  1. I am assuming this is a rant at me, do you want to try and point where you are referred to in any way in my response, I think if you look I mention a name which is a sort of clue. I hadn't even seen your post to be honest. Very good example why I very rarely post on these things any more, as you and and various other bandwagon jumpers just seem to jump in these days with the sole intent of attacking the poster and ignoring the actual post. I am assuming you would give one of your kids a D- for such a schoolboy error
  2. Well done Sean, thank fu*ck somebody has said something, if I say things like this it just get written off by me being my usual difficult and grumpy self, its being bugging the shi*t out of me but didn't want to be the first to say anything. , Mike you have said stuff like this a couple of times, I would be more interested in knowing who actually perpetuates this as generally I have never actuially seen anyone saying this, it just seems a sly dig at people that have talked about original v bootleg, which is a completely different argument, in the past rather than based on any fact. Compare that sort of pathetic sh*t to the knowledge that people like Tony impart on this thread and the Smokey Robinson thread, which is just fantastic, and you see how much better the wole internet experience could be if people stuck to facts. Hats of to all the people on this and SR thread sharing knowledge, its top stuff, all we need is John M to end his self imposed exile and start sharing the info as he used to so often.
  3. Hmm the uploads keep failing, will do them tomorrow, can send anyone that is interested wav file soundclips. Gnight
  4. Bernard Smith - Never Gonna Let You Go - Spectrum 7" Posted info:
  5. Carla Thomas - Never Stop Loving You - Kent 7"
  6. Okay a few for auction, reluctant to let go but needs must and all that, described exact condition as best I can and included soundclips recorded direct from 45's, and will only let go if get right offers. I will hopefully add scans tomorrow, if I can get my damned scanner to work, happy to take pictures of label/vinyl and send to interested parties. Carla Thomas - Never Stop Loving You - Kent 6T 7 One very light mark across bottom of 45 but otherwise very clean record. The first issue of this, from 1991, bloody hell is it that long ago, and the most played of the Kent 45's, huge all over and just one of the greatest, think this copy may actually have been played at the 100 club once, which surely increases its value!! I want offers over £100 on this one, that includes a huge chunk of sentimental value! The Internationals - Beautiful Philosphy/Too Sweet To Be Lonely (D'Ar) One of the hottest tunes around, and rightly so, another that will break my heart to see go, but thats life! Top side has some marks around vinyl but nothing major and plays perfectly. TSTBL has a bit more marks, mainly paper marks though, no scratches, and again plays perfectly. I am looking for offers over £150 on this. Bernard Smith - Never Gonna Let You Go/Man Without A People (Spectrum) Ouch, one of my all time faves, thanks to those highland hermits, the Whitmores, really breaks my heart (who says Scots have no emotions) but... NGLY has some light paper marks but otherwise a very clean record, MWAP being the best side and therefore most played has a few more marks, couple of dj swirls, but nothing major and again both play perfectly. Offers over £250 on this. I will keep these open until 9pm Monday evening, and then close, maybe catch a few of the stimulated posters at weekend! Thanks for looking, some set sale stuff to follow tomorrow, Cheers Jock
  7. F**k me Mr Sweeney, miles ahead of the game as usual, never even heard of this version, fantastic version. CD winging its way to me as we speak and I will put proper sound clip of this up, just rushing out but will add Sam's sizzling version later, along with at least one other version. Interestingly enough I am just reading Daniel Wolffs fantastic book on Sam Cooke, and listening to the Soul Stirrers brilliant Ace CD, I certainly dont agree with Malc that everything Sam sung was great, but when he did sing, he was amazing, will put some clips of the legendary live LP up when I get home. Cheers Jock PS Hope you are well Gareth, apologies about no communication but this year has been a bit wierd and very quiet so far. PPS Mr Cato just realised I never answered either your PM or Mr Darkers, will do so when I get home, sorry, just been busy avoiding life lately!!
  8. Surely a more interesting question is if you didn't dj would you bother going out again, Or if you do dj and you do go out do you go anywhere other than where there is a potential crowd for your own do or a potential spot?? Just a few more thoughts to help this lively debate along!
  9. He was on here and threw insults at everyone for not playing his game, sounds familiar. Even given your well know Wigan obsession, I can never get my head round why you always defend him almost without thought Mark. Maybe if you actually sat down and wrote down what musically and integrity wise you could tangibly defend him on it would be a stronger defence, I suspect it would be a short and very time boxed response though...
  10. Wow, Steve G bears his teeth and reminds everyone of what a good fanzine writer he was!! Great post, in fact post of the decade so far, and sums it up perfectly. As an armchair moaner, I now avoid these debates generally but this had to be commented on. Time for Blackbeat 2010 Steve, it could be voice of change.......
  11. Seconded Marc, and something people seem to ignore. And for all those whod don'buy CD's you should as this is chance to really give something backl to artists rather than talk about, after all you don't have to play the things, just buy them And as I said on the naughty thread, before it was removed, the overall package Kent produce is 2nd to none, for a tenner you get knowledge and some of the greatest music going, whats not to like. Although there are some other great companies like Soulscape that deserve to be supported. And Ady donates about 20% of his income to alcohol producing firms most weekends, therefore creating jobs with his vast wages and keeping up his well known socialist principles.........
  12. Apart from the obligatory venue plug, which seems almost compulsoray for all posts these days , I agree 100% with above, I pretty much said this last time but each time you say it people throw insults, such as Geeselad above, with very little understanding to back it up it appears. I do not think I come into any of the categories thrown above but do not want particularly to hear this out, because it isn't that good, its not bad, but not good enough for all the attention it gets, and as for the future of Northern, please, everyone knows the future of Northern is now explicitly alligned to the invention of a time machine! KGF has actually grown on me as a piece of music, bizarrely from buying it on a great broken beat type CD which sort of belittles most of the stereotypes so far, but it has very limited appeal as a going out record. I can see its appeal at student clubs based on bringing in the newbies, or whatever it is now termed as, but as a serious Northern soul record there are far too many better records for it to be given the Kudos it has been given, always amazed me to be honest by some of the people who seem to have bought into the hype. And as new music there is far more interesting new music out there, its just a little tired and unimaginative to tie the future of anything into what is really just a very well executed tribute record. Now if you just want new music to get the party jumping, as Mr Trouble seems to insinuate, surely then you are looking for House music.......
  13. I cannot believe they have not flown out, 2 fantastic singles, especially the Doris Allen, proper Northern dancer, and totally ignored by all other than Cliff Steele I seem to have noticed. If only it was on that Emporers label or whatever that Kings Go Forth 45 was on.

    A Few Sales

And an equally brilliant B-side, that is in refo, that in my mind is perfect for ths scene today, as I would like it to be!
  15. Are you sure, that sounds too school boyish an error for someone of John's normal accuracy to make. Serious question, why do you think something like this is perfect for todays scene, its the sort of sound that has been left in the past surely? Am I missing something? I know I am Harry Hermit these days but that surprises me.
  16. I went and dug out some of A&S 60's stuff last night to re-listen as I couldn't hear it, thought it was just my uneducated ears, but could hear no reason for that assumption. Interesting one!
  17. Hi Mark, very good to see you and the lovely Annette on Saturday. I have one that I would let go, just need to check condition etc when I get home tonight. PM me and I will get back to you tonight. Cheers Jock
  18. I bet they sound better than the Wombat on that bloody record, one of the worst ever, in my very humble opinion obviously.
  19. Not in my head Ian, which lets be honest is the closest you or I are ever goign to get to either of them, which is probably just as well at our age! Anyone not voting for Donnie, no matter what hes been compared to, will be dealt with appropriately by the Soul Police, Sweeney and Gene Hunt Squad, get it!
  20. You bunch of Northern monkeys, and yes that includes you Croasdell. Listening to Donnie Hathaway provides as much pleasure as having a threesome with Angela Jolie and Lara Croft, followed by afters with some equally fit young thing. Heathens!
  21. Thats a very good point Petra, and actually a danger of internet forums, I think I have only ever heard MW once or twice and then at a do and in all honesty cannot for the life of me remember it. I am merely repeating what has been written to be honest. Oops. So in summary its maybe not the same backing but it is a top record that all those alleged "something different" dj should stop back up their words with action and play it! PS Anyone got a soundclip of Mel Williams? PPS I do not envy your job of selling records at moment mate, its probably marginally easier being a banker at the moment, or maybe its my technique is no good (at selling not banking!)
  22. Agreed Ged, I actually played the other side, must put it up here.I t is a good double sider but always think BL just shades it, fantastic record to dance to
  23. Updated as Falcons, Peps, and Gail Anderson gone, Larry Laster Loma on hold, few enquiries on a couple of others but still loads left, some bargains there I thought, oh well, a few more to add tonight. Also got a few thousand at cheaper end, under £100, if anyone has anything they are after within that band, within reason drop me a note, I can only say no. Was hoping to sell the more expensive ones to sell as few as possible, but needs must! Cheers for the interest.
  24. Big sound up Allanton way, back in the 1890's Pretty sure it progressed from last hour record to middle of night record during that time, although sure it killed the floor at Droylsden and Blackburn for me. I have just been shocked to find out how cheap it is to be honest, always thought this was a hard record to source. Not sure where I heard this first, which is unusual I am normaally very good aat remembering who I stole my plays off Top top record!
  25. I have a Dells I would do at £35 incl recorded if thats any good. Need to check condition is only thing and won't be able to do that till this evening,. Can't PM from work either so apologies about doing it on here. Cheers
