  1. Thanks but had already been offered an Enchanters. I have the Implements, think I have an issue and demo of it (dementia sets in at time of trying to remember what I have sometimes), its okay but is it not very SC stylish, while since I listened to it.
  2. Thanks for Rachel, interesting site. Did know about the Ike and Tina but forgot about, left one behind last time in States as was too expensive at around $25, wonder where we get our reputation of being mean!!! Will add this to the wants page!! As an aside re the Redd Foxx lps I actually have a 7" ep with him doing comedy sketches, so not just LP's, although WTF I bought it is another question!!! Cheers Jock PS will get back to you re the PM re CD, just popping in briefly these days and keep forgetting to answer the PM's!!
  3. Ruth Lewis was covered as the Poppies was it not Mark? Still have, and fond memories, but can't say it would do it out for me!
  4. One question re this 12" I have it on blue label with red across top but sure I seen it on Ebay in totally different design, assume both are originals etc?
  5. HIs best by far (which shows you how good it is as I really rate his Northern records) and I would say his rarest, Butch spun it a couple of times some years ago. I would say this is a real bargain at todays prices. One I would love to hear out, can put up a soundclip if anyone wants, Cheers Jock PS John dont know if you will remember me, its Jock O'Connor from Edinburgh, long time no see, hope you are well.
  6. Laying For You Girl - o.malley jones - airwave 13373 refosoul Hi Ady, clip of OJ, I think its great, good vocals if a little southern sounding for our late night venues I think. Credits are amazing, the record has the most credits I have ever seen. Here goes. Airwave RecordsAll-Cities Records - Division and trademark of Airwave Records.1983 © Blue Music, Studios Pranava Hitman Hollywood/CA Fidelity Studio Ca. A&R Tom DePierro Prod and Arranged Ceasar Valentine Mixed by Michael Lee Mix Engineer Micheal Boshears Background Vocals Fred Tolley, Greg Lee, karen Jackson, Robin Alexander. Written by Ceaser Valentine/O'Malley Jones. All of this on the face of the label, unfortunately cant scan at moment but if you need sure could take picture and email you.B Side is Instr. Sure there was article on Airwave in New Blackbeat so Steve G might know something.Did remember it was Tom De Pierro who was ex Motown exec who owned. Think Rod Shard on here may have known him. Also think on RSF forum is a guy Robb K who had something (major) to do with label so sure you could contact him there. Unfortunately cant find the other Airwave 45 I thought I had, but now sure its just plain white label with writing on pen that I got from Move records so may have misfiled, do remember it got some plays, if right memory!! If you want anymore re this 45 get in touch. Cheers Jock
  7. I have the O'Malley Jones and think I have one other on Airwave, do you want me to check anything when I get home?
  8. Me too, have had Tony Owens on ebay search and this has only came up couple of times and I always think next time..... Any idea on value of Tony Owens?
  9. My memory seems to say it was when Dave Evison was doing work with Charly but my memory is probably equally bad, too many nights spent in darkened rooms!! Mr Flynn seems the common link here though.......
  10. Could it be as it wasn't released, thought it was tape only too, cmon Mr Croasdale, give us some more of your time!
  11. Emotions - help truth & the portraits - true love 13296 refosoul Left of left field, for those who like their vocals a bit shouty! But again atmospheric one for Mr Darge, not sure its stood the test of time too well!!Okay thats all from me!
  12. I Got Your Number - boogie kings - paula 13294 refosoul Okay Joan is whipping me with quality so need to go for the left field stuff. Again, maybe a bit earlier than Stafford, but fairly sure it featured at least up stairs!!! A lot of Northern but not too much soul, forgive me Superintendant!
  13. Have A Good Time - tammy wayne - boom 13293 refosoul Hmm maybe chancing it with this one, remember being in Kebs house with this, I thought nah a bit to popppy, a few hours later I was dancing round the floor to it, very infectious out loud, and love how the foghorns build all the way through!!
  14. But I Couldn't - willie harper - alon 13292 refosoul Get one free with a pint of petrol these days its so common, but once a Darge stomper, a bit knee slapping in bits but used to get me on the dance floor, when I could get out the record bar!!!
  15. Oh Baby Doll - bob& earl - tempe 13290 refosoul Mr Sharp again? Who cares, stomping record of its time, closest Stafford got to resounding handclaps, maybe not, but hey memories are only an illusion!!
  16. My Womans Love - out a sites - saru 13289 refosoul Clifton Hall first surely, for Mr Brady??However abiding memory is Mr Salter being lost in this on almost empty dance floor at Stafford, educating me to quality over quantity!
  17. Cry Like A Baby - versatiles - staff 13287 refosoul What a label name, George SHarp play???Great Record again
  18. Lonely People Can Afford To Cry - clyde mcphatter - amy 13285 refosoul Okay like this game now, sure that most of the records I put up can be challenged whether they are Stafford sounds, however my criteria is I have memories of them there (we will ignore the dementia problem for now) so have counted them. This however surely has no dispute. Picture it, Guy H elevated on decks, demonic look, fag with 12" ash, clicking his fingers in the most soulfull manner possible, does it get any better. Is this the sort of Nostalgia that can aid progression, I hope so,The record of the era FOR ME, and such a record!
  19. Okay after Loma thread realised need a couple to complete my collection I think, of only the soul numbers obviously!!. Bob & Earl on Loma (havent heard or seen this, only on listings, can anyone confirm it exists!) Walter Foster - Waiting - Seen this on recent sales list I think but forgot to go after it! Linda Jones - Hypnotized LP. Ike and Tina Turner LP As an aside was this only LP on Loma? Cheers Jock Updated Cmon Ady C or Tony R, the men from Kent, surely you know something, with your zillion years of research between you, about the Bob and Earl 45, pleeeeaaaasssee.
  20. I am afraid I agree with this, while its great to see them getting the adulation they deserve, many of the weekender acts make me feel quite sad thinking what they may have been. Its no coincidence the best are always the ones that are still performing. Of the last of my heroes still alive and performing that I have not seen are Ashford and Simpson, who I have just found out are here in Birmingham, so that will be another life ambition ticked off!! I wont bore anyone with my seeing Aretha story again as its on here somewhere, but for Sean H I saw the Neville Brothers last year at Poretta and they were fantastic, maybe not as much vocals as I had hoped but just a great funky performance. Of todays acts I think I would like to see Anthony Hamilton/Jahiem as both are old school style vocalists recording modern music at the top of their game, to me the best time to see anybody. For those with a wider interest than just Northern I would tip Kindred as a great live act to see, fantastic vocals and just great together. Cheers Jock
  21. See below for details, have CD but haven't actually listened to it as yet! /index.php?showtopic=40489
  22. So Simon if I promise not to pick on you again will you sell me the ones I dont have! I agree about the patchy and the different tracks, thats why I was asking about when they were done, they dont seem to be specifically for the Northern scene and its a fairly comprehensive review of the label, so was wondering about the audience. I will put up tracklists for ones I have tonight. I realise that with the odd tracks, thats why I was curious re the source of the 50 track CD, just being nosey honest, no soul police intent.
  23. Well spotted young lady, I was just wondering why nothing had been done on Loma, very interesting track list, although did wonder about legitimacy as they would all be owned by WB? Ah yes the This is Loma LP.s, amazing LP;s when you think about it, were they released mid 70's or later? I think I have about 4, bought out of Woolies for £1 when they were clearing their records out, were there 9 in total? Does anybody know? Does anybody have any for sale to fill my gaps. Rachel if you dont have above I could do you Loma CD of most if you want, let me know what titles you have, think I have most soul stuff on label. PM me if you want any. Was going to put up last 6 or so tonight if still allowed, as assume you wont repeat this label, including the couple of b-sides requested by Ken. Cheers Jock
  24. Help Yourself - larry laster - loma 13259 refosoul T'other side again, maybe not strictly Northern but listen to the man sing, can we have this as an example next time we try and define a soul voice!!!I remember playing this at Allanton, only once, the cactus blew across the dance floor, the doors swang open as the last person left I still sang every word and smiled!!
  25. I Wanna Love You So Bad - bobby reed - loma 13258 refosoul Other side of Ill Find A Way, and criminally ignored, would have me slapping my feet on the wood. Note the number of double siders on this great label!
