Now that I could buy into, getting a soul artist up there, I think its probably very difficult, but imo a far better idea than getting a random Northern record there, only thing is, and maybe Mr Millbrand could help, is making sure its a record the artist gets paid for and not one where the money goes into the pocket of some conglomerate since the artist sold the rights for 2 shillings!!

The Friendly Face Of Collecting Pt.1 - The Zudan Label
jocko replied to Derek Pearson's topic in Look At Your Box
Can't help too much I am afraid, other than to say I kept the Delwands but sold the Earles Inc (for peanuts!), maybe a mistake, just listened to the Delwands again and Time side is a lot better than I remember, the flip is better dancer but as you say messy as hell, although I did favour that side for some reason. I definitely think that is the type of sound that was of the 80's, couldn't see it being playable now! Cheers Jock -
Not sure I get your logic, surely all it would do would add a few more to local soul nights, of people wanting to hear the record off TOTP strangling further the ablity of these local soul nights to play anything other than the pop hits! I suppose it really depends on what you call the Northern Scene, from what I read on here it seems to be a whole lot of local soul nights vying for local people, and having to play safe to get them in, if thats the case then maybe this would help that scene, however if thats the future of the scene then my armchair is even more welcoming than before. I think, in danger of sounding arrogant again, that I find it strange that all this talk of how to get new blood seems to focus on commercialising it. to me the scene was at its healthiest and most fun when you had a couple of hundred hard core people travelling all over to hear the new sounds, soul nights were just there for a casual entertainment, you didnt need 1000;s to make it work, and that attracted lots of new blood, coincidentally many who have drifted away, like myself, as its got bigger again. I dont think that scene exists very much now, although since I am one of those who cant be bothered maybe I am not best person to quote. I think we just want different scenes, and the crux of the matter to me now is that is what seems to exist! Dont really want to get into a debate re this again, been done before too many times, just thought I should explain in more detail my thinking. And Davys comment about spending more time getting real soul people back attending is the one everyone seems to miss, I think its a very pertinent point. On that note of to bed for me! Cheers Jock

WTF is it a fantastic idea, sure what things need currently is even more daytrippers with no clue as I am sure this would attract!!! Sorry mate, interesting point in theory but in practice do you really want to go back to 1975???? I think we should just stick to this as an debate on here, or am I just being grumpy again. Cheers Jock

Thanks to the wonderful sales section on here, at reasonable (and realistic I would say!) prices thankfullyhave had dropping through the doors this week Jyve Five If I Had the Chance To Love You Decca (sounds even better than I remember) Ben Monroe Broken Home Dakar(Heard on recent Grapevine CD and thought needed this) Movers One Little Dance Brent - heard on the first tape I got from Gilly many moons ago and never got round to it, great group sound and decent b-side which is always an added bonus. Hopefully a few more to arrive via the sales on here, proving to be the place to get a bargain methinks at moment. Cheers Jock PS I also had about 20 new release 20 CD's arrive via the very good bargain list from Simply Soul, if you like your music of recent times then there are some bargains to be had there, but then if you do you probably know all about Fish's lists!!!.
