Dodgy computer double post!
-
Eh that is exactly what I am doing and have always done, in fact you steal my words from my first post, I am judging it based on the fact so far there are 2 glaring stupid errors just on the trailer which doesn't bode well for the film, it is the film chap himself who has now come on saying the film is now based on Winstanley's book which kinda changes the context of the film and if correct makes it a far more ambitious project and in reality one hardly likely to be achievable on screen. However I am more than a little suspicious, I think the film is sold out for both showings, I am on holiday in Italia so haven't tried to book, so there is no real need for them to publicise it here, other than they are now faced with an empty after show party and you judge if its co-incidence that they only appeared here after the local lads pulled the plug, completely correctly by the looks of it, on their do. Its been fairly typical of the behaviour up to now and its a damn shame when they have something as prestigious as a Saturday night gig at one of the worlds leading film festivals they continue to act like rank amateurs and has been the case all along treat people on here like puppets and with no respect. They have just lied all the all through their dealings on here which is just really quite pathetic for a world wide organisation and just proves like their hero Mr Winstanley they only care about the bottom line, not the product. I still can't help feeling they only added Northern into the film as they knew they had a captive audience rather than any concern for the subject matter, just a pity they didn't actually take any time to understand their audience which has always been my concern about this, the lack of respect and understanding they have and the fact its a crowd ploy rather than subject matter they love along with their behaviour has me thinking this just wont work, and I use it again, its about getting the right emotions attached to the film which Paul Sadot did so successfully with his play, its not an easy thing, I think the scene and people on it deserve the respect of setting context and concept correctly, then the storyline is an independant beast and can take care of itself and that is the least we deserve, If you are happy with your 15 minutes of fame, so you can say you were there, at any cost to scenes already dwindling reputation then that is your choice, but for me that is as usual another nail in coffin of any credibility of people around.
-
yes and you completely cocked up any credibility with the clapping scene, such a simple thing for you to get wrong, I said the film deserved a chance initially but that and your arrogant publicity has blown your chances for me, you really don't deserve any sort of audience at all. For those asking about the two nights some intersting stuff on Soulboyspromo forum about it. It reads to me like Winstanley has shafted some of the local guys, surprise surprise. And even more credibility killer for thus film.
-
so are you saying the film is now a history of Wigan? You lot really don't do yourselves any favours do you. How is JoeyTheLips??
-
Oi shut it you two, or I will remind you of your long faces around 9.30 on Saturday, looked you had been slapped with a wet fish. Apologies to all the rest, they are done as Cliff has an advance promo in his hand, I did take about 12 sets down to Cleethorpes in case anyone was there but they were purloined by chalet mates and visitors,. they will all be issued by Wednesday.

Look Whats Just Out! - A Stunning Compilation Of Soul!

Me too, just hope it comes before the train journey to Cleethorpes ( I was too tight to pay the one day delivery, no dount not opening my sporran strings will come back to haunt me!) Is the Spencer Wiggins one going to be at Cleggy does anyone know as want that one NOW too. -
Shush, although I am starting to feel like I need to change my name to a number on here with all my ranting I did also used to look at a great house one that had great mixes on it but lost it, was it deep house or something, is it still around? For SImsy and the others on here, I recommend this, full of heart and soul, and just great banter. https://taboard.com/forum/index.php

Not telling you as they don't have an equivalent of Freebasing and my blood pressure stays much lower than on here! Not sure how Soul Related the majority of posts are on here anyway to be honest.........
-
I think the point is I have it completely in context, of course they were great times and sure I loved the huggy vibe while bopping around to things like this, just lots of the music hasn't aged as well as the memories and in reality its shite when taken in context, against other better records. Thats always going to happen with any dance scene. The whole thing about this is that there is in reality a whole lot of difference between soul and soulful, not going to argue your definition of soulful, that is definitely open to debate, Pavarotti is soulful to lots, but its not a soul vocal and thats what I am judging it on, in that context its a piss poor anaemic version and nothing is going to change that.

New Jersey Connection - Love Don't Come Easy, think its on a 7" too, will try and dig it out for later, haven't listened to this for years, suspect it may be a bit funky for Mr Gilbert's ears though...... Woops just seen the 2000 Ken, thought this one was a lot earlier than that.
-
I was going to mention that, you gave me a whole Carnival tape early 80's and myself, Craig B Ady H set off buying anything we could on the label, never did ask you why you collected this label specifically given your love of all things Detroit. As people say it really is a fantastic label and as Gilly says the Kent CD's are essential to any lovers of all things soulful, No balearic nonsence on this label. That looks very like my copy mate, a little scuffed, think I got it last 5 years off Ebay to replace an issue I gave away, always thought this was one of the hard ones no? Have quite a few recorded can put up as soon as Mike emerges from the Engine room, all covered in oil and blood, finally having fixed refosoul.

Having a bad day so thanks for the opportunity to rant, don't really go into Freebasing now so have lots of pent up frustration just waiting on a thread like this. It was Tell Me Why, for a few weeks at Bradford it was the most wanted tune I could imagine, I found it in local HMV and played it at home, it sounded like German marching band music played backwards and Paul McCartney singing with his nuts in a wrench. I loved them at the time, but it was definitely a time and a place thing. My lawyer says I really couldn't comment. You can all argue how you like but just accept I am right and the world will be a better place, let go of the Balaeric pop tunes pretending you are deaf raver and feel your soul. There that beats 2 hours of therapy, off for a fish supper by the seaside, I expect you all to have realised I am right by the time I return.

(1) No other than they should be shot at birth for crime against music. (2) Fuck knows, sounds like a screeching hyena with about no connection what ever to any soulful dance music I have ever heard, only topped off by the ridiculous corny guitar solo somewhere in it, I had lost the will to live by this time. (3) Not as long as there is any sense or taste in the world, its not even fit to be mentioned on the same planet never mind soul forum Its a piss poor pop version that you are letting the memories of Bradford overrule any taste, I probably danced to it at Bradford, but I also danced to J-Cap and Paradise Orchestra, must have been the strong beer, once I listened with my ears rather than my memories I realised they were second rate pop tunes, great times but like all great times over the years there has been some shit music played, this was one of the worst. Arthur Miles is good in a different vein, but Mavis is a soul record, I like soul records. The end!
-
Get it connected direct from mixer to laptop if you can Brett, much easier mate, and lots more you can do with software although I haven't actually progressed to that stage yet!! Okay guys finally done, redid the last century one as it had too much obvious crossover style so done it again with a totally different mix and even though I say it myself I love it, but then I always love playing with my records hence why it always takes so long, just off to PO now to post first 10 and remaineder will go out on Monday. Apologies about delay again, but I won't pretend it wou;dn;t be different next time......

Billy Robinson + Burners "shucks You Left The Fire Burning"crazy Horse
jocko replied to Cobbles's topic in Record Sales
F**k me what a record, one to send the tempo terrorists scurrying home to their HQ. Old Guy H cover up and one he gave me as a pressy (who said Guy was careful!), had forgotten about it until Karl R played it a DDA and it made my liver quiver and then some Just buy it and move away from the norm, sheer gutbucket screamingf In case you hadn't guessed I love it! You can't even buy a pressing for £30 these days. -
That is the one Jerry, cheers. I knew I had seen something somewhere. Can you bring one of these along as well Mr W, I will make sure the money goes directly to Louise for safekeeping. Cheers James
-
Are you bringing them along to Cleethorpes Mr W, if so save me one, it will take some to beat old Esther for me but sure it will be worth a buy in its own right, fantastic stuff on this label, really is great spread. Has there been a realses since Bill Spoon? I keep thinking I missed one. last 2 I bought were BS and David Hudson. And also bring along that cheapo box you had at Silks, reckon I could spend around £15 and still get too many records to carry, I will even encourage Fraser to bring some of the shillings he has kept for you!
-
I would have thought given their performance last year the answer to that was obvious, the future is bright, the future is yellow (okay maybe not but given last few years a degree of optimism is surely allowed). I suspect you are looking at my old avatar, current one has a group of young Scottish yoofs looking young and optimistic, hence my comment! Skinny and trainers, is that not Graeme and Byrnie! Yes it is you, hiding your bushel as always, I suspect that may have been the night of the legendary 2nd Allenton DVD, that never existed, honest guv.
-
That is so 80's Alan, now the real future is all about the past and for the over 50's, its their time to make it like it used to be, and bore everyone sensless, the kids are meanwhile getting on down laughing at us in some place they won't tell us about! My avatar shows the enthusiasm of youth, WTF happened to get us here.............

It was a dig at your childish and churlish comments on the other thread about this when you questioned the integrity of anyone who dared to think differently of this film just because they knew Elaine, it was petty and stifled any real debate. So all that artist stuff you have put up before, which is identical to what is on Wikipedia other than change of word order, is your own, or are you saying you wrote the stuff in there, either way I take my hat off to you Malc, that is seriously impressive. I love Google, it is probably the single greatest invention ever, since jam roly poly. Its a pop video FFS, As Steve says I dont take this to be about any specific soul night, surely its all about the emotions and feelings of going to, getting there and being at the dance, and captures that amazingly for me. My comment on attention to detail is quite clearly, as you should see if you re-read my post, about Elaines work in its entirety not just this, and I stand by my statement 100% still. And before I get the usual comments, I was very positive about the other film initially; in fact I would suggest I was the first to be positive on here. However the sneaky and disgraceful behaviour by its representatives and the continual carping on about them asking people but still making some fairly basic mistakes has now dampened any enthusiasm I have. My view still is get it right or not at all. An Escape To Victory type film for the Northern scene may be okay in some peoples eyes but in mines its a travesty and a wasted opportunity. I am unashamedly biased on side of Elaines film but I am so based on what I see as the likely integrity of either film, and based on what I have heard and seen about both, not some misplaced loyalty, as I would be about any film on any subject.

Just because you are right doesnt mean I wont argue with you, you should know that by now!! And yes good point, the Modern Knobhead exists and is often the same creature as the Northern Knobhead, sort of means we are agreeing now. No offence to anyone meant of course, its just my opinion and no Knobheads were hurt in the process of me making my opinion! 99% yes re Cortona, just need to confirm one thing at work first, i.e. will I still have a job! I will give you a call over weekend. No not yet, and since I employ myself even I am not daft enough to make myself redundant, but yes a little quiet in the office and a little bit bored and cheesed off so some mischief making was the order of the day! Not that it worked obviously, Diane has been giving everyone tips on how to ignore my prattling! Aww you know I was only playing, you know I love you really, especially when you give me records, oh well at least you bit and made my day, I suppose enough getting paid for playing on here, off home to listen to some real Modern music....................
-
Just trying to bait Marco into losing his normal mild mannered self and do some verbal jousting, even goaded him by text but he has just ignored me, as most people do when I rant, and, eh, stayed mild mannered and gone and done something more worthwhile and interesting it looks like! Off to start on Val now see if I have any more luck there! You are obviously just a Northern Knobhead, not matter how far South you now live! PS Please dont tell Elaine I am calling you names! PPS Didnt I put you onto that Aretha Franklin track in the cheapie thread. PPPS Can you tell I am bored at work today! Your record will be winging its way down to you on Saturday, so you can ungrit your teeth soon! To be honest I dont particularly dislike it, its just a bit bland and the sort of crossover record that the Northern rooms adopt and therefore everyone assumes its modern which sort of annoys me, however I now realise I have too much time on my hands today and need to do something more positive with my life (Sorry Toad!)
-
I was going to mention this Mr Chalk, still one of the best new dancers I have heard this decade (or last decadif you want to be pedantic!).
-
Since I am always moaning about not much actual soul discussions on here, should join on this one, at last a thread about soul music, its always intersting thread and since 99.9% of my records fits in here, of great interest to me . Some off the top of my herad that are already in Refosoul are Darrow Fletcher - I Like The The Way (Revue) Record of this thread for me was the Jeanette Williams Stuff tip in the very first post, fantastic record, old Ady Harley tip and absolute monster if you don't mind your dancers with a twist in their oomph, well I would say if you like that record, you should like this, a real powerhouse from someone who is winging his way to being one of my favourite singers. Dramatics - Choosing Up On You - (Cadet) 70's with a little balls unlike the other record we were talking about on the other thread, smooth and rough at the same time for me this. Brenda & Tabluations - A Love You Can Depend On (Top And Bottom) Pretty sure this was one of the first records I remember from Wigan, thanks to the gentleman that is Dave Evison, and I have never tired of its beautiful ebullience ever since, fantastic feel good dance ditty, would love to shake my tail feather to it again. Can't put links to it at the moment but they are there if some kind soul would like to do this.
