Plays okay for me, and havent heard that before Eddie, nice record.
-
Not sure Andy, thought you may be able to do it as topic starter, maybe just Mods. Have a whole load of WH soundclips to put up in morning so hopefully okay in this section, sure Mods can shout if not correct. Cheers Jock
-
The first one came out on US Atlantic, but most copies skipped, think the different mix you talk about is on a compilation LP, something like Underground Dance Music, a brilliant comp, dashing now but will check details later on LP, some nice tunes for sale there young man, not true what Tef says about your taste after all
-
Fantastic Artist, what about moving this over to media Andy and I will put up some sounclips, including LTBLBY later today. Cheers Jock

Possibly the second greatest house record made, or at least the second most inspirational house record in my life, awesome brilliance, if you are daft enough to believe a house record can be brilliant. Proper Garage music (what happened to that term) can you tell I like it, and even better its on the UK label rather than the nasty US one that jumps all over the place on many copies. Just buy it! Dashing off to a meeting but will put up soundclip later.

Hi there, thanks for that but phone went so never went back to it, will try next time. Did you get my email at weekend, if not send us your email via PM as not sure how old the one I used was. Cheers Jock

I am assuming you are being ironic here Trev, the response had as much substance and thought behind it as first one, only slightly less truth! Please don't be second * one to let him think he is funny as he will just repeat his sub Des O'Connor witticisms for any audience. Rich mate, know Wales lucky win at weekend (ouch not even I could say that out loud without ducking could I) is probably making you too happy to care about such trivia but your original post was spot on. We had the debate about this when talking about films before, why people on here expect a fictional film to be 32 hours long and all shot at Wigan Casino is unbelievable! Its f****ng fiction and art. I wonder if the American Gangster** is poring over the film recently out to make sure each kill and drug scene is exactly as it was back in the day, or is he just grateful that he is being made immortal in cinemascope!! I know I shouldn't rise but there are just some posters on here whose grasp on reality and fact makes Neil Hamilton*** believable. Off to the methadone cupboard! * I am assuming that some family member has misplaced their duty by humouring him and telling him he has funny, unleashing another unwelcome bad comedian on the world. ** Dan if you are out there, bought the two related books you recommended on this, not read them yet but they look great, *** Stuart/Dan feel free to substitute more relevant lying politician here as you seem to know a lot more than I do!

I tried but couldnt hear anything, do I just click on the Source Talk on front, where do I go from there?

Maybe you should change the heading of your thread to Northern Dance, or 60's pop, or any record with a beat and a shrill girl voice, or some other suitable heading that doesn't attract all these boring soul fans Simon! Expect a slightly better quality of debate and insult from you to be honest! The constant knocking of anyone that dares to be a soul fan on here is becoming very tedious and tiresome, as well as generally uninformed, won't use the word ignorant as that seems to be less acceptable than spouting false views.
-
Oops sorry Simon, I hadn't seen this when I sent note re Robin, sure he will be the gentleman he always is and let you have first grab. Apologies again mate!
-
Richie I have dropped Robin Salter a note saying you are looking. Sure he was where I heard it, many years ago, not a record you see often now. but Robin has tended to hang on to most of his records, he will let go for the right price, sure you can live without a kidney!
-
Surely you would be too busy playing your records as normal to notice she has gone anyway!
-
It's 1-57736-367-1 Sure I got it off related website but can't find any details, Try ABE books website, can be expensive, but if you can't get it over there sure you will see it there.
-
Sure about this Dan, thought I had at least one 80's track by him and thought Move records were doing business with his stuff and that would be the 80's, unless different Freddie Waters. I have this book, published by Hillsboro Press from Tenessee, and sponsored by the Country Music Foundation press, haven't read it as yet but it looks fairly chunky and interesting.
-
Is this track actually going to be on the UK release Martin, its not currently listed on US or Uk Amazon, sure Fish list had it on Jap, need to know as its track of the year so far, for me anyway!
-
And your Do At The Zoo with the Special Branch mob, first time I ever encountered a jazz room and you were playing, must admit lots of it went over my head but we stayed in there just watching the dancers - Jeff Young and Pete Tong playing soul (although not very well) upstairs, shows you how long ago it was when they were still on the good side! When you finished watching the dancers you could walk around a bit of the zoo (reptile house maybe???), it was a bit surreall and I was a bit drunk!!
-
Since I have the 7", the 12" and the LP it would be churlish not to think about offering it also! Think there may be a deluge!! Will send you a mail in next 1/2 hour so Mr Salter, should get a rather large package arriving in the next day or so! Assume you are now working!!

About 4 years ago we managed to jump on a tour of the Appollo theatre in Harlem and the guide was a small time actor, can't remember his name, but had seen his face in bit parts in TV films over years, so must have been in his 60's and had lived in Harlem all that time, he did all that guide stuff and other tourist type stuff free as there was concerted effort to get more tourists direct to Harlem, although this was proving difficult with the big tour operators offering things like the Sunday Gospel brunch etc etc. He was reasonably affluent I got the impression but he was predicting the time within 20 years there would be virtually no black residents in Harlem, including people like himself, much the same as the rest of Manhatten. He was telling us stories about landlords invoking small print clauses all the time to evict existing tenants and then re-lease houses at 3 or more times original costs, one story was about little old lady having nephew to stay for weekend, as she had for many years, but there was somewhere in lease a clause about not lodgers and he invoked that, despite his knowledge of the nephew for many years prior. I agree with Dave there is obvious gentrification in many cities in the world, but NY is any many ways sadder as 100 years of history.relevant to our musical tastes, is in danger of disappearing. It is very much a sympton of NY being made safer for people like us to visit. Mayor Guiliano's policy's had downsides as well as the many ups.

I take it you are familiar with all his work, do you want to give us a list of his 10 most annoying records to you, then we can have better idea of what you are forming you'r opinion on. Getting back to the closest thing to a topic this thread has, my opinion is Tommy Hunt has made some truly excellent music, some okay if a little MORish stuff, and some (not surprisingly tailor made for the Northern scene) I don't rate at all. I am not even going to listen to the track on here as it will just tarnish the recent memory of him from the Kent do, where although the ageing process had obviously had some impact on his vocals he still was a decent singer. I just hope, like the optimist Denbo, his Soul in The Sun connections are at least making him some money and if so good luck to them and him. His Capitol and Atlantic 45 I would imagine would surprise many, and his version of I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself is becoming my favorite version, and there are a few good versions. Worth diggin a little deeper than Loving On The Losing Side (which actually on hearing at Kent do sounded a reasonable little disco number!) to get a better idea of the mans talents.

https://www.francesnero.com/Frances_Nero_We...te/Reviews.html Look about 2/3's down, I appreciate your trust in the recording company (or niavity) but this was from one google. don't think it would be that difficult to find more similar evidence. I don't want this to turn into the usual discussion about you know who, just think it's better to have some semblance of fact behind our stories on here.
-
Did any of the artists actually get paid for that, that was not my understanding which is surely the crucial part of helping these artists, rather than just the respect! Really don't think you are using a good example.
-
Hi John I am good, if living quietly at moment, I have a few of Big Daddy magazines in loft that I must dig and make sure I didn't miss, but yes if not would be interested in a look. Hope you are well and see you somewhere, I haven't been out in Scotland for ages.
-
Agreed Brian, nice to see Steve re-applying that journalist talent, there may be another magazine in you as yet Mr G. Seriously Steve (coudn't double quote for some reason) great post and agree with your last compromise, it's a great summary of how it used to be. Is anyone other than Butch (who I just can't believe is so rarely credited on this site) and Andy Dyson actually discovering new things these days, i.e. not just djing with them? Does anyone care about that nowadays? Last slightly tangential point here, do we not also need a book on the dealers, believe John Anderson was interviewed for a mag but I missed it, can anyone confirm. I think one focusing on Mr Manship and Mr Anderson but also covering the stateside ones such as Martin Koppell, Kev Roberts, Iain, and the UK travellers such as Iain Clark, Tim Ashibende, Butch etc etc would be fascinating, in fact wouldn't mind writing it if someone wants to pay a large publishers advance! Mind you they are a right bunch of grumpy old gits so the interviews could be tough.......
-
Completely agree Steve, it's great to hear about things that Geoff remembers, as in reality there seems to be very little documented about that time, to me its a really interesting time and would think there is a reasonable audience for something like that. And sure if you throw in a couple of anti-establishment comments in each paragraph Dan might think of publishing it!

Seconded Tony, some real great soul records in there for £2.50, jeez, sad thing is the cheapness will no doubt put many people off. As an aside the Freddie Waters under 70's category sounds very like a slowed down version of a very obvious Northern oldie that I can never think of, and it is much better, a great double sider
