  1. I think I hear the sound of the wheels of the wagon falling Trev!
  2. Think it was a lot more than 8 years ago was it not, think you may be surprised at how much time has passed! Robin found it Stateside, was the story not that RS bought it to give to his accountant who if I remember rightly is a well known North East collector? Anyone confirm.
  3. I think you may have a very long list mate, if there are about 10000 members think you will find about 9967 of them are DJ's these days!
  4. It sure is Paul, think it used to be a huge brewery there, although it is available worldwide now so not sure. Damn damn fine beer, one of the beers that has put me off our poor imitiations since returning from that lovely country that is Germany.
  5. Hi Salv, I was there about 5 years ago and found what looked like an interesting one with some boxes of 45 on floor but as it was Sunday it was closed, unfortunately we were just wandering so can't tell you much about direction. Are you also on RSF forum, if so post over there, Marc Forrest is on and may know, although he think he is more Berlin. Most shops we found seemed to seel new stuff only,
  6. Last 3 of these are absolute bargains and prime candidates for sounds to go in 2008 in the xovery world I would say, see them for up to £30 each elsewhere. And Rozetta Johnson is just one of the great all time ballads sound clip below,
  7. And at a far more realistic price I would say. Let me know if you don't get it Andy, then you can finally come round for that beer and look at my copy. (which I off course only paid £2.50 for in 1926!)
  8. So are you saying you don't mind people playing bootlegs Paul, strange statement from you, or is it only old bootlegs you don't mind. What about the Sam Dees/Bob Relf boots, I take it you are comfortable with that?
  9. https://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~abdnpaul/ The above website is your best bet, looks like there may be all dayer on Sunday, which is quite busy I believe, contact Paul who runs the site as he is a good guy and will let you know of anything or even Lennie (Bigsoulman) on here generally knows if there is anything on. Enjoy one of the most beautiful cities in the UK, as long as you don't mind paying London prices!! Let me know if you want any more details on restaurants or pubs for general entertainment.,
  10. Some nice tunes in there mate, the 2 above being the pick. Sound clip of the Buddy Ace on this thread for anyone who has not heard it. Savannah International /index.p...63410&st=50
  11. You do read some interesting things into posts, I think what Ady is also saying, or should be saying, is at the 100 club, then you are far less likely (probably 100% unlikely) to hear bad repeats because of the DJ's he uses, and if you do hear a repeat then its likely to be because its fresh and new and worth hearing a second time. And as for Cleethorpes weekender does anyone really care about repeats over a 72 hour period (within limits obviously) Think you need to change your venues rather than change the DJ'ing world, your idea would be far too restrictive to any DJ that likes playing more than one style and tempo. I would also say I dont think repeats of new stuff should be discouraged, I asked JT to play something a second time in one of his sets at Lifeline, although he refrained. Sometimes particularly today it is a good way to get things noticed for new stuff.
  12. Not sure if you are joking here but just in case not, his real name is Dave Lee, and a real Londoner I think, a rare occurence enough. He used to have a passing interest in Northern, and for some reason when I met him he wanted to hear Freddie Chavez, another seen on the cheesy side but a very talented producer in his field, really intelligent sampler on some stuff, a bit ham fisted on others, a certain Dr Who fan could learn something off him on producing authentic sounding new music! Another that wouldn't have thought was that influential as a DJ but certainly as music maker in the overall black music field he has been fairly influential, knows how to have a good time too!
  13. Basically thats what it is Dave, with a few token Northerner's thrown in, which to be honest I have always felt has been B&S's policy since I started reading it late 70's. I do agree with others that these sort of lists are too subjective to be taken too seriously, but what it has done is got a section of the Northern scene debating B&S contents, when was the last time that happened, so probably its provvoked even more debat within London clubbers and in that case arguably its probably done what it set out to do!
  14. Sorry Dave but you are completely wrong there, most of those DJ's made there name in the 80's at the latest, only a couple in 90's and a couple later, very few young people would know them, as I say its based on the London club scene which I assume you have never frequented, not a dig there, just think we sometimes forget there is a huge world outside the Northern scene. Matt think Chris Hill was probably a very influential DJ and most business people have said he has an ear for a tune that is often overlooked because of his commerciality, however to my knowledge his claim to fame is introducing swing nights in London, so its another one of those London things I would suggest. Keb is an interesting one, I did keep buying B&S till it stopped and after a few very bad years it was slightly better, but still aimed at the teeny bopper market. however Keb or the Deep Funk thing generally never seemed to register, never thought about that till now.
  15. f**k just seen the date on this and it looks like I am away on holiday too, can't believe it have been looking so forward to this, AAAAAGGGGGHHHH
  16. I think this list is aimed at the Black Music club scene in general, and very London centred, which is what B&S has always really been aimed at rather than the Northern scene and therefore they have gone for groundbreaking or scene changing DJ's and to be fair, other than Russ who seems to be in there for his promotion rather than DJ'ing its a fair list although lots could be debated, particularly whether people like Oakenfold (who I don't rate) and Bobbi & Steve (who I do rate) were leaders or merely following on from others could be debated. Agree with Martin its bizarre that have missed out Colin Curtis, probably far more influential than Levine overall if you had to choose, but probably both worthy of a place for what they did in their time. Baz to be honest B&S haven't been aware of Northern for the last 20 years so Butch wouldn't be on their radar. B&S has ceased to exist in printed medium but believe rumour has it they are trying to come back as online mag.
  17. Not sure what is the right b side but dont think you see many issues of this, have been keeping an eye for a while and all I have seen are the demo's with IYCGHL on it as I already have, was told the issue had another good side but never knew the title.
  18. Hi Mate, can you not report him to Ebay for leaving neg feedback for no reason, thought they had some process of appeal, although from what I hear they have processes for lots of things they just never follow them.!! Had numerous strange packages last year (records that is not plain brown ones) including a pizza box with single inside as someone said above and about half a dozen 7"s just within a plain envelope and loads of shredded paper that was obviously supposed to cushion them but it had just gone through the middles making them as solid as a rock (name that song!). Thankfully no damages as yet! I think the worst packaging (between 2 open cardboard sleeves!) was from a guy who charged almost double normal rate for "better packaging"!! Normally from the US I must admit, all good reasons to buy all your records from the grumpy buggers in Melton Mowbray or Wolverhampton me thinks!
  19. So is Mario Bondi, they are on Schema a fantastic Italian jazz/jazzy house label based in Milan, google Schema records for the website. Not sure about the UK one, never seen one but you never know. Mr Sutton will probably know.
  20. There is a French shop called Boogie times, web address is https://www.boogie-times.fr/, they are on the expensive side for some stuff but this will give an idea of values, also think the owner is decent guy (not dealt with him personally mind) that will answer some questions
  21. Are you bored in Chicago or something!! Happy New Year when it comes, see you both soon.
  22. Read my quote above and you will see why, why should people be allowed to say such things with no comeback, and why the hell would you make such an opinion based on him on that documentary alone, that is the definition of ignorance alone and ultimately proves my point. I have stated on here I hate racism but I hate equally people using the term with little or no logic or evidence. I am not defending him, I have made this clear in other posts, so you are just stirring it here Pete, I can only repeat I do not think people should be allowed to make such accusations on public board based on the evidence that you are using, and I know you know that. Just because somebody is nice does not mean they should be allowed to basically walk all over somebody else's name or reputation due to their lack of knowledge. I asked initially for her to clarify this point but as usual this was ignored and the thread went on a million different tangents. My last word on this unless someone can actually debate the facts.
  23. I tried to explain why I used the term above but as usual no-one reads the whole picture, I stand by what I say, I am sure Jazzie B would be more insulted about being called a racist, but hey we all seem to be ignoring this because we are sticking up for the NS scene that he insulted. Dictionary definition of ignorance is Lack of knowledge information, or education. I think a court would find it hard not to find Chrissie guilty of the first 2 on this thread, therefore happy with my position. If you want to debate above then fine, but if as everyone seems to want to do is ignore the facts and say Chrissie is nice women go ahead, I do not feel the need to participate. Its fairly obvious the majority think she is nice, does this allow her to say what she wants unchecked?
  24. No its a fact he WAS (past tense) a giant in Black music history, your opinion is you don't like that music, fine and dandy that doesn't change the facts, I called you pig ignorant because you called him a racist and I stand by that, again like your mate this is enough debate on here, ruining other peoples enjoyment when you will not deal with my main point, you calling him a racist, maybe I should have used the pigs ear analogy. I now leave you to your ignorance.
  25. I did answer the question, with one line, and trust me I am not on damage limitation, my personal views on you are much worse than I am expressing, I just don't do personal insults on here, don't see the need. For the last time they are not put downs, they are showing where you are spouting rubbish off as history, listen to Ady, he was there!
