HI Gene, I though they were just careeer criminals (The Lemons ) with the mother being some sort of Ma Baker figure, and not very nice people. I had thought that they press ganged people into recording this record. I also thought they were doing time for murdering policeman, after a failed armed robbery. However on reading your story sounds like maybe some artistic licence has been added by the time story has reached me. I never met Ron personally so any time I I heard the story was 2nd or 3rd hand. Believe it made the press but just googled and nothing came up. Whatever the story it is a truly awful record, with some of the worst vocals ever recorded, and just awful musical arrangement.

Tried that and didn't like it, going for the direct mailing approach now. When are you coming? She was fantastic last night, honest. Sorry last off topic post from me, but will say before I go Mr Levine's comments about soul police sort of shatter my inferiority complex theory!
-
And what should the Northern scene be about other than discovering new records, is that not whole the point of the scene? Once that is gone you are left with a lot of flybynights here until the next big thing comes along.................

A Listers like soul police are generally the product of people who have an inferiority complex. Obviously some poeple deserve such a complex, they just don't know it. Bit like people who reinvent themselves, its only a matter of time before they trip themselves up (wont say over their baggys as thats too obvious and a cheap shot!)

Do you actually know who Ian Levine is or are you bluffing yet again, you are hilarious.

I much preferred when we disagreed all the time Dave, this is no good for my Mr Grumpy rep! But yes Dave hits the nail on the head here, and actually thank goodness, as a film about NS is unfilmable IMHO, so a story set around people where it is an integral part of their lives is surely the only way to do, otherwise you would be as well just showing Steve Catos excellent short looped for 90 minutes. I think the bit most agree on is they should use original music and Keb seems to trust them on this bit so, maybe we should wait and see. Joans other point about being exploited for resources, dont think anyone can disagree with that, they knew what they were coming here for and the lemmings went for it, I was going to ask to have my hand pictured in a scene in the record bar but reckon it had too many wrinkes, So agree Dave, lets wait and see.

Thanks guys, much as I had assumed other than never thought of Van singing himself, have recorded the best tracks so will put some up when I am not so manic with things, Definitely gnight.

Thanks Roger, as accurate and helpful as ever mate, love your enthusiasm for this side of stuff. Oh well pleasant surprise it looks like it is real, have had it for about 29 years so makes a nice change for things that I bought around then!

Ho Ho - it was Friday I missed the last train which meant I was going to have to buy another £85 ticket on the Saturday, and since my missed train the previous Saturday had cost me a £55 taxi fare to Thorne thought it was just one journey too much!! Have a good one, hope she shouts at you (the Mother In Law) Hi to Karen and a big thanks again for hospitality, we must do it again next time!! Double Ho Ho, young lady, you know I am always a bundle of joy except when confronted with pesky middle aged youngsters that haven't started shaving yet! Triple Ho Ho, glad you stepped into my PJ's and slippers quite so quickly, I had a great time falling out with Diane all weekend and blaming her for me being stupid, dont worry you can repay me by being mein host for all future Northamptons, since looks like Elaine doesn't want to adopt me anymore. And despite you pranksters above looks like I have my 2 records, assuming Godz hasn't been shot by passing Japanese plane, so no amount of slagging will ruin my ebullient mood, despite the fact have been sitting here working for the last 6 hours!! Gnight All PS Comon the Babs Album can't be that hard and need to get it before Bully comes back on holiday and hears what it is.

Stop being so reasonable and informed Mr Darge, much better watching people make it up as they bicker! How are you old dog, am I getting an invite to your annual 50th birthday party again!! Hope you are well, will hopefully see you in September. Jock

I sure would young man, and a very reasonable price for a record I will probably never play (which I should say I never buy things unless I like them, but felt leaving the Northern run in the label 1 short would be a bit mean!!) if you weren't all scaly with a dangerous sting in your tail I would kiss you. Let me know how you want me to pay, I can even send the cash round hand delivered by dusky maidens (as long as you promise not to eat them) I am so delighted. Have a lead on Walter Foster but if someone has one at reasonable price they two will also get me all slobbery and emotional. Cmon the Barbara Acklin cant be that hard, make my record shelves complete! I really do love this site, I dont always show it but, but it is (mostly) a wonderful place to be!

Hi there, on a roll, so before I go to sleep, thought worth trying a few wants. Sandy Layne How Many Times Loma 2052 not my sort of record at all but one of 2 I need to complete the Loma soul (of a sort in this records case) 45's Other one is Walter Foster - Waiting Loma 2018. nice ballad, but not that nice to command Craig Moerer's price in my opinion, always seen it very cheap before, just not seen it in a while. Go on, make my LCD complete. Also one album Barbara Acklin A Place In The Sun Capitol, sure its all over Gemm etc, but would prefer if reasonable to get it off one of the nice gentleman (or ladies) here, Then thats it no more vinyl for the rest of the year so please stop putting up cheap records on here you guys!!

Hi there, just wondering if my Laura Lee To Win Your Heart is legit or not, its a WD but with no matrix stamped, I compared it to my Freddie Gorman WD it has different type setting and that has matrix stamped. Have asked about this over years and was told in past the demo was not booted, however this looks very fishy. If needed I can put up scan tomorrow, TIA Jock

Been playing through a few LP's tonight (while trying to work out how to promote on MySpace without feeling like a bloody stalker) and dug the Van McCoy and Friends LP, a re-release I assume, as I have it on Australian SSS Int from 1976, but absolutely no details of artists etc included, I have seen Sweet And Easy as 45 but not sure about any of the others, I assume it was released to cash in on his disco success, but was it all stuff from the 60's? And were any of the other tracks released. Does anyone have any details of the vocalists included, assumed it would be Chris Bartley but not sure on one listen. Anyone shed any light on this interesting LP?

So by not buying something that will actually put money in the artists pockets, these artists that you profess to love so much, you are purifying your soul! Hmm another opinion worthy of the loony bin, I would suggest the real artists were all about earning some money for their art!! How about you keep buying vinyl and also buy these wonderful Kent and Soulscape CD's and pay the artists back for their hard work, maybe a bit radical but............ PS Sorry Karen, I know I should just walk on by but its difficult.
-
Just shows how time is merging into one big blob at moment, I had always thought the Chuck Carter was one of they Charly unnissued things, which I assume would have been earlier than above? Great record though. is it on one of the Kent CD's?
-
Arnold McCuller I think, old Robin S play, like so many. I have it on album somewhere, if no-one else puts it up, will put it up tomorrow
-
I have ther South Camp 45, do you need any scans or do you already have them. Love Waits For No One is a great track, I think its already on Refosoul but can do soundclips also if you need them.
-
How do you define the trappings of "I know better" could it be someone who comes on here cussing and swearing and telling everyone how much he knows and how he has forgotten more than anyone knows, and he knows more about black music than anyone else in the world, or are you saying that was just a sense of humour now.
-
You really are as big a parody as your hero Mr L aren't you. Do real soul fans dissapear for 30 years and then come back saying their way is the only way, sure you could make a cult film out of that. And real soul fans generally moan when Northern soul isn't 1000% soul, get it right. I repeat for the millionth time Soul Police etc is just an excuse used by people with an inferiority complex, sometimes justly.
-
It certainly brings tears to my eyes. its bloody woeful. I despair..................again.
-
Do you know Mark I think I only bought 1 or 2 and have a feeling they are somewhere in the record room still unwrapped!! But yes they are great compilations and again sure Simply Soul will have these. Forgotten your Edinburgh question, assume you are at Sheffield next week? Probably easier to chat then, offer of staying at our place still there, but understand the Mrs may want some luxury for a special birthday! See you soon big fella.

Tell him to buy the Kay Rush series, on Italian Time label, if Simply Soul doesn't have them Juno will, they have a pretty good representation of recent years, think they are all double CD's and at least 5 in the series, that should keep him going. If he wants to be a bit more adventurous get some Japanese Essential CD's, (Future Soul is probably the best), DJ Kawasaki is essential, Simon Grey and Studio Apartment are good but not all house, some jazz-funk and more electronic tracks, Simply Soul definitely has these and may have sound clips, The other 2 Japanese releases I would recommend are Tokyo House Lovers and Lady Sings The House again not all soulful house but some killer tracks, Last couple I would recommend are House Of Love and DJ Oji CD's, all from a great Baltimore set up, championed by our very own Dr Bob Jones. great stuff., There are also lots more conventional compilations, some of the Hed Kandi (beware, a lot of there stuff is light weight tosh) Lots of good stuff out there.

I have the Contempo one, but have never heard the Okeh one, assume it is a different record. Sound file anyone?
