  1. :D Awright mate, sorry about that, first time you phoned I was at footie second time my battery had ran out, and then I forgot!! Will call you in next couple of days, just off for my anger management class on the tennis court!! I was pogoing beside you, I just had more balance, slightly! Hope you are wll mate and the old Asthma is getting better, see you soon?
  2. R&B??? Surely we genrify too much, a great Northern record, certainly sounded the business played out loud, although always preferred his other one Eye for An Eye I think, that Colin Law played out way back, fantastic double sider. I take it that is also a rare one these days?
  3. Hi old boy how you doing, just remembered I need to do you a CD mate, although sure you will have hear them all. He did say he was an old Northern boy, but I never believed him, well I never! You being serious about him being an Elvis impersonator? I remember him coming to a Clouds allnighter and Bruce paid him at least partly in bottles of something strong (whisky?) and he proceed to work his way through it during the all-nighter, even worse he was djing towards the end. I didnt really know him as I was just a young lad but he seemed a real rum lad and always spoke, he always said Clouds Edinburgh was his favourite place. Good to hear he is still around.
  4. Well other than Curtis this list covers 74-78 and 2001-2008 what about the years in between?? Isn't the Northern Scene's of today just one big living time capsule? I heard a rumour that the new series of Life On Mars were going to film some scenes in some of the oldies venues to ensure they got the 70's look totally authentic!
  5. I don't think you could call it a truly great soul record but it's a F****ng fantastically great Northern Soul record, one of the greatest and sorry Epic mate I don't think your rarity argument holds on this, it has a dance floor reaction unlike many other records, majority of whom are unaware of any rarity as they stampede past anyone in their way to get to the dancefloor, I truly believe if you don't get this you don't get Northern Soul, in one of my opinionated statements. Closely followed by the Parliaments Rainy Day for the best dancefloor reaction as an unknown/semi known, and it still has it now years and years later. It probably is my generations Job Opening to be honest for Northern Soul
  6. https://www.soul-source.co.uk/rare-northern...o-me-mercury-lp I assume you mean this one, fantastic version with Sam Dees crawling over it, however as much as I love Esther's version Loleatta Holloway is unbeatable for me,
  7. Okay putting my records in some sort of semblance in my box managed to crack my Voices Of East Harlem - Cashing In by just moving some records with it, this is the third copy I have cracked in my collecting years, first one lasted me for 20 years with b-side taped but its really the b-side I want it for now so not such a great idea. Anyone got one out there, PM as usual, Also anyone got a Dionne Warwick - Then Came You original LP, one I have never got around to getting so interested in one. PM me again. Have a few other LP wants that I can't think of at moment, will add them tomorrow which will hopefully also bump this. Cheers Jock
  8. Am I missing something here, what is wrong with feeding the very site we are on now with the memories, seems as good a place as any and deserving of support considering the free advertising you all get. Is this not more than a little cheeky, or am I being a little crazy?
  9. Pretty sure the old Blackbeat had a Lou Ragland feature and a good one by John Smith, so maybe Steve G will remember if mentioned, assuming his memory hasn't gone with his new age
  10. I actually thought you were referring to a horrible dancing doll of James Brown I seen in Urban Outfitters in US a few years ago, sure they will have made it over here! Your cred is back intact Matt!
  11. Thirded, this is one of my favourite LP's of all time. This track was a monster back at Shotts, thats about 20 years ago and it probably still gets played out, several times I would imagine, every weekend, quite amazing when you think of it, in both a bad way and a good way I suppose!
  12. Oi you two less of the mutual admiration society and get on with finding more like this Sounds pretty good, seen it over on EMS and its on Giant Step from NY I believe, a truly eclectic label which some would argue (or should be that I would!) is the "real" sound of "real" soul for 2008!! Only slightly holding him back is he sounds very like Jahiem and he is the real governor of "real" soul 2008 for me, IMVHO obviously! Forgot to add link to some more sound samples below https://www.giantstep.net/releases/2181
  13. Most dealers will just assume from that you want to pay more Joan....... I would like to change the start and end oh and the middle bit of Bob & Fred to play silent, either that or change the run out grooves to smooth so you couldn't get a needle over it. Not sure if thats what you meant but it will make me happy for the evening
  14. I am afraid reading this again it seems, like most of the thread starters threads, its more about him, and how clever he is than any real tangible issue. Everyone knows currently, thanks to on here mainly, the crap that seems to be going on about rival soul nights, although the why is another issue, unless you are going to be specific then there is no point on this other than my assumption above. I dont know anyone involved in this so have no real axe to grind, your opening statements about mental health and comparisons to this situation are not only irrelevant they are indefensible and in my opinion exactly the kind of tabloid statement made too frequently about mental health that is quite frankly abhorrent. The fact you have actually worked in the field makes your actions really quite horrendous, I am only thankful you appear to have no current influence on any such service And before you come on with some defence of yourself, consider how relevant the use of the word crazy is in the context of mental health, this whole thing is totally inappropriate.
  15. Arrived nicely today, from Crazy Beat of all places, pretty cheap. but not as cheap as it would have been 2 f****g weeks ago as it was quoted in dollars. Jeez wish I had looked at the exchange rate! And yes the Chess LP is outstanding, picked that up thanks to the great taste of GarethX, think there are a couple of tracks on Refosoul, should probably by the CD as well, although with the sad news of both the Briggs passing, as too often for soul legends its too late to pay them back,
  16. Hi Trev, had a thought and had a dig through an old box with some Atlantic general stuff in it and hey presto it was there, on US its released as the other side of Devil Woman, a George Jackson song, not the one by the straightest gay man Mr Richards, obviously bought it long time ago and didn't appeal to my tastes!!! So some other soul can benefit from Trevs very generous offer. As an aside played the Patches LP which has this on as an LP track and there are at least 4 other great tracks, including a Sam Dees written Changing. Will post it up tommorrow.
  17. You really are in danger of losing your reputation as that grumpy man from the record bar with comments like that Rod! I think the "Modern" scene (the "new modern" scene rather than the "old modern" scene, but also the "old modern scene" to be honest) has millions of records better than that, and Jazzanova, who I would suspect would not feature in many peoples definition of soul etc have many better records themselves, which was really Mark Randles point I think that sailed over many peoples heads in the Rapheal Sadiq thread. However to be fair Rod I think "Northern" people of a certain "persuasion" like records like this, which I assume is Andys point. James "Jock" O'Connor
  18. Missed it but heard good things, think he is touring here again soon. Supposed to be fantastic live His CD is very very good, and in reality much better than lots of the retro stuff getting touted around. As Reg said think he is on here so when he gets back to States he may comment https://www.amazon.co.uk/Roll-You-Eli-Paper...3045&sr=8-1
  19. And both sides of the Polydor single as well as the Mavis Staples version are on refosoul, put there by some handsome sod with great taste. Did try and link them to here but can't get the link thing to work, in a bit of a dash. Was going to say actually we should ask anyone who doesn't have the Arista 45 to put their hands up, and then should get a hard rap across the knuckles!! Fantastic soul that every soul fan should own, remember when this was a monster out as well, can't see that happening again. early Southport days was its height for me. Just bought another one by her on GWP with Hesitations, bit of a show track but you can't lose here voice, fantastic singer, maybe the greatest!!!!
  20. I'll take that off you young man, sure I can sort out a similarly cheap but wonderful double to pay back, About to upload the LP version I have, I also have about 4 copies of the US version that I keep buying and forgetting its not on that one!!
  21. And more to the point I would love a copy of this LP at a reasonable price, would be your friend for life!!!
  22. Thats why I said I was genuinely curious Jordi, I wasn't saying anything wrong, just really interested. To be honest hadn't even thought of the moving things on, I am a bit slow tonight.
  23. If you can get me one on Wheelsville I will have a spare on Wee Three for a very reasonable price!!
  24. I am really curious about that statement, what do you mean by a collector and why do you buy such records then. I am being serious whenI say I am curious and not interested in any of the usual rabble kicking off here, I am genuinely interested in what Nev means by this, Cheers Jock
  25. Dee Dee Sharp Bottle Or Me, one of the finest records ever, will stick up a soundfile tomorrow if its not snapped up, and shame on you something different lot out there if its not snapped up!!!
