  1. Oi you Mr H stop talking about this new fangled stuff, it can't be soul, and answer my Bill Brandon question on other thread (by PM), I can't PM from work to remind you!! And Dodger wash your mouth out with soap, there are at least 2 great tracks on each CD which make them compulsory in my view, and I am pretty sure it was you who recommended the first for me...........
  2. Mods, how more off topic can this go, to Freebasing with it and don't spare the horses.
  3. Very dodgy logic, even for a Western fan like you. I am not going to try and tell you about music, you are one of the people who has genuinely forgotten more about it than most of us will ever know, but regardless of above statement he, and millions of others like him, talented or not, have f*** all to do with soul music, as you very well know. You liking him will never change that. If you want to debate the meaning of soul, outwith the very well documented musical genre, no matter what you say this is not the place for it. In my very humble opinion, of course, which just happens to be right this time I can't keep up with all the soul stuff I want to listen to or read about, it may make me a bad person, it definitely makes me a soul snob and proud of it, but thats why I only come to a couple of soul forums as that is always what I want to discuss and listen to. Lots of other places you can go, and I genuinely agree he is a talent, but this shouldn't be one of them. So put your cowboy hat on, stick that in your pipe and smoke it, this gentleman is not for turning and you know I am right. Feel free to name me in one of your non-soul liner notes as a heretic, any sort of recognition does it for me.
  4. Gabriel Garcia Marquez and A.L. Kennedy probably have more soul than any living (or dead) human beings, they don't make soul music or anything remotely connected with this genre of music so I don't expect to discuss them here. I truly despair sometimes, what is the world coming to.
  5. Do you have spare one Sean? I thought I seen something on other thread but lost track, maybe interested if you do, although sure you are aware I went to the Tats Taylor school of pricing records, I am his star pupil! Seriously let me know, I am kinda stopped buying at moment but what the other half doesnt know........
  6. Got that one, would like the other one, but for a lot less than the number you quoted.
  7. Yes I would defo consider it Northern, in fact I am off to look for and take it to Cleggy to spin upstairs on Saturday, Diamond one worth a spin too, okay not straight ahead Northern, but some would say the obsession with formula NS has killed the fun And am I missing something re the WD Sean? Give me a ring if you have one mate, although would depend on current price, I am a poor banker after all!!
  8. Yes cmon Frank, that and a label scan, least you can do if you are selling I think.....

I suspect this thread blows my chance of getting this for a tenner then! Have been looking for this since Val "Chunky Monkey" put me onto this, one of the many and not seen it around to be honest , but then not been looking to hard for 45's due to the glut of cheap LP's out there, I love cheap records! Anyway I digress, is there an LP with this on? Seen 3 singles by them so wondered....... If so anyone got a cheap copy? Failing that happy to remove an unwanted and cheap 45 off someones hands, quick before the rush starts!
  10. Oi could people stop talking this up till I get my £30 copy, still waiting........ Marc, I actually meant everyone but you mate, including myself!! Its great fun watching you bat them all down, you show typical German honesty, while we are all happy to lie through our teeth to get the records cheaper. Just picking up on Phil's comment, who coincidentally has just sold one I believe but okay I will stretch to £300, someone better take it down, sure I heard someone has a box of them under their bed somewhere!! Yes and I gave one away, this was never really rare was it Simon? How about some of your one or two offs that you keep very quiet about!
  11. I am assuming that this is a wind up, not sure what is worse this or Nev's link to a Motown knock up done in pub singer style al la Reeves & Mortimer
  12. As Barry is on here I would imagine they are no longer available although sure Sir John will admit he sometimes gets his pricing wrong rather than the other way around, go-on Barry give us one for £2!!
  13. Phil start with some easier problems like eradicating Thirld World poverty, creating peace in the Middle East, understanding a drunk Mickey Cruise, it may save any hair you have left.
  14. Good points mate, I suspect their is an attempted talk down of some prices on here to try and get the records they want, I support that heartily if that is the case. And since Magnetics on RaSel is so common, but debatable here, I will bust the bank (still waiting on my Bill Brandon, cmon someone must want to get rid before the next deluge appears) and go to £200, which is £170 more than I paid for my last copy, bloody inflation!
  15. Ooh do like that (Cmon Mr K stop being a lazy bugger and get that on Refosoul before one of the mods comes along with an electric shock for you!), sorry Marc, don't remember it but heard so much new stuff there, think was in main room for most of your set but there was also lots of that lovely alcohol!!
  16. I am pretty sure it had at least some plays back in the Original Thorne days, then I did hear Rainbow Road for the first time at Thorne, imagine playing that out now!! Also think I may have heard it at Lifeline weekend but certainly not a big play. Another one proving that quality doesn't always win!! Oi you, just cause I disagreed in another thread, stop ruining my chance of getting this at Scottish price.
  17. And thanks for proving one of my points, Miff didn't make any comment nor did I, about the CD, it was about the scene being so overground that its used as an advertising campaign at peak time TV. As usual the same tired old arguments about new blood etc etc, proving very few people actually read these bloody things before they answer. Can someone actually prove this leads people on to Darrell Banks etc etc, I would say its more likely to have another 500 people buying this CD and half a dozen others with same old records on, then starting up another 500 soul nights that only play the same 250 records they already have on their 6 CD's. They will go everywhere, or at least everywhere within a 2 mile radius, keeping their faith for about 3 years and then they will retire leaving the scene to the next batch of "new blood" before selling these CD's second hand on ebay, killing the demand for any new product. Is that really what you call creating a healthy market for sharing the music? If you dont think thats a problem for a scene good luck to you, I repeat I hope you and the Nostalgia scene live very happily together. Its not my Northern scene and I reserve the right to moan about it. And before I get accused of various crimes against the artists, I buy almost all new re-release CD's that come out, and buy them new. However I really struggle to see what relevance this sort of thing has to an already overcrowded sector of the market. When it comes to this (which I repeat the original argument was not about) then I agree the only relevant comments on this are Ady's and Paul's as at least they put their money where their mouth is where promoting soul music is, and know what is going but can you really both defend this, do you really think this will increase the audience. Do artists really make a lot (any?) money out of this or does it just get fed back to the companies paying small fees for the material. I really don't know the answer and am not being smart but I have to admit to always being very cynical about stuff like this. Whatever the answer to any of this should we not get a bit more united and be more concerned however with promoting the Soulscape.Grapevine etc releases which are surely more likely to increase the audience for quality soul?? Maybe I am just niave. Miff you gave in too easy mate, you were still right!!
  18. So is the famous SBS with John Ellison? Any chance of a soundclip, thought I had most of their stuff but never heard this, or even heard of it. Can someone post a soundclip. Is it one of their early discs?
  19. I love the title of this thread, another Mr X classic!! And can I just say long may it continue, nowhere near enough de-rarified for me yet!! And as for Bill Brandon on tower, does this mean I can get one for £30 please, will take the first offer, remember it will probably be about a tenner in a few months thanks to the power of E-Bay....... When the Quinvy one comes along let me know, I will stretch to £50 on that.......................
  20. Have noticed that 12" selling for a bit, wonder why. Would have thought more demand for Take It To The Limit, but assume that was a bigger hit. Buy the following album and get that track and get a number of other brilliant tracks, a greatest hits yes but an original one so obviously allowed in everyones collection, nay compulsory in everyones collection. https://www.discogs.com/Norman-Connors-The-...release/1226242
  21. Probably been answered, but other side is When You Play You Gotta Pay, even better in my option, but probably needs pitched up at +36 for todays fan. Both sides are on Refosoul, tried to copy it but couldn't work out the new Refosoul!! Off to tech questions.
  22. https://www.discogs.com/sell/list?master_id=50480&ev=mb Search the same site and you will find all 3 labels its on, anyone paying more than a tenner for stuff like this needs to get a new therapist!!
  23. Sorry Brian but some of your statements make absolutely no sense at all, what nighters did you go to between 79 and 96 that were so overground everyone knew about. I assume what you meant is everyone at your work has heard of Wigan Casino 74-77 and the British Legion type revival of the last few years. The current nostalgia scene is getting exactly what it deserves, in both people and music, hope they are very happy togther. You are not alone in your dislike Miff, there is still a decent amount of people agree, I, like most, just generally can't be assed with arguing the toss these days as it seems to be who shouts loudest with little facts in their argument gets most attention round here (and that is a general comment, not aimed at anyone on this thread, as yet....)
  24. The Frank Cooper I assume you mean Les Cooper Motor City? If so always had a soft spot for this, will put sound clip up if not already there.
