Oh and I should say I have experienced all-nighters in Italy, France, Spain and Germany so in answer to original question is yes your perception is bollocks, Germany in particular being the most adventurous and successful musically, with a majority of unbelievably enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly people, ANd for taking it serious, I think the amount of people taking time to go out and combine good music with great local culture answers that surely. Your perception is bollocks since you are making assumptions based on your background rather than your experience, very typical ex-pat attitude I would have to say. I am now interested in seeing these Australian progressive playlists, as the limited amount of current empirical evidence, e.g. Manifesto and on here, doesn't back up this claim, so it would be good to have these perceptions at least challenged before I book my flight out!

The Stephanie Pickett and Charles Wilson CD's are also well worth a try if you like more traditional contemporary stuff. And to say he has done nothing musically is f***ng laughable, but not untypical of the typical Northern Soul only fan, I do find it bizzare you of all people make the claim, given your claims to liking all sorts of black music. Whether you like it or not Soul to Soul were genre defining and had impact on Black music generally, not just UK, thats an undebatable fact, because you don't like the individual is no cause to re-write history. And I am off now, so last word on subject, other than to say given your wide claims and views it would be nice to know who you actually are, because you claim to know lots of people, but lots of people do not seem to know you. If its a comment made by the guy who runs the Soul Patrol mail out and site, or used to as I am not sure if it still exists, then it is a view by a Black American and Soul History cultural and historical expert, and a Black American, I really dont think it matters what we think, which in many ways is the point of the article for me. Its not new News but does that make it any less relevant to a Black American historian, I assume October is still Black History month in the states and if so probably puts the article in context which just reprinting it here doesnt. Cue lots of indignant we Northen Soul brits know better type response......... And for the record I think he makes lots of good points about people re-writing history and how that impacts future generations, which lots of people on here seem to know lots about, all IMO off course.
