When did you last go to an all nighter? Put the beer down and step away from the keyboard, you will thank yourself in the morning old bean! And you have just made that whole one of us up. Stop making an even bigger cock of yourself than usual,

So are you telling me Martin Scorsese wasn't a Boxer, comedian, taxi driver, gangster English gent and physcopath, I feel robbed! Almost as daft an idea as a real ale drinking grumpy English man writing about Delta Blues really.....

What a pile of pish. If you really think this will cause the downfall of any part of any decent scene then you are even more stupid than you sound so far. Go on provide some meat to the very bare bones you are bashing around. You have been giving it large with your cryptic comments on here, and your very non cryptic comments on FB as some spokesman for the integrity of scene. Really. Delusions of granduer, ego and all about you are all I hear from you to date. That and a whole load of personal nastiness, at least untill you blocked me despite us never having communicated in any manner at all. Why don't you be less cryptic and have the balls to say what you mean, then I can shoot you down, save the fish in the barrel next to my desk that are getting rarer than a genuine comment from you. Surely the site deserves the pearls of your wisdom, the inside information that you keep blasting, the personal comments that are so little known that only you seem to know them. No surprise there. Go on, surprise me. Another f***ing wannabee trying to get his 15 seconds of fame on the back of someone else, is what the evidence points to here.

Its that Ian Dewhirst's fault, obviously! Oh and that Croasdell fella, rumour has it he is always pushing the stuff. Why cant they let us virtual people change the world, virtually.

Well since I am almost home to my beloved Edinburgh after a very short visit to my beloved London it pleases me immensely not to grant you your wish. Although mobile doesn't work particularly well either at my workplace or my house may be enough to get you slightly excited, always dangerous at your age, however here in the real world we have things called tablets and computers when phone doesn't work. To be honest, based on Milliband thread I could go away for a month and nothing new would have been said, although Mr Clangers recent impersonation of William Burroughs has been interesting.

Stop it you bastards I am on train with you tube bloacked and dying to listen to these! Stop now.

So based on that logic you know Lisa Stanfield very well to make such a viscous attack on her ego? As for opportunity lost, its been flying around every social media it could do since a number of things this morning, so again it doesn't seem to have impacted it, I have updates from a number of mediums at 20 times the recent rate, and even Mikes mums dancing in her slippers round the valleys to it, thinking ah thats what my nice boy Michael did when on leave (don't let her see the whole thing Mike, you may get about 20 years of grounding backdated). How much wider do you think it would have got if it had not been for Lisa's savage ego? So yes you are entitled to your opinion, just like i am entitled to challenge it with mines. You were incredibly harsh, and from my experience incredibly wrong about Lisa Stansfield being some sort of ego maniac. So I stand by my opinion, like a lot of people I am fed up of some the statements where people seem to be more interested in making it about them, and interestingly following it with their length of service. Although I will congratulate you on having being doing all-nighters for 45 years, way more than me. Credit where credits due, it just doesn't give you special rights over views on a film, sadly. And we have met, and spoken at least 3 or 4 times with a Wilton via Andy Dyson, and via Gavin Page who one suggested me for your room at Essence to you. I do have to reintroduce myself each time, so maybe my fragile ego, which I am well aware I have, is a bit battered and bruised, and made me harsher than I should have been. Maybe not.

Bonnie Pointer - Heaven Must Have Sent You ? 7"
jocko replied to Wiganer1's topic in Look At Your Box
And was a play of Mr Winstanley last years of Wigan, he played a few newish British Motown things, Mary Wilson etc. Hopefully enough to kill it stone dead before its revived. Much better track on the LP, can't remember the title, but not one of the multitude of cover versions she murdered, like this one. Sorry -
Thats just far too harsh. Lisa Stanfield has been a great supporter of Elaine all the way through, mentioning the film at all interviews about her LP, unconnected interviews on chat shows, as did Ricky Tomlinson, and turning up to a whole load of social events that pretty sure she had other things she could be at. All above and beyond what most film people seem to do for Cameo roles. And both have been massively complimentary about the film, and arguably they might know just a little more about good films than you or I. Do you not think having people like Lisa Stanfield sitting beside Elaine on a couch will open much deserved doors for publicity. And before you give me some pish about the integrity of publicity go and read the hassle Elaine has had on getting this distributed, and how much work they have had to do to get it to this position. Single handedly in some cases. So if Lisa says something that impacts one or two hard core followers, not sure thats such a big problem. If you need to get your views on that sort of stuff from BBC and other mainstream channels, not sure its just Lisa that has got it wrong. More moaning by stealth. Something our scene is fantastic at. Thankfully its unlikely to impact on the numbers. Just another ego filled rant to me at a fairly obvious target as Lisa is to some soul fans.

WTF are you talking about Tim, you are being completely irrational on this, one minute you are saying people will swamp the venues and the other you are moaning about people going to the film on scooters but never going to venues, which is it thats bothering you? If you think "the scene" hasn't been dumbed down beyond belief in the last 10 years then you have your head in a box, If you think that these tourists are suddenly going to discover Lifeline and other venues you attend, you are barking mad. And if you care the nostalgia scene and the circus venues are going to be swamped by tourists/normal people.fuckwits, isnt it already, then why do you keep slagging that scene. This film will have little impact on the scene you attend. The current mod upsurge is much more likely to do so, and is that any different from early 80's when lots stayed a few years but many, especially the London boys, became as dedicated as anyone. The only thing thats killing this scene is the proliferation of "something different" soul nights, all playing the same, and the flight of people away from venues like Lifeline to others they have more chance of djing at. Lets get some perspective on this. Lets discuss that outside the spectrum of the film. Its a fu**king film and publicity etc has to be dealt with as a film, peoples lives are on the line here, go and read the Telegraph article and get some perspective on this, its not an overnight thing, its been around for many years. You don't have to go and see it, you and don't even have to like it, but the paranoid and personal nastiness that you and a few others are perpuating is just ridiculous. Its a near lifetime work from a very talented individual driven by a passion that most of us non creative people can ever match or understand, yes I am biased, but I have seen it twice and it stands up as a very good film. A much darker film than many people would have done in its search for authenticity. Some of the film work in it is breathtaking, mostly shot outside with real cars, on site locations, real people, of which in these days of small budget is very unusual, if not unknown. So it deserves praise as a good British film, which the film industry are doing little to help. Its all about making it an authentic film, not a soul night. So excuse me if I have had enough of some of the personal swiping going on. Do you go and see films much do you? I wonder if all these cinema people will be moaning about the influx of not normal people taking over their enterntainment choice. No I didn't think so. I really expect better of you, some are just in the moaning game for their own ego, which is not you, so I just don't understand your issue, as your logic per above is frankly warped.

I'll even do your top button up for you Yes heavy amount of sarcasm given events of last few months in the good old US of A!

I don't know, but Angela Davis was an interesting character https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angela_Davis Her autobiography is excellent, a great read of the times, but better is her book If The Come In The Morning. A very articulate writer Thankfully things like this don't happen in the USA any more.......

https://www.discogs.com/Archie-Bell-The-Drells-Where-Will-You-Go-When-The-Partys-Over/master/617167 Proof there is a UK release, although interestingly enough no demos there. Must sweep the shelves. The Portrait one was definitely a much later release, it was when I was going out.

Pretty sure I have a UK PIR 7" of this, likely to be a demo if I had it as generally just collected UK demos of Philly, Will check when I get home. I haven't seen a US one now you mention it, although not been looking too hard.

I am confused now, Tommy Hunt didn't do the September one, that was the original last night. Me being an OLNO man I never went back, and went and had my life changed by Wigan Tiffs in October. I also thought that the actual last one was a Friday, but never paid attention I had moved on by then...... Tiffs only had two nighters so not sure if there was two month gap, and I thought they pulled the last one, Dave Thorley remembers. This has all the hallmarks of a History book written by someone with advance dementia.......

David you shock me, might expect that on here, but not from you, very tasty piece of work that is, and works great in the video. I don't think his In Crowd is that bad, but its not any way near his best, as Jordi says the music and the voice don't seem to fit, but I like his vocal on it. However he is capable of much, much better, and live he is unbeatable at the moment for me. I think this is his finest moment for me now. Proper music Or maybe this, and I believe Mr Cliff Steele has been playing this out, proper DJ.

It is, its fit young birds, pretending to be grumpy bald old men, grooming eligible young Londoners like you and the boys. (Rich Buckley now excluded obviously) Quinvy is actually a 20 year old Halle Berre lookalike (looking like Halle when she was 20) with bigger tits trying to lure you behind the bike sheds for some abuse. You can never be too trusting on this world web thing you know.....

How often have you played it?
-
Are you saying that people are bootlegging Kent stuff? And no we don't want any more unissued/exciting stuff. If I am sitting at home bored rigid, why should you have any fun while out.
-
Really? I just see people debating about what is Northern, underneath it all, yet again, despite that not being the opening posters intention. Do you want to highlight deep soul people grinding axes?
-
I am answering your getting personal at others with your petulance and your "we don't want" it, while some people obviously do want it, while writing out relevant parts of the scenes history. And you dictating what is Northern despite you getting stroppy when people do the same. I never understand it, you can very eloquently argue why the music is pish, so why resort to that. As I keep saying, people just want to change history, no idea why. I haven't said anything about personal taste, or even liking any of it, just pointing out that calling it not Northern just because you don't like it and have got all stroppy about someone daring to express an opinion, is more than a little hypocritical. Matts records are all Northern, like it or not, which he was expressing a refreshing joy about, while we bicker like old men over our respective periods of the scene, online, with no intention of participating in the scene. Amazing really. Anyway, as usual its becoming tangent city, so I am going to do something to save the world. Or drink myself into a gin jelly stupor.
-
SO if you like it it's Northern, but if you don't its not. People shouldn't have a go at you for not liking what was played on Northern scene for years, but you can have a go at people for liking it. Hmm hypocrisy stinks. What happened to if its played on the Northern scene its Northern Soul, whether it be pop, pish or bhangra. Hasn't that been your stance when records of your era, a small period over 30years ago lets not forget, have been criticised. Whats different to the records post that period. Noones forcing you to like it, however no matter how far you throw your toys, or enlist a whole load of people who missed over 30 years of the scenes evolution, it doesn't change they are valid Northern scene plays. Argue the merit of these records, and their inclusion indeed, and like I did in the second half of the nineties and since in reality, excuse your absence from the scene because you think they are pish. But saying they are not Northern because they do not fit your narrow description, despite them been played regularly on the scene, goes against everything you have said in the past. Its not for you, or for me in some cases, although the list above are definitely for me, but thats a whole different argument. I love the fact that someone on here finally shows some unbridled enthusiasm and enjoyment in the music and the scene, and he is shot down for his enthusiasm, rather than just have a good debate on the music. I have said it before but thank f**k the scene was so small during my time, its what made it so great obviously.

And a fantastic version by the writer on a truly fanstastic CD Sam Dees - Heritage of A Black Man. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004PBPJYM/ref=dm_ws_sp_ps_dp Listen to the first couple of tracks and it redefines Deep Soul for me.

Jock Mitchell W/ Fab. Agents No Mad Woman On Golden Hit
jocko replied to Tlscapital's topic in Look At Your Box
I had a perfect one back in the 80's, I gave it away last night of Stafford to a mate who had had his nicked, fairly sure his was perfect too, And think Joan on here has a perfect one so the do exist. I have one now that has considerable noise, and its mint, and I am sure has got much worse despite only ever been played once. So really not sure the story on this, but its a ba***rd, as it spoils one of the greatest 45's that exists.
