Sorry Mr Hampsey, have to pull you up on this one, was a staple play in last hour at Shotts all nighter late 80's and that was about as Northern a do as you could get, think fair to say that was where it got started, a tip from Jim O'Hara, it was you boys down South that took a while to catch up (for once! )

What is the details of the Sy Hightower Steve, who did that, was it Hayley?
-
I am pretty sure I have the Jimmy Ruffin on Polydor LP Rich, I know it was discussed as unissued at the time but sure I found the LP in Manchester not much later, will try and dig it out when my PC repairs are over! Also forgot to say wantt aware the Sam Dees Shotgun actually come out on 7"? I bought the David Sea but dont remember seeing the Sam Dees, is it still available?
-
I am really curious about this Jayne, you and a few others have said this a couple of times, this implies that you can tell its "rare kinda stuff" just by listening, do you mean totally different in style or just that you don't know it?
-
I will be in Tuscany sunning myself and escaping from the various death threats I seem to be exposing myself to on here. Business or pleasure? That would have been great to catch up, I dont go till Saturday if you are around Friday?
-
I always had this down as a Searling play, was it Bobby Adams c/u?? Pat actually doesn't get the credit he deserves sometimes, right from 79 he was always quality, must be as he is also a grumpy bugger, although dont tell him I said that though, dont want a thick ear. Oops forgot to say, before I get accused of doing something wrong on here too, fantastic record, one of the couple in the batch I sold early 90's where I made a bit of a mistake in the price methinks.

I want a peaceful life and everyone to like me like they like you! Any tiips Mr C. Are you going to London this weekend?
-
I dont mind getting shouted at for what I say, which sometimes is understandable, but on this thread it seems to be acceptable to have a go at what I haven't said, and make up the rest. Do want to expand further on WTF you are talking about or are you going to do yor usual one liner and flounce off
-
Do you mean the Womack/Pickett song Dylan, if then hard to beat old Wilson's but you are right there are a number of good versions. I put up a Maxine Brown version of her epic LP which is nice but more in a crossover style so not as deep as the others. I also have it by Falcons on Atlantic 45, it has part 1 and 2 and the part 2 really lets loose, not sure who is on the Falcons line up by then. Sure I have a few other LP versions, will check tonight, unfortunately cant do sound clips at present. I did not know Lou Pride did version, would like to hear that, when is it from?
-
Andy I used to have a British and a US copy of this, dont remember any extra tracks though. Send me an email to remind me and will check tonight, may have given one of them away though as sorted out a few when I moved, hopefully not one with an extra track that I missed!

I suggested that last night Mike and it was ignored. What I assume were drunken rants last night were after I went to bed, I trust you will understand why I find it hard to ignore when somebody relentlessly goes on about me personally and then when asked to justify just throws more muck with no justification. I am sure you appreciate more than most how easy it is for people to stick something on print then just walk away from it, he has done this relentlessly and each time I ask to justify its just left. I assume the warnings are more why he is not gobbing something personal at me again rather any actual realisation. However I appreciate none of this makes your life easier, and just makes this site not a nice place for people, for that I do apologise. I am serious with my intention if I am left out of all this I will not respond, I have asked this twice and it has been ignored, but yes I will deal with personally rather than on site. And reading this back I can't beleive I am being sucked into something so childish, so apologies again to everyone, and especially to the Mods. Back seat for a while again

That wasn't really my point in isolation there Pete, I think it was being implied again that dancers dont care, implying anyone who dances isn't into the collecting side, in my circle they did and do and for most of the people around in 80's/90's it was just a given. I always think its selling a large number opf "punters" short with this implication I think I said later though that it is different now, and yes me too, I travel rarely for a number for of reasons, and in light of the recent crap thrown around on here, you are right, its even less important!
-
I repeat then highlight where its about my character and where it was not me merely responding This is the problem you throw muck then act like you have been wronged, you put up a lot of crap and when asked to justify it you just walk away from your lies. Show me where I did not merely respond to your "winding up" as you called it, or are you denying that as well now, thankfully that is still here for all to see or are you denying you started this whole thing to wind me up now, as you previously said you did. I hate liars, but was going to ignore you as you arent on my radar, with this you completely brought it all out again, last time I said leave me out of it in future and I would leave well alone, I stuck to my side of the bargain, you have now crossed the line with purely personal stuff, but yet again you claim to be wronged. I have no other option to defend myself against your muck, by any means necessary!
-
Do you really believe he knew what he is talking about? Facts scream otherwise I am not sure where you wound me up about the DJ's, do you want to highlight any posts where I said anything after you made a complete twat of yourself by your responses, do you want to highlight it and show in my posts, oh no thats right you can't. I set you a little trap and again you and your village fool of a mouth walks into into it. Which of these 4 top DJ's did you see on your years on the scooter scene or at which weekender or alternatively where did you see them. Oh thats right another question you will ignore while throwing around personal insults. The problem with the internet is any fool can reinvent themselves, the good thing is it takes a clever fool to keep up pretence. You have yet again shot yourself in the foot with some lies, last time I couldnt be assed exposing you but not sure why I shouldn't this time, maybe we can have a drink in the Dry Bar and talk it over or maybe not..... Sorry Mike but yet again this oaf shouts his mouth off with personal insults that I find hard to just ignore,. In answer to one of your questions Walter (assume you dont want me to call you Mr Mitty) yes I was minding my own business where you were concerned, the posts if they have not been deleted will prove that. I tend to find it easy to ignore foolish little children, oh another thing you are pretending about, you donmt even have the excuse of youth do you. You need professional help, I can't help you with that, you are however forcing me to teach you a hard lesson about life, you can choose just how hard that lesson is.

Which was f*** all to do with you, now do one.

I take it this is your night? When did Russ do this since it only started on 15/09. I think one of the guys on here might even know Kelvin to ask him what it was like. https://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=55572347

Don't Laugh - Just Played This And It Sounded Brilliant
jocko replied to Pete S's topic in Look At Your Box
I can't listen to it so will continue on the moral high ground for now of not having to say it sounds okay! , But what I am laughing at is the title, in todays PC world surely they could never call something like this, and have to sort of agree, it just sounds a real naff thing! I was watching some of those telly clips of NS stuff over weekend and they had a few of the big instrumentals on them and you find yourself tapping your feet along as they do bring back memorys, one was Steve Karmen, which I know isn't a complete instrumental, but it got me going I must admit. My other half who is used to me spouting about not enough soul in Northern just looked at me like I had lost the plot! Out in public of course I would shake my head and say No No No if they were ever played! -
Thanks for the nice words again guys but really no need, probably prefer if you deleted them to be honest, as Rachel says it takes away from an interesting thread, and I dont want to get on the wrong side of Rachel, birds from the border are hard you know!! I am about to PM he whose name should never be mentioned to see if he will stick to the rules of engagement in future, as I only responded, stupidly I admit, will probably include his new best mate since as usual there is no answer to my points just personal mud slinging. And before either thinks of responding on here, leave me out of anything you have to say, lets do personal off thread, people are well and truly bored of our petulance and Rachel and her talons are watching closely. I am definitely out of here now!
-
I think the fact you make a ridiculous statement like above shows one all nighter doesnt an expert make. Sure James Trouble could recommend a good NS finishing school, sure you wont make it but who knows............. I am off, can't believe I even care about such arguments any more, or got involved with you again, you may look like the village fool but me even coming in here makes me guilty of acting like it.
-
If you have something to say, say it to me, we have been here before have we not. But since we are here, can I ask you to articulate which A-Listers you mean this time and how you are going to knock them off their perch. I'll start with people who I think are at the top of their game, which is what I assume you mean by you your sneering term of A-Listers, Butch, Andy Dyson, Mick H, Cliff Steele, will be interested to know your plan and strategy, assuming you have actually heard of any of them!
-
I have no problem with you, as you say I don't know you. I have a problem with you patronising Northern Soul "punters". If I am wrong in my assumption then explain why as I can't see how it reads any other way. I think I have very clearly articulated why I have a problem with that statement. Threatening me has no real purpose or use on the internet has it. Jock O'Connor

Ahh you have heard about the Marriot Hall alnighters in Dundee from the 70's then Brett............
-
That is a fair point, as you know the LP's have never been a problem with me, only problem is I used to leave at least one behind every time I dj'd!! And fair point re the common sense part, but that again I feel is an issue with spending too much time on here (for me anyway) as in reality the venues I attend, as few as they are again, and the people I attend with, its a no brainer!
-
Okay shorter than last one, I was saying that I was about to give you a proverbial clip on the ear and suggest you go and join Mr Levine as surely thats where all you Modern Soul fans should be! However you now go and post something sensible and thoughtful and throw me, This is interesting as you have admitted in past you have no background in Northern so its interesting to hear a view of an outsider as such, and yes it does seem a strange world when you put it like this Roger, only defence is that this was never an issue in past because the whole scene was built around collecting, obviously over years lots of people didnt collect, but almost all the dealers and dj's etc had a background and an interest in the records. Its only been the recent years its changed and surely you can see why people get p***ed off as looking from the outside (me now rather than you) the scene has fell flat on its a**e as a result of this change Therefore in answer to your question, surely if the best days of the scene were around that basis then its only logical for people like us to think that venues sticking to this are better, but surely you can see its not just about the OVO thing, its the attitude that preserves in the DJ's and the sort of music they play, along with the type of crowd they play to, it allows a fresher more enthusiastic approach to the whole thing, so yes they are better. Gareth summed up far better just how separate these scenes are, (almost as much as the real modern scene and the Northern scene are nowadays to me) but its almost become fashionable to knock people who still want to carry on like this, with the tiresome taunts of soul police, a-listers and other frankly moronic responses. I do agree with your last paragraph particularly, which is why when I initially responded to this I said the quality and quantity of the soul nights are more the problem, but surely you can see why people like Russ & Matt, who are out supporting this scene weekly, get hacked off when things are thrown back at them, often by people who have just cottoned on to Northern or who are back after a 30 year gap, proclaiming KTF!
-
I spent over 20 years going to Northern do's and almost every punter to a man was interested in how good the record was AND what label it was on. Why are these mutually exclusive. From the above you are assuming the "punter" has no say in the equation, which I would suggest is exactly the patronising tone I accused you of earlier. What venues did/do you attend, because this was not the case in any I attended, It may be different now admittedly but I repeat its not that difficult to choose your venues to avoid any where this is not the case. You keep banging on about rules, I would suggest its more of a common law acceptance, is that not the term where something is accepted as its common practice, As a number of people have said, it has been the accepted way longer than the other way around, why cant you accept this instead of banging on like some libertarian freedom fighter, only problem is you have chosen the side of the oppressor, IMVHO!
