    Spread Love

Sure you are probably after the album only, but if not its been released on CD recently by KD I think, decent copy of it if its just for home listening like mines
  2. Currently double CD from these guys who are re-releasing lots of the All Platinum stuff, not earth shaking in music but interesting to hear the jingles etc, dont think its an original show but worth the tenner for any of those who dont mind listening at home to the silver platters! Very influential man Mr Crocker. And re the lifting of other records assume groups would have allowed him anything in case of exposure on his show. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Outta-Sight-Soul-E...0622&sr=8-1
  3. Album credits are By Willie Hutch, Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp/Its The Same Song Music. BMI Must admit never noticed it was the talented Mr Hutch before, Do you still need scan, thats from the album, have the 12" Uk as well could try and scan at some point if you need it, let me know
  4. It was the 147.
  5. As someone who was around in your influentual days on the scene always interested in your views, can you expand on why you think Russ qualifies? I would ask this question to anyone posting, rather than just name someone how about we give a few reasons why they qualify.
  6. Did this never come out on any of the UK Move compilations in 80's? Alan at Move certainly had a couple of copies at time of release, thought I had got one off him at time but just trawled the shelves and it no longer resides there.
  7. Cheers Chalky, as always on the spot, my memories of these days are all completely confused in time zones, thought the Ray Pollard was a few years later, must have been something to do with being out every weekend!!! Great memories of these, including a mental 14 hour bus journey from Edinburgh on Law Travel, sure Andy Dennision will remember that, the sober bits anyway!! Met a lot of proper friends at them and first experience of mayhem that was to come at future Cleethorpes!! Dont remember the Four Tops being there, either didnt go to that or they didnt turn up, anyone remember them being there? Was the Bettye Lavette the one Iain Levine made his comeback with his interesting entourage or was that the later one?? Waves of nostalgia coming over me, off to listen to some Y2k soul to fight it!! Cheers Jock
  8. Were the first Great Yarmouth weekenders not earlier than 89 Dave, the ones run by Barry Morris (?) the Snooker guy under TAC banner or something like, with Ady helping, sure they were way earlier than 89 but then the 80's and 90's are a bit of a blur for me Mr C will be the man with the dates. The precursor to todays Southport was at Berwick and that was a hardcore soul crowd in those days that although did feature mostly 70's (it was only the 80's so suppose you could call it a modern weekender) I think Alex Lowes deserves the credit for the blueprint of the weekender as it is today. Jock PS after Chalkys post, the Motown weekenders were the first, well remembered, still thought that there was earlier than that and certainly dont remember Rockie Robbins etc but as said my memory aint what it used to be. Cmon Mr Croasdell a full potted history please!!
  9. Stuart as always a great mine of information. There may be no obvious connection but I bet you there are currently about 1000 people trying to find out if there is any, he may grow to hate you Stuart! Hope you are well Jock PS Make sure that man Cowan doesn't mention Motherwell/Hibs too much if you can!
  10. I have an old 3rd edition (4th is current one) that you can have for nothing Stevie, just let me know if thats any good and PM me your details. Good to see you at Middleton, (and others I met) although I wasnt my usual talkative self, combination of being out of practice for all nighters and therefore ran out of steam at about 4ish when it all went a bit dull imho and also having spent the evening with top man Mickey Cruise had exhausted me
  11. Show me where I called you a racist, I was quite clear on my wording as to me that is a very serious accusation with no proof. To try and accuse me of that with no substance is bang out of order. I actually did not call you a xenephobe either, I said the way you expressed your points on this debate was xenephobic, you are clearly proving you are not by your home life, maybe therefore think before you speak next time. I did not even attack you personally as you imply in your previous post, I challenged your logic, as are others are now. You still have to answer any of my points. It is difficult enough to debate on here without causing offence, please just stick to facts in future. Jock O'Connor
  12. First before answering below and on topic where exactly is this mythical NS HQ in the UK these days, that suggests a direction and a strategy and a united (at top level at least) scene, I certainly don't see that, I only see a load of egotistical local councillors doing their own thing. Maybe time again to say there is no Northern Scene in the UK, just loads of local scenes for local people. Agreed, but WTF was Northern last a youth culture? What relevance does that have to now? You say above that we originated it, but here you say it exceeds its origin, if its original how does it have an origin, what is that origin and in what way has it exceeded it? WTF has this got to do with this debate, how many were recorded specifically because of the Northern Youth culture you are supposedly talking about here, other than the embarrassing casino classics type, are you saying you are proud of these? I would say we have far more UK Northern records than UK Soul records, although there are some fine UK soul records. I assume you are meaning Northern or it doesn't make any sense as above first, some of us are happy to have lost these along the way. Were Mods not based on European style, scooters suits etc. Not maybe the music but the style, did we not steal that? This was part of the evolution of a culture surely that predated the NS scene. No but the way you express it means you come over incredibly xenophobic and arrogant, much the way most people think of the English. I assume after all your time in Germany you speak fluent German and have many German friends? From my experience that's hardly just a European problem nowadays re dancefloore and I would be interested in further clarification of just how people revere the music, my experience is many NS people will listen to anything but outside the scene and many more still don't connect it with a wider soul scene, that's not a problem for me but its not revering the music, its revering their Lost Youth Culture as the NS is nowadays. The spiritual home for NS will always be the UK agreed, good thing is Europeans are taking the good sides, the music, comradeship etc and leaving the shit. In particular the Europeans seem to get the point it's a soul music scene and therefore the crap that's been played over the years is getting lost along the way. Well done I say. The Germans, Swedes and Italians I have met are every bit as passionate about the music, much more knowledgeable than many about the music AND its roots/history and are very respectful of the origins of the scene . Which when you read your two posts is really more than some deserve.
  13. Great idea and very worthwhile sentiments, sure through power of internet he could be contacted, via direct website or something? How about a Levi Stubbs Wednesday to follow todays David Ruffin day (great idea Baz, will try and get some more up tonight) putting up some of Levis lesser known moments so any of the doubters can hear why so many of us regard him as one of the greatest vocalist ever.
  14. I was very pleased to be reminded so could get my very large order for lots of cheapies in (all too common for you Tony) Have sent it to your info email address from website John hope that is allright as would be struggling to phone today. Cheers Jock O'Connor PS Have asked the girls to remind you that you still owe me a pint from 16 years or so ago, Scotsmen eh!
  15. Yes I have an album, on RCA if I remember rightly, great deep track on it and couple of uptempo numbers I think but long time since I pulled it off the shelves. Will have a listen and post up details when I get home if no-one beats me to it Someone send me a Pm to remind me tho......
  16. If anyone has spare copy of the LP would be interested, assuming reasonable price (by my tight standards!), always mean to pick it up when it appears on Ebay but never get round to it. I am with Sunny on get the LP first nowadays! Cheers Jock
  17. Oh S**t there's that bloke from Scotland that keeps reminding me of the days when me and Steve G used to write monthly that Northern was dead and I would never ever have anything to do with it ever again, better slide out the side door before he catches me and make my way to my 8th gig of the weekend!
  18. Probably the greatest Northern Soul record of all time, proper NS, or proper Aggro Soul to use my favorite term! Totally off topic but thought I would say it out loud!
  19. Anyone able to send me an MP3 of the Neil Kimble, got a few other records by him so wouldnt mind hearing this, too tight to buy it blind for that price
  20. Thiink it was on Chris Andertons latest sales CD, he advertises it on here so you should get his details.
  21. So what is the original 12" label then, are you sure its legit? Think you will find the CD was out some time before it even crept out on vinyl so if you are truly original only it should be CD. Sorry.
  22. Mark Bicknell was selling a Canadian copy recently, may be worth a PM. Still have great memories of this back in the day!
  23. Label for proper disco music, great label, some bad stuff but far outweighed by the good. As I said proper disco music (thats meant as a compliment) but also many proto house records, just a milestone in a black music history (sometimes known as soul ) Some did cross over though to the more progressive rare soul floors, Leroy Burgess Heartbreaker from Mr Buchanan, Janice etc. As someone else said both sides of Eddie Holman TWBANTR sound great now. Off to dig out some Salsoul stuff and put my first sound clips up! Disco Bunny Jock PS Phil we obviously posted at same time re LB but great shout about Logg I Know That You Will, possibly the greatest on the label and heard on a proper sound system it just about blew my heart out, Proper dancing music!!
  24. What the original CD you mean?
  25. Cant PM you as at work, if you still have Kenny Shepphard will take that off you, pm me your email address
