Don't sell it, close your curtains, banish the family from the room, ramp up your speakers and listen to every album 3 times in a row without leaving room (the Live album 6 times), then get yourself over to the crossover thread and start your repentance, there is still time yet.......... Life changing music! And no disagreeing until you have done all of above!
-
Last shout for these, reduced 3 of them but for most its as low as I want to go, PM's if interested,. Cheers Jock
-
I'll save them for later, when you are in a less chilled and more easily annoyed mood...... PS I suspect you have vastly underestimated that Dee Edwards at moment, will be interested in how much interest you get on that!
-
No but I am curious to know which Dazz Band track you are after and why! Do you want some more mid 80's pop funk recomendations for your new collection!! PS They do have a couple of decent albums if you want some serious recommendations for your growing soul collection!

I have not even listened to it and its sh*t to paraphrase Mr Smith. Had this debate back in 1874 about whether it was a good version and logic, while obviously not quite the same based on Pete's values, was not it isn't, its just easier to get hence people trying to convince themselves its better. LJB is a decent pub rock singer and this is a decent soulfulish pub rock song, its not soul, but as I agree that is more perception than some of the sh*t debated on here, I won't do my usual holler for Freebasing on this one! If however anyone mentions f***ing Phil f****ing Collins (unless literally with a sledgehammer) not only will I holler freebasing I will personally shoot the person mentioning Satan's spawn!

Lots of Alicia Keys video would probably work, especially her earlier stuff, and the added bonus is getting to look at Alicia, a treat to behold!

Garv mate, I think I may have sold you a dummy George Best would have been proud of, coudn't find that Lou Bond LP on Cottillion last night, which I was surprised as had 2 until recently, then had a brain wave in car this morning, I think I am getting it confused with Lou Johnson LP on Cottillion, so sorry mate, proves even us Scots make the very occasional mistake, as I always think they have similar voices and similar material, although a bit more Southern on the LJ, however I think you would enjoy it, if you don't already have it! Confused as the announcer of the greatest sitcom ever Soap, you bet I am!
-
I am assuming you have the Cottilion one, which is great, if so you will also like this which has been re-issued on great quality CD, again a bit folky but I really love this, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lou-Bond/dp/B0034K7QWS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1285620563&sr=8-1

Count me in, although it may depend on choice, I don;t have much in group/sweet side, maybe other sides of stuff I have bought but never really been a big buyer of that genre, unless unintentionally!

Hmm, not a surprise when you think about it, but still makes you gasp with shock at the thought, and as always we take a Northern view only, if we really dig our heads out our sand pit and yes it is a historical place and deserves preservation as such. Caught in two minds on this one, you just need to look at the Landlords name to see there will be no room for manouvre there and any plan would have to be long term sustainable and to the benefit of their clients or else they would have duty of care issue, I suspect it will be a big pension fund or similar and right now all they care about is returns, However as Tony says, to do nothing just seems criminal and another case of us just rolling over and letting the machine piss on our belly, never mind tickling,. Sometimes no matter how futile the fight, its the fighting thats important, not always good at putting this into action but certainly for Londoners this place is as special as anywhere on the planet, and its loss represents much more than just a venue closing down, although in current political and economic climes, it really is no surprise, welcome to Big Society with little or no community!
-
Okay updated but going slower than John Terry turning (on the pitch obviously) thought I had priced them low as can go, wrong records wrong time maybe! Will probably start a fresh one tonight so last shout for these before I carress them carefully back onto shelves!

Pete that is so spooky, I have been meaning to ask about this over last few days as have been thinking of this for some bizarre reason. I used to have this on an acetate, with no label thought, and I think it might have been 10" rather than 7". Pretty sure I was told it was cut from tape and no vinyl existed. It was a double sided with a fantastic deep soul thing by them on the other side, which I believe was very in demand in Japan, it was an unissued thing as far as I remember and at that time was the only acetate kicking around, it had come to me as a present from Colin Law who had bought it from Tim Brown I seem to remember. I would suspect he is the best bet for info on this. I gave it a as a loan to a friend to play out and then, for various reasons, never seen him again, so lost it, so would definitely like a clip, I remember it as a great but odd tempo'd screaming dancer, so would love to hear it against my memory. Played this at my last set at 100 club to a number of nodding heads but not many dancers!

Records for sale Putting some records up, will be adding quite a few as week carries on, PM's preferred, but I often can't get back during day, I will get back as soon as I can however. All are in Ex condition unless stated. Postage £1.75 for recorded, £5 for special delivery. Would prefer payment by bank transfer, although it seems unbelievably unpopular, can do paypal, will do free for under £100 but over that would need to add 2% to split charges. Bill Brandon – The Streets Got My Lady (Piedmont WD) £175 Sold The much rarer WD, but sadly without the great b-side, still one of the all time great 70's 45's. Allanton monster, ready for reactivation?? Sold Bobby Freeman – Lies/I Got A Good Thing (Loma WD) £30 Great old school dancer, assume it would have been played somewhere back in the day, but one of the many Loma stuff that has never had any attention in my time. Has a small o written on a side, with a date on the b-side Bobby Reed – I'll Find A Way/I Wanna Love You So Bad (LomaWD) £70 Just class in glass, great double sider that is as good as it gets on the top side Jackie Beavers – Come Back My Love/Understatement Of The Year (Nation) £75 Sold Old Gary Rushbrooke stormer that sounds fantastic again, with a nice dancer on b-side that I do not think has had any attention. Invincibles – Can't Win/So Much Love (Loma WD) £20 Gino Washington – Like My Baby/I'll Be Around (Mala Yellow Promo) £75 Has play written in felt pen that has smudged on a side, great double sider with IBA finally getting the acclaim it deserves, back to Stafford with this one! Lollipops – Loving Good Feeling/Step Aside Baby (Impact Red Issue) £85 Some very light marks, plays perfectly, fantastic double sider crying out for plays by those many something different DJ's! Shadows – My Love Is Gone/No Other Love (U.S.A) £100 One that's getting harder and another that takes my back, one of my all favourites, Dave Withers play which translates as f***ing brilliant. Has a fingerprint in the run out that I am sure would just come out. Don Gardner – Is This Really Love/Tighten Up Your Love Bone (Cedric Yellow) £130 Slight ring-wear on label on ITRL, and light marks on both sides. Don Gardner – My Baby Likes To Boogaloo/I Wanta Know Where Did Our Love Go (Tru-Glo-Town) £50 Storming dancer with one of the all time great beat ballads on the b-side, which was the side I bought if for! Bobby Smith – Walk On Into My Heart/Miss Stronghearted (American Arts Black Issue) £85 Sold Another Stafford stormer, in the right sense, one to make us forget all about Thatcher, can maybe do the same for you about today's version!! The Fabulous Peps – With These Eyes/I've Been Trying (Wee 3) £50 The one with the great version of IBT on b side, one of the all time top dancers, maybe not as nice looking as Wheelsville, but it sounds the same, this has light marks and scuffs on top side. Herman Hitson – Yes You Did/Better To Have Loved (Minit Demo) £110 Everyone knows the top side, one of the best driven dancers, but flip it over for another top notch beat ballad, as good as it gets for me. Remarkables with Frank Wilson– Is The Feeling Still There/Easily Misled (Audio Arts) £20 Another great double sider, I live VFM, top side the cheap way get a great Stafford style dancer, just brilliance from a brilliant group. Mary Hunt – I Want To Love And Be Loved (Soul Mate) £150 ON Sold Old Alice Clark c/u for Jim Wensoria and then Colin Law, just top class and the type of sound that used to have me on the M6 every week, sure it could do same for some thers, if you are not a tempo terrorist, the most soulful violin break ever, yes really! You do not see this very often at all.

I would like to think you are being all ironic with this statement and saying it in a loud Noddy Holder type accent like you must have, but I know you are not. Pots, kettles and American sense of humour are my word associations with this!
-
EH no, you were calling our taste s**t so you got a verbal lobby back, and a reasonably witty and well informed one, even though I say so myself. Isnt that what forums are for, to quote a certain Mr Smith in the past! I'll pick your toys up for you........ And as always you were confusing NS with Soul, if you had stuck Northern or even all nighter music in your debate you would have at least had a valid point, and I would have agreed more, although again one that not everyone would agree al Soul Essence etc etc, And don't knock these soul bowl soul packs, having gone through a box of them just earlier this year I have managed to move half a dozen into the fantastic crossover section on my shelves and sell another half a dozen of the less fantastic ones, for a total of around £400, not bad since they were about £25 for a hundred in those days! And I did recognise the brilliance of punk, for around 6 months in 1977/78 ( I was a late developer) but I then grew up and discovered soul music, the only real music in the universe, which I would like to say is my humble opinion, but to misquote and extend a Mr Rounce saying, my opinion is not only never humble, its fact!
-
Well actually it does, if you are a soul fan, and who actually says crossover has anything to do with Northern, and as thats the case why are you shoving your big (I imagine) beak in, again as your a Northern only bloke, allegedly! Get back to your podcasts please, although no more punk ones, the cats still in the attic quivering with disgust. Lots of people into crossover have little or no interest in Northern now because its shit and driven by a dogmatic clueless concept of one style, which is generally the opinion of people that went for a few years in the 70's and have found the faith, somewhere under a pillow they lost in 1978. Actually lots of people into crossover have never had much interest in Northern at all, the rather Forest Gump like attitude that you can only like soul if you like Northern is the exact reason people spend hours debating all the Paul's (Weller and Anka) and Frankl F****n Popp (how aptly f***** named) than, lets say Just Soul(© Two Very Old Men from South Yorkshire and the Crocodile Dundee of Chesterfield) which for some strange reason us soul fans want to do. The rather arrogant response that all roads soul are derived from Northern in the musical sense is frankly laughable, go and google the Urban Dictionary or look up the Guardian, they would have more idea than some people. I am equally surprised at some of the derogotary comments from Mr H etc which appear to be aimed at posters on the Crossover thread, it may not be consistent in style but it sure is almost always completely consistent in soul, I would have thought that was a positive and would be supported rather than derided by some of the posters on here, other than Smithers obviously, and in a show of solidarity for my brotherhood (30 years almost to the day after the Polish branch were created, which will no doubt have the Freebasers Fascists burning some flags in memory) will post some non stereotypical tunes tonight!
-
WTF is this all about, Simon you are just listing series of records with no connections in style or time played or even to the f***ing questions! Listing a whole load of cheesy 70's doesn't reallly represent any thing to do with "the change" whatever that is, maybe some definition, some scope and some structure please and people might understand it a bit better, in my opinion obviously!!

The 8Ts - A Barren Wasteland For Rare Soul ?
jocko replied to Russ Vickers's topic in Look At Your Box
I would prefer great to just rare to be honest, although I believe the Rippole brothers more than satisfy that criteria, sadly never having heard them -
I am full of mischief this morning as you will see if you read some other posts, especially 80's thread and just looking for some attention, although not sure what would be worse, a big hug from Mikey or a slap, both tend to be bone breaking! Not seem him for a while actually so pass him on my very best if you do put a contract out on me . I wouldn't say I don't like Latin, I don't like lots of in one go and the stuff I don't like I hate, which for some reason BV always slotted into that category, not sure why as it was by no means the worst of some of the criminal records of the 80's, a bit like Bob & Fred really, where I seem to be in a minority of 1 of truly hating that record! Hope you are well, think I am just going mad as not been out in nearly a month!
-
Another interesting question, and again if you think about, in reality the majority of truly great soul songs are going to have nothing to do with Northern or rare soul, surely only a handful would qualify if you are looking at the overall genre, I think it would be more interesting to compare how many could hold a candle to say Eddie Parker - If You Must Go.....,maybe another EP record but at the moment I can think of no others.... And in my admiittedly mischief filled mood this morning, I am not saying there is no truly great Northern, but thats judging it against other Northern or even other soul dance genres, as some people on here are. but not when judged agains Just Soul....... Food for thought.
-
They sound sort of similar but given Luther would only have been 22 on its release, 73, not sure he was actually that formed as a vocalist yet, and the site below seems pretty definitiive https://www.funkmysoul.gr/?p=523 He did something with a New York City Band later but I have only seen CD, never heard it, I have no knowledge f them being connected and doubt it to be honest, I just did a quick google but I suspect a bit more time would disprove your theory and its sometimes better to check before theorising!!

The 8Ts - A Barren Wasteland For Rare Soul ?
jocko replied to Russ Vickers's topic in Look At Your Box
Hmm interesting topic, there are two separate topics going on here to me, (1) Was there any great soul music made in the 80's, which I am surprised how many people I know and whose taste I totally respect think there wasn't much, I love the 80's from the indie stuff talked about on here, to the bass thumpers and drum machine led major stuff, right to the early house stuff, which I discovered much of retrospectively, I think it was an amazing decade although mostly for more uptemp stuff, interestignly enough, more of that later. (2) Was there any 80's stuff that would really take off on the main room of a Northern do, which I think was Russ's question and this is much more difficult, probably not many, and most of these mentioned I don't think qualify, going to ponder this today, as it is a dead interesting question. Thoughtful question Mr V. -
100% agree with you on this one, the other logic is just justiification to throw silly money without regard and its always for the same 100 or so records, hence the continuation of same old same old when it comes to the supposedly different sounds even, great if you can do it,even greater if you do it when I am selling them, but otherwise its a very warped logic to justify, suppose it has its paralllels in art where some collectors will pay anything to get the most wanted, I always hoped for a little more thought, individualism when it comes to soul collectors, maybe a bit too aspirational. Anyway back to BV, its sh*t so no matter of how much it goes for its not worth it, you know I'm right, a large case of Larry the Lamb growing up syndrome by the sounds of it to me..............

I am sure you charged me £25, I want a refund, oh maybe not in light of this thread, I promise to be nice to you for a month now Iain
