  1. Thinking about it, could this be the most expensive record break in NS history? If so at least you will get your name in the record books. Theres always an upside, so Im told. Ed
  2. The story about 'tough girl' I heard was incredible. Billy Arnell cut the toon with all his savings only for it to flop, although if hes still alive and kicking and had 100 copies now he would recover his losses. Oddly enough, last year whilst walking through Times Square NY, my son bought 2 cds from rap singers(Franchise and another name I forgot) who had done the same thing and were selling them themselves at $10 a go. Nothing changes much does it. Ed
  3. Dont Knock Tony Christie, he's from Conisbro. A similar town to Amarilo and once host to Jimmy Ruffin, Detroit Emeralds, and Ken Dodd at the Adeles WMC. Ed
  4. Walter Jenkins - Back in my life - Faderkat Mike Jemison - Satisfaction - geneva About a tenner each. Ed
  5. I remember one record dealer from Rotherham who put a length of string through all the records for sale in his box. You could still look and examine the discs but not easily. I expect you were his last customer before he took this action. Talk about Sack the Juggler!!!
  6. They always knock out a CD from this show. Should be a stunner based on the first episode. Was there any Soul Nights in Whitby/Goathland in the 60s? They showed some mods and scooters last series so who knows what will come up next. Ed
  7. Well Kev Please tell the Major that THAT record is TOP DRAWER material. It sounds like a $10000 tune and always gets the best reaction on a dancefloor. It is truly an Anthem. The label, the emotion, the beat, the harmony. Awesome. Ed
  8. Similar to the 'name on the label' thread. Bumped into a guy last year at a 'Sportsmans neet art' and it turned out to be DJ JOHN GREEN from the soul show mentioned circa 1975. Small world. Any other examples of 'you never guess who I just met'. Ed
  9. STEVE MARSHALL - MAINTAIN. GREAT SAX BUT TOO FAST TO DANCE TO THESE DAYS ON THESE LEGS. ED
  10. IS THAT THE BAND WHO DID LA 2004? ED
  11. Just sold one for a tenner. whoops. ed
  12. Contenders. Bought this off Derek Sheldon who played it at the Brickyard Mexboro around 1977. Other stuff he pushed at the time. 'Do I', ' I loved you once' and 'Music - Jeanette White. Ed
  13. Hey that new ad they have looks pretty Northern Soul influenced to me. Like an animated version of the 'Jumping at the go go' LP. Any agreement here.
  14. Best Alexander Patton in LA 2004. Worst Gladys Knight in Las Vegas 2004. Ed
  15. The point being that there is no definition of Northern Soul, its in the ear of the beholder. Ed
  16. Brothers and Sisters behold. If one of our flock has the opportunity to preach the sacred word of Northern Soul on TV then they must exert all efforts to do so and they will be cherished forever in the hall of fame. Well if Tommy can promote SWFC on Corra, there should be somebody flying our flag on S/tenders. Ed
  17. With discs commanding these kind of prices, its about time there was a Nothern Soul museum opened to let us mortals look at such discs. I remember the price crash in the early 80s when prices hit rock bottom. Collections were almost given away. God forbid it turns full circle again, or there will be some frustrated collectors. Ed
  18. Is this the same tune as on the windows 95 trailers. Ed
  19. The ebay.com 'you owe us money' spoofs are very convincing too. Then again bootlegging original material is well known in our circles. Maybe its those blighters from our scene who moved on to bigger and better things.
  20. Reaching for the best - The Brilliant Exciters - The Flasher - Mistura - These were the definitive youth club Northern Soul tunes in 1975. Made to Measures, Cherry brogues, Fred Perry's. Quality. Ed
  21. Starting the topic off. Dobie Gray - Out on the floor - Black Magic - ten bob. Played it to death. Ed
  22. Also try the SOUL CAFE in New York, and the MOTOWN CAFE in Universal Studios Florida (great staircase, broke 2 trying to get them off). Ed
  23. Is it the same Rosemary as Mr Wylie went on about.
  24. I thought this singer was a regular attendee at Wigan? Just like Marc Almond. Got to admit I could not believe anyone could cover a couple of nothern classics and get them high in the pop charts no matter how bad a version it was. Even Tony Blackburn tried. Also heard a version of Bring him back - Sissy Houston - I think by Dusty Springield on an old 60s TV footage. Hey this music can be inspiring. Ed
  25. Thats it James Bynum. Hippo rules OK. FROM MY DING DING DING, it amazing!! Get this tune back on the decks. Ed
