. Try the Hard Rock Cafe, the manager gets everybody up on the tables about 11.00pm, you can really show off your stuff there, and of course its full of Brits. Ed
  19. Does anyone know when the first ever bootleg appeared? It must have been profitable for all concerned as it grew quickly as a business opportunity and even got the big record companies bringing out re-issues of tracks that were dead and buried, with little of the royalty reaching the original singers and writers etc. Whenever money is to be made, the entrepreneur is not far away. How many artists got a pay off from the hundreds of CDs doing the rounds? Legitimate ripping off I think. Ed
  20. Realistically, good or bad, who else will get the chance to get those acts to appear in the future. Ian Levine went beyond the call of duty, and REALLY must be a Northern Soul Freak, amongst other things. Kev Roberts 'Trip to LA' was a kind of real time version, and the one to NY could be just as good. Buy the DVD, go to NY, LEARN AND KEEP THE FAITH. Ed
  21. ITS NOW 3 MONTHS SINCE I CAME BACK FROM THIS KEV ROBERTS SPECIAL AND I CANNOT BELIEVE SO MUCH NORTHERN SOUL COULD GO INTO A WEEKEND. FOR EXAMPLE MEETING JIMMY RADCLIFFE'S SON, HAVING A BEER WITH JERRY WILLIAMS, AND DANCING WITH GWEN OWENS AND BEVERLEY ANN. I THINK ABOUT 400 BRITS WERE THERE AND IT SEEMED EVERY TIME YOU TURNED ROUND ANOTHER LEGEND WAS WALKING BY. INCREDIBLE. SOME GUYS WERE DOING A VIDEO, DOES ANYONE KNOW IF ITS GOING ON SALE. ROLL ON NEW YORK KEV, LETS MAKE IT A 1000 ON THE FLOOR. EC
