Is it the 'instant' label with the saxaphone emblem and a red and white background? Ed
-
You see the problem was that the first wintergarden nighters had the DJs just through the door and you could go up and see the disc. Then they moved it up to the stage at the back and made it impossible to see what was being played. I blame the DJs. Probably covered up anyway. Ding ding ding. Ed
-
This is a real long shot. I only ever heard this at cleethorpes. Ok goes like this Ding ding ding,,,,,,,,ding ding, ding, ding ding ding ding. and repeat. A fast stomping instrumental with a distinct guitar opening. Sorry that all I got. For years I thought it was soul step by the dogs until I heard that tune off a CD and its not the same record. Think think think. Ed

With about 50 replies, some quality choices. In the days before it was called Northern Soul, I assume then that only mid to uptempo soul was played. Maybe the Northern Soul tag was a curse allowing too much variation to the core underground theme of danceable soul. In recent years I have noticed the RARESOUL being favoured to NORTHERN SOUL by many who insist it has to be a soul record in the first place. Ed
-
Although the words Northern Soul do not guarantee a record is in fact soulfull, it must be said that the majority are. Whats your top 3 that prove this point. My top 3 Tomangoes - I really love you baby - Washpan. Gwen Owens - Just say your wanted and needed - Velgo. Dena Barnes - If you ever walk out of my life - Inferno. Ed

First heard this at Wakefield Unity Hall, along with Seventh Wonder, Lovelites, and an instrumental of Fight the Power. Great toon. Ed

His other item he sold looked at bargain at £6.50 though, thats if you like fishing. Ed
-
Well at nearly £1000 a tune, I better take the other earlier advice and buy the CDs or pressings and just be a pretend DJ. Still I wont be on my own. I wonder what the value will be in another 50 years. About £500 if anybody is still around to buy them. Ed
-
Not a bad guess then. Now the easy bit of finding a collector with all the records and securing a 100 grand bank loan and doing the deal. The offers of DJ work should come thick and fast. Fame at last. Ed
-
I thought it was about Paris Hilton. Imagine if the video had this as the backing music. Ed

In a sign of the times, I am the taxi driver on Saturday Night to take my 15 year old son to to see this Rapper in Nottingham, maybe I can ask the Starsky and Hutch wannabe if it is Lynn V. (And did she give him any of her records to save). About 25 years ago I was taken to see Linda and the Funky Boys. What goes around eh.

NEW FASHION FOR THE WELSH. Rugby Fan Hacks Off Own Testicles Match winner: Henson scores the winning penalty... and condemns fan to mutilation A Welsh rugby fan cut off his own testicles after his team beat England, police have today. The man was rushed to hospital after the incident at Leigh Social Club in Caerphilly, South Wales. A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: "We received a call from the ambulance service at approximately 9pm on the 5th to inform us of a situation at the Leigh Social Club in which a man had indeed severed his own testicles.'' She said the man was taken to Heath Hospital but could not confirm his condition. It was reported that the man told his friends: "If Wales win I'll cut my own balls off.'' After Gavin Henson kicked Wales to an 11-9 victory in the Six Nations clash at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, the man is reported to have gone outside and severed his testicles before bringing them back into the club to show fellow drinkers. A local was reported as saying that the man was on medication and should not have been drinking.

How much would it cost to buy as listed in the Kev Roberts book 'top 500 singles', assuming you were in a position to do so. First guess 100 grand. (Not a bad investment as you could make a living out of being a DJ) Ed
-
Once saw a youth at a cleethorpes niter with Taj Mahal LP (A LOTTA lOVE) cut down to 7" by a hacksaw I think. I assume it must have been the last track. Some folks only like 'singles'. Ed
-
Swopped this 24 years ago for the 'Free Angela' LP with Dickie Wonder - Nobody Knows track. Pricked my memory, thanks. Ed

Temps CD has been discussed before. It is fantastic and well laid out. In line with the Funk Brothers, it highlights how these artists did not get such a great deal for all the work put in. No wonder most of them left for other labels just to get a fair return. Best part of the film when David wants the group to be renamed with his name leading. Cheeky get. Human nature never changes does it. When is the 4 tops story coming.?? Ed

In 1995, whilst working in Delhi (Did I get the belly, I say did I get the belly) I picked up several Stevie Wonder tapes from a market called the Haus Kas (I think thats the spelling). In the hotel bars (Oberoi/Sheraton etc) there were a few travelling artists playing Blues and Soul, with one particular band from the phillipines who knocked out a decent version of 'More today than yeaterday' a good line for the output caused by my Delhi belly. Actually just sold my original black issue for £40 to a girl in Germany. Its poppy really, but just about OK. I thought the pressins were white. Ed
