  1. Chalky I would be interested in this, just running through just now, will phone you later (catch up on the 3 phone calls I owe you!)
  2. As soon as you said it I doubted myself, its a WD of You Got What It Takes I have, a great tune in its own right. Never realised VLD didnt come out on US, and more annoying looks like I have gave away the various UK copies I have as I can only find it on LP, one more box to try.....
  3. Time Is Right had quite a few I seem to remember, they also used to sell at Southport, I agree about the 45, too much of a coincidence, although as you say if re-issued by Gene makes it as kosher as anything surely. Great LP, one I never picked up as always at that time you thought I'll get that next time..........
  4. Great record and remember it well from then, although I thought I had it on a US prelude WD, you now have me doubting that Sean, will check when I get in. Andy D, sure I will have an extra of this on 7" or 12", Allan's in Portobello had about 12 of the UK copies, mostly demos at one point, text me tonight and I will check, if I have you can have it for the price of a pint (and 12 of your golf lessons maybe !!)
  5. I don't remember it being covered up but I certainly bought it for about £1.25 about 1980/81, I always thought it was a bootleg to be honest as seems a strange combination. Maybe John can shed some light.
  6. I have this on a single sided pink issue, pretty sure it doesn't say anything about demo, always wondered what I was missing on other side. Will scan it tonight if you are interested.
  7. I would third it, but would raise it with Larry Clinton intro, just menacing music, clarion call to create a space on dancefloor, Off to bed music recording finished. Gnight!
  8. In the United States, what are now known as cadences were called jody call or jody (also jodie) from a recurring character, a civilian named "Jody" whose luxurious lifestyle is contrasted with military deprivations in a number of traditional calls. The mythical Jody refers to a civilian who remains at home instead of joining the military service. Jody is often presumed to be medically unfit for service, a 4F in World War II parlance. Jody also lacks the desirable attributes of military men. He is neither brave nor squared-away. Jody calls often make points with ironic humor. Jody will take advantage of your girlfriend in your absence. Jody stays at home, drives the soldier's car, and gets the soldier's sweetheart (often called "Susie") while the soldier is in boot camp or in country.[citation needed] (Serendipitously, the name works just as well for female soldiers.) Above from Wikipedia, just think of songs like Johnny Taylors with Jody mentioned and think you will get the picture.
  9. I really dont know what you mean by rare soul, its a term that confuses me on here . People seem to be able to tell if a record is rare just by its sound, bizarre, If you are saying you dont like the stuff the people I have listed are playing then I suspect we are on different scenes, no big deal, we just probably view things in a different way, live and let live and all that....... (even though my opinion is always right )
  10. I am really not sure, I just know that in the States these days the "re-issue" stuff is everywhere, anyone else got views on whether they are kosher or not?
  11. I think it is more interesting what/who people consider as big name DJ's, what sort of stuff do they play?? To me big names are Butch, Andy D, Mick H, Ady C, Kitch etc etc (okay small names when you type them out but big sounds ) , I suspect they are not the same as many people on here mean. To me they are or should be big names as they play records other people cant or wouldn't, and not records that have just been recycled or rare, which is what it is surely all about, and when you think about it surely there is no other choice if you are into the music, Am I really getting it so wrong.................
  12. Quite the opposite Mr Bouges, almost every LP has been reissued in a very close look alike sleeve and label etc, I have always assumed they are boots but am using re-issue to be polite!! Seriously LP's are now a nightmare trying to figure out what is real or otherwise. The !2" is a more interesting question as there are lots of Boogie 12"'s that sell for a fortune, so assume there must be some bootleg equivalent but not sure actually, an interesting question. In NY you always find strange looking 12"'s that I always assume are boots but to be honest I do not know about these. Yes that was the white label mix that was only released on the double pack promo that was so hard to find until Mr Kerr found about 6 of them in a shop in Musselburgh, one of which I have nestling nicely on the shelves, I think the original boot was changing hands for scary money at the time. Back in the day
  13. Jeez, something I agree almost (only almost) 100% with you RW, and something unbelievably sensible leaving your lips about NS, it must be a blue moon and an eclipse rolled into one!!! Only thing is like Mr Byrne says we were first with the name so not sure about giving it away but given the negative connotations with Northern tag these days, probably a price worth paying to end this debate for ever! Amen I'm not sure about people abusing all being one sided, not even sure that is not too strong, surely an alternative view is its people defending what they see as retaining values and an integral part of something many people have been involved in for years? However I do agree it is such a boring and pointless debate now, you either get it or you don't (and most Scousers never seem to have got it Roger so do not worry, its probably genetic ) and its just crazy for this debate to continue in my opinion. I think your comment on the people sharing a love of the music is interesting, not sure everyone does, I think there are an awful lot of people today who are more interested in DJ status and the "scene" rather than the actual music, from both sides of this argument. Nowt as strange as folk part 2! I thought Rod Shard made a great and interesting point recently, about should we not be more interested in hearing fresh sounds than getting embroiled in this debate, in many ways that would actually define the format. I have seen some playlists on here, OV no doubt, that are still playing the same big ticket records that were hammered 20 odd years ago which in my opinion is a far bigger crime to any scene. There are definitely too many people thinking a big ticket record is the answer, regardless of how often it's been played out over years. Surely the criteria should be (a) Quality - essential regardless (b ) Fresh - essential for progressive do's (c ) rare - nice to have, scarce at time of playing probably more important, therefore we need lots of cover ups! Combine this with a cull of DJ's, there will then be less venues and advertise them as fresh or not fresh (AKA smelly) problem solved! Is it that difficult!!!
  14. Surely the answer is they once met on the dancefloor slapping high 5's while having a great time, where now they seem to meet at some darkened crossroads where some dodgy dealing has to be done before you can mix the 2!! Evolution not Revolution I seem to remember someone using as a slogan, at current rate of evolution records from the 80's should hit the current scene about 2075, when only the 2 15 year old DJ's will be alive!" As an aside I do think it quite amusing the number of crossover/modern bits that seem to be springing up out of recent converts and playlists consist of records that were so hammered 20 years ago they have become todays forgotten sounds, a bit of irony in there methinks , that and they fact they seem to be favouring cheesy sounds closer to Benny Troy than Bobby Womack makes me look forward to the evolving scene...............!
  15. Oii join the cue John
  16. YOu dont know the name of the CD do you Dave? You don't have or know of anyone who has any of the Charly LP's do you, wouldn't mind getting the couple I don't have back. Found me any more P-Vine deep soul LP's yet?
  17. Is this the stuff that Charly did 5 LP's off? Fantastic stuiff that unfortunately I only have 2 or 3 LP's left, some great unissued stuff on it. Did any of this ever come out on CD does anyone know?
  18. Mike sorry it wasn't really meant as a comment on moderation, I was just trying to highlight what a pain this thread must be for you and the difficult position you are in, as I think people often forget that when mouthing off on here. To be honest I would prefer if it was left, or at least the first part as that was a direct response to Malc's comments on here and I felt strongly enough to comment. I certainly do not want to cause you any hassle on this but for me I felt some of the comments coming from Malc/Iain were so one sided that I felt necessary to comment. I won't comment any more on this however, no matter what is said. I really do not envy your job on here!!
  19. If you don't like Bullies stop trying to bully people and stop using that histrionic Fascist analogy that you seem to think wins sympathy, all it does is show how poorly you use your education. It is a disgraceful analogy to use, even though you always do. I articulated my reasons for my opinion more than clearly, and have asked some questions that I am sure Malc can answer for himself. Yet again you do not like them so you try and ram your opinion home. Thank you for proving the exact points I was making better than any words. If anyone should be apologising it should be Malc of all people for using the analogy in the first place as it shows scant disrespect for people who have really suffered from Fascism, and I know some Italians personally who will happily share some real stories with you, and it shows little knowledge of real history. Sadly it is only too typical of the level of one sided debate on here. I have no interest in this any further Ian, you show your true colours each time something is said, I did so with no bias towards either side, I am just fed up of the facts being distorted on here. At the end of the day as I say all this thread continuues to do is hurt the artists you claim to care so deeply about.
  20. You are either taking the piss or this is the most ironic post on SS ever. Some would say that is exactly what Iain does because he won't accept any other view of his work or his self. It is a very good analogy and to me is the exact reason why I haven't bothered to even listen or consider any of Iains recent work and as someone who I assume buys more contemporary music than a large chunk of people on here, including some of Iains previous work, I would be interested in what Iain does as contemporary music. I only come in this thread for the car crash reasons that James correctly described as the majorities reason for coming here. I very rarely bother to listen to stuff because of his behaviour on here, Just because James has now behaved equally badly at times does not make it right, Your blind acceptance and one sided view of everything Iain says and does on here has lowered many peoples consideration of you Malc, I can only assume there is some level of self interest in this. I am not sticking up for James, I told him recently to his face he should leave it as it it isn't really doing him any favours, but I sort of understand why he doesn't. He has been treated very badly and everyone just ignores that. As he says Iain seems to be allowed in your eyes and others to say what he wants, purely because of who he was. Just doesn't add up, some of the vitriol and threats from that side are just unacceptable. Iain calls anyone who says his stuff is crap dreadful names but he then proceeds to do the same about Kings Go Forth product just because James was involved in playing their record, what sort of double standards is that, do you think thats acceptable Malc? The people I feel most sorry for are Mike who has to deal with this constant crap and the constant carping from Ian, he has been put in an impossible situation and also the artists, who are losing out, yet again. There are a couple of interesting articles in this months Manifesto about artists that have worked with Ian. Its obvious from conversations with people I am not the only one who has said they wont buy the product because of behaviours on here. As has been said before this is just a huge sales pitch that will go away once that is over, ironically it has probably been the most counter productive sales pitch ever.
  21. Great shout Joe, SHOUT did an excellent McKinley Mitchell One-der-ful one CD so not sure if there would be enough even from that period for a good CD, but agree would love to hear all HB's output. I have always been under impression that HB also recorded as Stacey Johnson but can't find that evidenced anywhere, have I just made that up? On spot as usual Mr S. Great CD which I think was put together with help of the very knowledgable Mr Box on here. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lonely-Heart-City-...3273&sr=1-1 I assume the Johnny Bristol stuff has been issued as straight re-issues. Think TSMGO is being or has recently been re-issued finally but for more of Mr Dees work you can't go past these 2 brilliant CD's, lots of the tracks I think are demos but still sound fantastic to my ear. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Second-None-Sam-De...ks_all_1#disc_1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Heritage-Black-Man...ks_all_1#disc_1 I currently only have the empty cases for the above 2 so if I have left them with any of you after a long weekend I want them back pleeeaaaaseee. Re Wales Wallace, does anyone have a full discography of his stuff, I have a few and all excellent but not sure how many he actually did. Separate thread if preferred for that okay with me,
  22. Okay my heartstrings are dully tugged.... but I repeat its Friday and I am grumpy and this was an easy target. Believe it or not I think I may actually have it at home, god knows why, if so will post it on Sunday in the 6ts soul thread, just so I do not get tricked into another bump here..........
  23. Its Friday and I am grumpy so this seemed an easy target............ Because I am inside his old place of work trying to keep my head down and avoid the swinging blades.............although should say its easier than avoidng the gutter press, they are all over here and the City, scumballs Right I am off to get happy before I return, honest.
  24. Well you did put it up here so assume you were after some literary criticism, and it is no classic in the literary sense you would surely admit, I doubt very much any publication would see fit to publish this, maybe why its here....... I actually think its a reasonable view from anyone outside the Northern scene, lots to disagree on for me but to be honest its all been done before and much better. It is to be fair a reasonable opinion of where things are today, just not a very correct opinion IMHO obviously! But why you think sticking it on a predominately Northern forum it wouldn't get flak is beyond me and to be honest its been quite light on the expected criticism so far. You do spoil it slightly with the rather poor disco points above, surely that makes you just as blinkered as the Northern people you so strongly condemn. I just don't understand what you expect to get out of and why you are being so defensive, surely you could only expect an argument. I did wonder if you were our antipodean Brother over for a wind up. If not it does seem more than a little egotistical just sticking up an article with no background or introduction when in concept its critisizing heavily the community you are asking to read it,. Anyway, welcome!
  25. I have absolutely nothing to say on this, just thought the rest of the world would welcome a fresh name guilty of inanely bumping this thread. I think we get the message boys, sure you will have a great time, but it is 8 months away, not even IL could keep up this shameful self promotion could he........
