  1. Endless list really and maybe better broken down into sub cats. Currently singing along to Elbie Parkers - Please keep away from me, just love the way he 'alters' the keep word. Long time fave would include Lenny Curtis - Nothing can help you and Eloise Laws - Love factory, just about able to sing it all through after about 5000 listens over the last 30 years................ Ed
  2. Vernons soul stag do. Shit spin attempt in the street even by my standards. Good line about shit promoter/band not coming. Mel Torme - Coming home baby Billy Butler - Right track Al Wilson - The Snake Stevie Wonder - Nothings too good for my baby Every time you turn the telly on its Northern bloody Soul. As Henry Lumpkin predicted 'Soul is taking over' Its about time it went underground again, or we will end up with another revival. Merry Xmas PS, cant wait to hear the tunes selected for Verns reception. Walking down a one way (Coronation) street. Ed
  3. I remember the pressing not having the classroom bells intro that was on the so called original. Cleethorpes WG / 76 big record at the time along with the likes of Little Joe Cook (Against my will????) The pressings were coming so fast they even got the titles wrong. Ed By the way, great story about the Professionals. Priceless.
  4. Just watch the Temptations or the Funk Brothers movies if you want to see RIP OFF in action. Northern Soul has given more credibility and real revenue to many artists who would have remained unknown without the 'so called chin strokers' who searched them out. When you saw the look on the faces of some of the artists who 'got re-discovered' and told of their popularity in Europe, its plain to see overall they got something back. Artists like Edwin Starr, RIP, were/are hero worshipped here compared to what they got out of the US. My only wish is that more artists could have got to know about their fame. I think most would have guessed that when one of their records did'nt chart they would be mad to give up the day job and never expected to get rich. Ed
  5. The guys who put Darrel Banks final dignity back deserve respect. Like the story about Bob Relf on here not getting his full royalties from those who profit at his expense, they should make a donation and keep these stars memories alive. Maybe a Soul hall of fame. Ed
  6. Never went to Stafford. I suppose it was the start of my 'lost years'. Before anybody writes a book, why dont those soul sources who did go send in some posts about why it deserves one and educate us all. Ed
  7. RIP Bob. For sure bmmtp and mlg are as good as it gets in Nothern Soul terms. Hope his family get the royalties due, and bmmtp gets back in the charts once re-released. Ed
  8. Did Trevski (I dont know him or even read the thread this relates to) ask somebody to pass his thoughts on or did he say what he thought himself? I suspect the latter. Funny thing, I got talking to a guy from Worksop whist sat having a pint in a bar in Tenerife last Sunday and he told me he actually attended the very first Wigan Casino nighter and he mentioned 'Scooby Doo', and how little respect Scooby Doo had amongst the 'professionals' on the scene. Now some of you will wonder what I'm on about, but I can tell you that the above paragraph is relevant to this thread. In conclusion, if thas got owt to seh, say it thee sen, or shut the fcuk up. Ed
  9. 247 visitors so far. Only an idiot if it does not sell (ebay fees etc). I always admire the cheek of guys like this and pity the fool that buys it. Its always gone on though, just more scrutinised with modern media. Ed
  10. Spot on, I met Ruben at LA2004 and he was good enough to sign my copy with 'Keep the Faith'. Its a great book if you can get a copy and highlites the fact that an underground scene existed in the US at the same time as we had the rare soul scene in the UK, but dwelling on the slower side of soul, and in many cases the followers of this genre are chasing the same records as us but for the flip sides. Some great facts like the Montclairs were named after a fag brand and Lorraine Chandler sung on Eddie Parkers 'Love you baby'. Ed
  11. Its a bit cryptic mate, not sure what the point is. I can agree that there is so much to learn in the world of rare soul that its a lifetime thing. For example, reading through J Manships rare soul price guide, I can honestly say I only know 50% of the tracks at best. Maybe I would know more by listening to them, but the fact remains that after 31 years of interest in this music, I am not even halfway there to considering that I might get the 'chin stroker' status. I got a book all about 'low rider music' a few years back that describes the formation and output of mainly black soul groups in the early 60s. The information is massive concerning the movement of artists and renaming of groups etc. It would make a great 'trivial pursuits topic' but the point I am making is that the search for knowledge is endless, so join the club and get researching. Ed
  12. Late 70s Soul Bowl Soul Pack record, must be thousands out there. Ed
  13. I think your observations are right, its amazing what people buy on ebay and if the items are still viewable to all and sundry (who are ebay members) and able to check the history its bordering 'invasion of privacy'. It must be great for criminals, tax inspectors, and record dealers to check what activity bayers get up to, so they can rob the house, send a tax bill, or over-inflate record prices. Ed
  14. Who has the claim to fame as being the most senior active DJ still doing the rounds? 60+ ? 70+ ? Ed
  15. Its all in the wrist action........... Or index finger in this case. Ive got the flicker and believe me Im flicking. Ed
  16. Need to know basis eh? Nudge nudge wink wink, I get the picture. Sometimes I cannot understand why anybody would have made the records that we hold dear. For example 'Sidras theme' vocal/inst. I mean who the hell would buy that apart from us??? The list is endless. Ed
  17. I would If I was....................... Always trying to impose my musical taste on anyone I can. As Hamilton Bohannon once sang (I think it was also a Mecca play) SPREAD THE NEWS. Ed
  18. Crouch scored, Owen off, Come on England. Sky 401. Ed
  19. These guys and contempories had no idea what they were creating.......................... Ed
  20. Always and forever............................... no not that song, I mean these below: Youre ready now Ten miles high My hearts symphony Ed
  21. If its undeclared income I would steer clear of Her Majesty and her collectors for advice. Staples have books of sample business forms/contracts etc. You will have to make a standard form and adjust the details for each gig. If both parties sign, its legal and binding. Keep it Simple. Ed
  22. Not sure about the label thing but I can tell you that I think this guys voice is awesome. Bought a'best of' CD a few years ago, and have it playing in the car loads of times. Ed
  23. Northern Soul 2007 CD, obviously. If that does'nt get rid of your mates when you've had enough of them on New Years Eve Nowt will........................ Soul in the Sun ticket - April 08 Aweek in Florida whilst the $ is looowww. Ed
  24. We know what makes you dance, cringe, smile, and fart (sorry not got that far yet). What brings out the 'songbird in you' THERES NOTHING ELSE TO SAY -(BABY) - INCREDIBLES both night and dayyyy IM SO GLAD - FUZZ These do it for me, in fact I dont even need the track on................... Ed
