  1. Buy the bloody Marc Evans CD and shut up and move on from this please, the next Michael Procter/Joi Cardwell being played solidly for the next 10 years in every village hall around the country I predict. Just find this bizarre in the extreme. Oh and if anyone is interested my understanding is same as Marc's they are all same band with different mixes. Any chance of some Broken Beat stuff getting mixed in with this in near future............. PS go to www.firstexperiencerecords.com click on Simply Soul mail order and you will hear lots of this stuff if you really want to, lots of similar to Ron Hall but fresh, sure Mark will welcome you with open arms.
  2. And was it not a group of women that were supposed to working at the place!! Did you not lift Ion bodily out once re the record thief incident ?? Have you been taking tips of your new DJ employee re blanket marketing with all the threads or are you just bored today!
  3. I think the word why has dropped off the title................
  4. Discogs is notoriously not complete Ian, not sure how it gets updated, i.e. sellers only or in house but especially for older stuff its very rarely complete.
  5. Dave Lee generally does release (or did until relatively recently) everything on limited issue vinyl, why dont you drop Mark a note at Simply Soul, as he generally will have stocked all this stuff at some point and he could probably tell you if it did and if he has one lying around,
  6. Contact Paul Mooney on here for Black Grape, he is still in touch with the owner I think and may be able to help. I do have these as well as loads of B&S from then, but they are in someones loft at the moment, let me know if the mags are any good and I can try and retrieve them. Good luck.
  7. You are an absolute star Mr D, can you order back issues on same number? I probably want to order all of last years so it should be worth while!! Well done mate.
  8. Did anyone manage to get a recording of last weeks interview?? If not I will ask Dean and see if we can get it loaded up here, I will speak to him later. And in keeping with the Rob Marriot theme so far Dean just played Marvin Gayes version of Sunny, which Rob had cut off CD, and it still sounds immense, and now Four Tops version of Lonely Lover, good taste this boy!
  9. Okay that time again, no beautiful sounding American guests this time (that was Eula not you Mick!) but just Dean's slick style and great taste, about to start on a Detroit theme with an unissued Brenda Holloway track so get in there. If you are struggling to get in use the link on listen part to Windows Media Player rather than the Web player, it always connects better for me
  10. If you find two mate let me know, another one I have been meaning to pick up and never got round to (before I stop buying, honest injuns!)
  11. Okay you could have me on that one, only went to a couple of Crofties Cleethorpes dos as they seemed the ends of the Earth then, Rotherham via Manchester (the only train route for us then) involved having to take the afternoon off so Cleethorpes seemed a bridge too far (still does when I think about it!). ALl these venues sort of run into one time span for me, would be interested to have dates on them all, I often forget Rotherham had been going for a year before I first went, as only went the month after the Casino closed (or to be more accurate the month after its first last night as that was the only one I went to!!) Your impending sentence to a retirement home has been postponed for now, we can carry this on at Essence!! See you mate, maybe you should ring Bully and make sure he went to bed after his 5.41am appearance on here this morning. Okay off to insulate my loft while listening to Junior Walker, was supposed to start 40 minutes ago but Betty Wright has been flirting with me aurally since then.
  12. I assume you are hoping for a quickie divorce. I would try David Nathan's site, www.soulmusic.com, if he doesn't have one he will know if there is one available I would think. Cheers
  13. 99.99999% sure it was Steve Croft at Rotherham, Sean disagrees and normally I bow down to his memory but this time the senility and the whisky has got the better of him!! I definitely remember buying one off Crofty at Rotherham for £10 which sounds very Steve, when Sean and everyone else was obviously buying them for 80p. Sounds great now and funnily enough I just recorded it this week so will put a clip up in a minute or two.
  14. That would also make sense Mel as I was going to say I thought Ivor Jones did something under that banner, but he would probably have dj's at the Pheonix, I remember seeing Stuart Cosgrove dancing to some funky stuff at the Pheonix Ivor is on here so can probably remember. Binsy et al should also remember. The warehouse ones are definitely right, I remember going to one and seeing some very strange people at these and that was just Ion and his mates.
  15. Pretty sure it was Keb Darge, certainly around Stafford time, fantastic record and I have always thought pretty rare on the red. Just went looking for my blue copy and can't find the little bugger, anyone got sound clip of the blue version, I think I used to like it in its own right but ages since I played it. I certainly got the blue one of Soul Bowl Mel, as I thought I had bought the Red one not knowing there was a difference Doh!
  16. LIke lots of people from back then I assume he just got fed up going out every week as the quality of the music and the do's diminished rapidly as the 90's drew in, whatever reason he deserves his place in the NS DJ Hall Of Fame if there is such a thing, as he was around when it was harder to do it the right way (for me) and played more relative unknowns in his time at top of tree than many other more revered names. Whatever he was also a top bloke, hats off to him, seen him a few years back and he was as funny and as much a top bloke as ever. Sold all his records, so vultures can stand down.
  17. That starts to make sense Ady, Guy was playing the much inferior Cleveland Robinson was he not?? One of my many nearly finds only to find I had been well beaten, again!! Hope its the usual top night tonight, can't make next month either, plans afoot to make every one from April though, if only for the family Sunday lunch which I think should be compulsorary after every one. See you soon
  18. Hope you are well Mr Hudson, sound files over this weekend. Pretty sure when it was played in the 80's it was played as an unissued track, I found it in the states about 84 thinking I had a one off just for everyone to say no loads now around! Not sure where the unissued bit came, Mr Croasdell any comments or is it my memory again!
  19. What scene were you on from 79 to 94 Epic? There was virtually no oldies scene then for us, especially once Wigan shut, what a strange comment. Re the playlists etc etc what a huge amount of time to spend on something so worthless and meaningless....... except to us saddos. Can't wait to read it and let the debates spring, cmon Mel get working, you have an audience whose breath couldn't be more bated. Oh and I suppose I should apologise to you Mel for thinking you were Mr Levine in disguise when you first landed, you have almost become likeable (only almost )
  20. An interesting theory, I am too young to know that Rod, but last nights show really did confirm that didn't it, very dissapointing, you just hope it was bad selection rather than lack of material but seems not. Soul Deep etc do not look so bad in comparison now do they.........
  21. Dean has asked me to post that he has Eula Cooper live interview on the show tonight. The show is 8-10 as usual and Eula Cooper will be on around 8.45. I think a few people had problems logging on last week, the show has limited bandwidth so the message is get on early and stay on. So not only do you get Deans unbelievably proffessional presentation style, his great taste in music you will hear about the legend that is Eulah Cooper, be there or be the only one not listening surely!

  23. Okay Tim I will trust you on this, if you still have it mate can you hold it, I will have a look at the whole list tonight and let you know if I want anything else. Cheers Jock PS The Spoilers on GMC is bargain of the week so far, maybe month, I dont think you see it very much, too great sides with Something About You being a fantastic dancer, old Rod Shard/Dave Withers c/u (Imaginary Visions????) and it still sounds as good as it did back then. Being played out by all the best Scottish dj's called Jock!
  24. I've got this at home, will try and put up a sound clip later. To be honest would suggest its a bit more drum and bass rather than jazz, I do quite like it, but its a bit lame from memory. Probably haven't listened to it for a few years mind.
  25. Just sent it over, let me know if not good enough quality,
