And where exactly did you get these pearls of wisdom from, never let a rumour get in the way of a good story eh.... I was at the last dance class that turned into a soul night as I was in London for the evening, and I didn't see any plan B or prancing, differing levels of dancers, some very good and very very authentic being trained very well for a film, and being acclimatised to what it is like to dance in among real people at the soul night later, most would call it damn good preparation and taking your art seriously, could even stretch it to liken it to method acting, hasn't done some serious actors too much harm in the past has it. Must tell Ken Loach to stop putting so much effort into making his situations real as possible, obviously he has it wrong. You really do have a chip on your shoulder don't you, I have heard the story about your promoting being run out of town, quite funny really, sure a wanabee promoting has beens in a washed up seaside town will make a good story one day........

I thought you might be commenting on the RW when I first saw this Sorry about lack of condition, I have sent wrong file in and other one is on my home PC at moment. I will update with conditions when I get home tonight and will answer all PM's in order of getting them, apologies, sloppy on my part! And good taste Mr Mace, it has a great b side, not one I think of as being in vougue scene wise, but like his other 45, just a great soul record
-
Okay some sales, postage at cost. Would prefer bank transfer, or paypal as gift as obviously selling for low end prices. I need to make room in record room for my MP3 downloads so shifting a few 45's. PM's only please. I am out of country from Thursday so it may be early next week before I can send anything out, if urgent let me know and we can discuss but cannot guarantee anything due to work,. Condition as noted below each record, I have listed exact state of vinyl/label and how it plays rather than an arbitrary grade as everyone does this differently currently. Happy to provide sound clips and/or scans (assuming can work new printer for scans!) and money back if you don't think I described it right. More to follow today/tomorrow. Ray Lewis - Give My Love A Try/Getting Over You (Fairmount DJ Copy) £125 Rarely seen, great version and a just a deep soul beauty. Johnny Moore - I'm Only Half A Man/Can't Live Without A Love (Jadan) £75, used to be a big hitter till some turned up, cracking double sider as you would expect from this man The Monticellos -Don't Hold Back/I Can't Wait Until I See My Baby's Face (Red Cap) £90 Another great double sider, top side was a big play for Gary R and just perfect for the tempo terrorists out there! Clydie King - Missing My Baby/My Love Grows Deeper (Imperial WD) £90 Absolute bargain, but suspect the appetite for quality at this tempo is minimum these days, sadly. Carol Anderson - Sad Girl/I'll Get Of At The Next Stop (Fee) £75 One of the original soul bowl lot brought in, and yes it was £2.50. Was being operative word sadly! Amazing deep soul flip outshines top side by far. Lorraine Chandler - What Can Do I Do/Tell Me You're Mine (RCA WD) £80 Class in a glass on both sides. Jackie Beavers - Bring Me All Of Your Heartaches (Grandland) £80, seems to be finding a little favour again, at last. Actually 2 good sides. Pat Lewis - Look At What I Almost Missed (Solid Hit WD) £75 Lovely not often seen WD, ZZ & Co - Getting Ready For The Getdown (Columbus) £125, The first issue with the right matrix. Dramatics - All Because Of You (Sport) £65 Another with that ooomph that seems to be the required sound nowadays, great dancer Romeos - Mon Petit Chow (Loma WD) £75 Ditto, one of the greatest instrumentals of all time, agro soul x 1000 George Jackson - I Don't Have The Time To Love You/Don't Use Me (Mercury) £150, generally tipped for the main side, wonderful beat ballad, but the flip has some mileage on those uptempo and frenzied dance floors. Soulful Twins - I Can't Let You Go (Sable) £80 You know what it's the same as, but a great record in its own right, the copy that probably was the first to get big plays, one of the many Allanton monsters out there, no matter what Stevie Walls trys to claim. Ty Karim - I Ain't Lying/Only A Fool (Roach) £80 Great record, with the overused backing but Ty's brilliant breathless vocals, and a fantastic b-side, that should/could be getting some interest in current world. And I think this is the actual copy Ady used for recent CD release, that must be worth an extra fiver! Tommy Tate - I'm Taking On Pain/Are You From Heaven (Okeh WD) £115 Just one of the greatest double siders from one of the greatest singers that ever graced a recording studio. Tough one to let go. Bud Harper - Wherever Your Were (Peacock) £115 Can't believe lack of interest in this, thought this would have been a cert to cross over to baggie pant land. A Stafford classic from the Gaz Kellet stable of numerous tips that should make it priceless for that alone. Buddy Lamp - Save Your Love (Wheelsville Single Sided demo) £150 Original and greatest agro soul record surely, more oomph (allegedly) than a certain legendary (allegedly) Leicestershire tablet factory, and one that should be the anthem for all tempo terrorists out there, you know who you are! Buddy Ace - It's All For You (Teardrop) £100 Recent JM auction, always been a very hard record, one of those early modern soul rarities that even Simon M must still like, although he won't admit it! Larry Laster - That's Just What You Did (Duo Virgo) £150 Just one of the best ever, had this for sale previously but pulled it because I couldn't bear to let go, however slowly converting my collecting habit to LP's or virtual only so seems it deserves a more loving home, this scene should hold its head in shame there seems to be no place for complete quality like this in present day. Gwen Owens - I Lost A Good Thing (Velgo Green) £80 Classic, never really got its dues to me due to always being in shadow of her other classic on the label, which is no surprise, even 3 nights of passion with Angeline Jolie would be overshadow by the unbridled beauty of her other monster! Romance Watson - Come A Little Closer (Coral) £30 Truly shocking record, this man really can't sing it pains me to say, having loved his other number unconditionally for many a year till I listened to it with a clear head and no all-nighter ear-goggles on, oops. However that is only my opinion, which normally I would say is always right, however if someone with a passion for rocking raucous dancers with piss poor vocals wants to buy this off me, I will admit I am wrong for once!
-
Another one been in sales box for ages with no sniffles, sounds like now is the time to grab it before the interest goes up..... H great to see you on here mate, hope all is as well as it can be, big hugs and kisses (manly ones obviously from me) from us down here, hopefully see you for the annual trouncing of your team by my beloved Hibees at the iceberg your team calls home,
-
And mines would be considerably cheaper than that...........
-
I have one that is for sale if any of those searching are interested........
-
Teena live, hopefully.
-
Sad and shocking news, I never seen her live, but I suspect that was where she truly shone. RIP lovely lady

Windy City - Party Heavy Up In Heah - Innovation 2
jocko replied to Corbett80's topic in Record Wants
Actually just seen on discogs.com a WD of PHUIH, I have never seen that before, so did the other side come out on a demo also or is it a 2 sided demo, or am I imagining GGDAW on a demo? Confused.com here. -

I take it you have one then... Just friendly banter honest, don't get the young lads ganging up on me again... I do agree with you on this, you do not see issues of this very often at all, fantastic record, other side is on single sided demo isn't? Other side also on the LP but this side isn't. -
Obviously been going constantly to all-nighters for 50 years as you must have been has affected your reading,. A, I didn't question its worth, in fact I highlighted its likely worth in first paragraph. B. I didn't criticise its mix of music, I guffawed loudly at comparing it to Stafford, or any other truly ground breaking venue, because no matter how much you and your tempo terrorists want to convince yourself it wasn't and will never be deserving of a place in that category. C. I didn't express it directly but I suppose I am questioning your definition of a Burnley sound, I suspect it would be more accurate to call it a Karl Heard sound, which arguably was also being played elsewhere long before that by people like Paul Sadot, Marco Santucci and some other of the young bucks I suspect, D. My point about the gap is very relevant, as lots of the records I heard about had been knocking about, and lots had been swapped by many of us on the legendary tapes of the 80's, thats actually not a criticism, its a praise as I think most of the great collectors venues I went to or were involved were built on this, and it means the guys picking the records are really listening and digging hard, which in my book is great,. It still does not make the venue anything like a legendary venue, other than for those few who made it their own. And I suppose that's back to my original point, in some ways I am jealous of you guys having such a genuine devotion to a venue, and the continued belief that is a workable proposition and one that will keep digging new ground. In many ways its what the progressive scene needs and is its only, unlikely as this is now, potential saviour, The fact that Karl is at the helm, combining his excellent taste with all round nice guyness, I suspect is a massive positive, Under its old form it just was not convincing enough for me, and many others thinking of the numbers, to buy into, partly because of the trusted reports from people and partly due to the tempo terrorism coming from the people who did "get it". You are right in me not wanting to get it, but only because it was a poor substitute, for my type of taste, for what had went before. I don't think I am alone in that thinking. I wont even bother with your numpty like comment about Stafford and mid-tempo, I'll put it down to snow crazyness, but I am amazed at how you kept going to all these all-nighters through 80's and nineties bored out your skull because almost all the nighters I went to then had same tempo mix as Stafford! Anyway, last comment, not sure why I care, as its unlikely to appear on my radar, probably just the usual of finding it hard not to present an alternative view when people often only hear those who shout loudest, I genuinely wish Karl all the best on this one, sure I may pop in just out of respect for Karl, although given this year it may be 2017 before I am seen out again..........................

] Aww you have taken out the halfwit, and I was getting excited wondering if it was still a term of sexual attraction in Yorkshire like it was when I spent much of my teen years there, or so they told me anyway....... I think pointing out a record being 10 times cheaper without pointing out effectively its a re-issue is very not helpful and could easily mislead someone in their search for the vinyl, some people only want original to buy and play, so providing inaccurate facts isn't very helpful to our younger members is it really..... You know me, I am a stickler for sticking to the facts! More important point, possibly one of the first crossover records, before people like me took the pace out of crossover, and a truly fantastic record, whichever version. Emel you should now have soundclip to your email. Cheers Jock
-
Ah the famous Pinch Brothers rules of record valuations, talk it up if we have and talk it down if you haven't. As someone who has both versions, and yes there are 2, of Buddy Connor and a copy of WFB I can conform you are indeed spouting pish big man. And in case you want to dispute fact do a search on here and find Mf Manship confirming WFB is a later release of BC, so like everything there are choices, just don't dress them up with fiction.
-
I have rarely seen an an issue of this, not even sure I have heard the other side, anyone have a sound clip for when refo back up?
-
Quite scary to see how few people mention Butch, as usual most people either quote their mates or people who are cutting it right now, shows just how few people on here actually have any real perspective on the scene's history or go to anything remotely like a proper Northern gig for me, Great choices Chris, not only 3 great dj's, although Gilly was always a reluctant DJ, but 3 people who have been hugely important in influencing the evolution of this scene and have spent most of their lifes digging for something different that has the quality mark, I think it would be more interesting to have a who is most influential or the old unsung hero of the scene title, which for me Gilly wins hands down.
-
Absolutely brilliant piece of emotive writing, great to be reminded of how enthusiatic, and a little obsessively mad, this music can make us. Would be great to read more stuff like this on here. For some reason, I keep thinking of Gary R playing this, although not his usual style, but it will always be associated with Dean Anderson for me, when Dean was leading the way in lots of stuff like this, top bloke, top taste, except in football obviously..........
-
Ehhh, its the first decent recommendation you have made on here and now you are disowning it, maybe I need less tonic after all.........
-
I was just thinking something along your lines how easy it is to ignore the "commercial" side sometimes, but when you think of Otis, Sam&Dave, Aretha, sometimes, and sadly not often enough, the cream did rise to the top, and ignoring artists like that means you just don't get the overall soul picture, I would take the second part of your statement differently and saying listening to Otis actually makes the Rare/Northern scene, as much as I truly loved my time on it, irrelevant in the bigger picture. An Aretha and Otis weekend I think!

Desparately sad news, although not confirmed by family, there have been rumours kicking around for a while, would love to hope they are only rumours. My 40th treat was to go and see her live in the states, she was ovbiously no where near her best, but there were a couple of occassions, especially the finale which me realise why I love her music so much, simply the greatest for me, and worth every bit of the trek to see her. I really hope there is at least one recovery in there for her, I think I will have a weekend of Retha, celebrate her life and toast to her health and hope it works.

Wigan wasn't open in 1969 was it..................

And if I had read this from some American I would have thought it was revisionist racist sh*t, who as usual want to play down the influence of African Americans in history, and no I am not saying you are racist, just saying you really should do a little more studying before you raise such a topic and spout stupid assumptions when there are lots of academic research on this. Read the following Leroi Jones - Blues People Ben Sidran - Black Talk Roots Of Jazz Charles Keil - Urban Blues Michael Harambalos - Soul Music Robert Harden - People Get Ready!: A New History of Gospel Music - none about Motown, not even really much about soul but essential if you are going to start dissecting social policy and cultural impacts, and history of African American music which is what you are, do it without knowledge and you really do run a danger of selling yourself very short. Its a fascinating subject if you are interested in wider than your own scene, although I suspect you focusing on Motown means you are looking at it from a Northern viewpoint which is always going to lead to misunderstandings. To deny Motowns place in the history of Black music is foolish, but so equally is trying to explain the sound of Black America by purely looking at Motown. No doubt I am coming over as a sanctimonious twat but its just to easy for people to put stuff up on here as if it is fact when its all pure conjecture.

I actually only heard this in last couple of years but no it just doesn't work for me, it ticks a lot of boxes for an NS dancer but something, not just the poor vocals, really grates and annoys me, mind you Bob and Fred and Johnny Rogers have always had the same effect on me so maybe my taste isnt flawless after all
-
And there was me hoping you had found a time machine and were looking for exact date so you could transport yourself back and shoot Joe Jama the day before he recorded it,. Any chance of you making a special version of that PC without that on it, save my FF button...
