Back to the most imporant thing, the music of this great artist, have still been listening constantly to his music this week and thinking wow, what a paradox of a man obviously. Gil Scott Heron - Waiting For The Axe To Fall - Arista Doing his thing, maybe his lack of ability to solve the problems he was obviously passionate made him the man he was, who knows, pure speculation on my part, but certainly he knew how to say it properly but always retain the musical integrity.

You're right it wasn't the moment. For once stop trying to make it all about you, frankly you are boring and not fit to place yourself in the same place as Mr Scott-Heron, And no he wouldn't thank you. He would just recognise you as another incoherent rambler he spent too much of his life around, And do the decent thing, don't respond and spoil this thread, delete this if you are any sort of man rather then the egotistical clot you come across on here as.

Candi Staton - The Complete Fame Records Recordings - Kent Cd
jocko commented on Dean Rudland's article in News Archives
Am I the only one in the world still not got this, why are Amazon still showing as pending if you lot all have your grubby paws on it It says released tomorrow, if I don't get it within 2 hours of ordering, I will hold Mr Rounce and Mr Croasdell personally responsible for my mental distress. I have not had this level of anticipation causing such an aural erection for many a year. And havent even bothered guffawing out loudly at the comment on why is her Northern biggie on this, just unbelievable! CMON Kent, I need it. -

You either need to set it up as a new file here Use the post clip and then go through the motions, that or if it is already on use the embed button in top right corner and then copy and paste the code that starts with rs Not as easy as it used to be, but still worth it for the pleasure of sharing the Dells. -

Okay last one for me or I will be working to midnight and beyond, put this on while ago, from one of my favourite LP's, and memories of great days spent in company of the man who made me buy this LP, Dave Molloy, eternally grateful for this and many other things to Mr M, And this song probably proves the old adage, they could sing the phonebook..... And lets not forget some of the great arrangements on this period, get the headphones on and listen to the percussion all the way through this perfection, that and the most soulful whistling ever committed to vinyl, fu*k me what more could you want Dells - Trains Boats And Planes - Cadet -

Ahh who cares about finishing the work I am supposed to be doing, this is much more fun. Changing my mind on what is my favourite track so often I should be furnishing a frock, this is just one of the greatest moments on vinyl, ever, fact. And as Bob says the long version only, just sit back, pop open the Gin, swill it around in the glass and listen, can their be any greater satisfaction. Dells - Stay In My Corner - Cadet Perfection. -

Possibly one of their greatest, but then whats not great about them, very few and I can forgive them. Surely if you had to describe soul you would just play Marvin to them. Baz hope you have bought a clean copy since this, cheapskate Dells - The Love We Had - Cadet -

Cmon you lazy blighters, lets remind the world just how the greatest (possible and probably) vocal group in our lifetime, probably ever actually, sound and look. Dells - I Wish It Was Me You Loved - Cadet Great choicesMr Reed, as you would expect, although haven't heard their version of INU, off to find it. Hats off and tributes to one of the top greatest singers around, Mr Junior, and lets not forget though just how good they sound together, I don't think he would have been as brilliant solo. Sounds that I will take to my grave as providing the soundtrack to my life..... The Mighty Mighty, Really Mighty Dells -
Spent last 2 nights recording more his music, still just really sad at this news, attached is a great tribute to GSH on Channel 4, full 5 minutes dedicated to this great talent

One more, paying my respects by sharing his beautiful if soul revealing music, and this is one the most beautiful for me. RIP Gil Gil Scott Heron - I Think I'll Call It Morning - Flying Dutchman
-
A couple more tunes, may introduce people to his wider perspective and the fact he was a fantastic lyricist. Gil Scott Heron - The Klan - Arista
-
Total genius, I didn't get him right away but love most of his stuff. Really tragic given recent circumstances, a very flawed individual that spoke for the world.... Gil Scott Heron - Train From Washington - Arista

Hi Barry, it was Stevie Smith, the whole thing seems to be dedicated to him as he sadly passed away a few years back. One ot those people who deserved a mention in the characters thread that was running a while back. Some great pics in there, most seem from the 80/81 period as recognise a lot of the faces. And the baggy pants current revisionists should take note that even by then there was very little visibility of "the uniform"

Afraid not mate, although sure you won't be surprised the title dragged me in, always loved this record, it was me who came up with the Valerie Simpson c/u title, VS being one of my favourite singers and I thought it was very similar in vocal phrasing. Never really seen many copies of this at all, probably not right for today's tempo terrorists either I do have it on one of my tapes from years ago, unfortunately have about 1000 tapes in one bag and 1000 track lists in another, so not an easy find, My first task of my retirement will be to bring them all together.....

Another use it or lose it (my latest, and last obviously, sub is on the way as we speak) moment I suspect. Always meant to mention it on here as it seemed rarely done, in all honesty thought twice about it due to lack of Northern coverage which probably meant it was of limited interest to many on here, and therefore potentially would just get negative comments, but it really was essential if you had even the remotest interest in the wider world of soul, some great stuff in it. Very very sad but understandable decision I guess

Superb tip Mark, know anything about them. Is it available in any format as yet?

Wow shock horror, young kids trying to get a part in one film are involved in another entertainment medium using what they have learnt from the first film, fu*k me, you will be telling me Natalie Portman isn't a real ballet dancer next! If you are trying to make any relevant point you are failing other than looking like someone trying, too hard.
-
I think this is probably the fairest comment Mark, although to be honest I have softened a little on the idea of a good documentary, warts and all, from end to end, including up to current day, explaining it, but in reality that would appeal to about 2.5 people so probably not worth it. Maybe when Mr Cosgrove finally retires he will spend his hard earned pension and his much more valuable time and knowledge on doing a good job. It is funny old thing, I was watching the Blackburn one done by Debbie Troops recently, and actually thought that was decent, if a little simplistic, and more importantly caught people and a time long gone in a way only documentary can. I was much more nostalgic about it than I expected and thought it was actually a reasonable representation of the time. On the night me and Bill Mercer spent all night behind camera man, threatening him if he even remotely turned towards us, and even trying to pour water in his, I imagine, very expensive camera. We were dead against it at the time, now there is a little bit of me that wishes it showed my presence. Bizarre, I am assuming given you only have one post and your last line this is a wind up, but just in case I will say I do not get this, you seem to be confusing people doing a fictional film with a documentary and they surely have differing requirements. I have never felt you have to be established on the scene to do a good job of either, you just have to be talented at your job and do your homework surely, same as films/documentary about anything. However history does show non scene people do a sloppy job so maybe I am being an idealist, I have said it before but Paul Sadot's play "got it", so maybe our best hope is someone on the scene to do the same with a film and/or documentary, however I don't think we should expect the same result from both disciplines. I think Soulboy proved a lack of talent and a shit writer means a poor job, but I would say that is regardless of the subject matter, just we are a more critical audience and therefore the product probably has to be more focussed and better researched, showing a more detailed understanding of the subject. As I say your last line leads me to assume a wind up, or someone who wants everything to remind them of Wigan, therefore maybe not the most balanced view! As usual Michael you provide the most spot on and thoughtful, if not exactly succinct , answer and probably the best one. However I love film/theatre etc, I would love for it to get the representation it deserves again, and I say again it is more about the talent of the people concerned than the subject matter that has been the problem, I truly believe put the groundwork in and we might get a good result, One thing I don't agree with is that any film should be viewed as an intro to the scene, or even as relevant to the scene today, it's a piece of art that should stand its own ground against other films, not against an all-nighter or a soul night, and should be judged as such. If it evokes emotions because of your connection to the scene then it is doing it's job. Soulboy, despite the writers arrogant plea otherwise, fell down because it was a shit product, poorly put together and very poorly written, it would never have made cinema if it wasn't for its USP of Northern. I too am truly hopeful for Elaine's film, for effort and actual thought put into the product alone, it sounds a winner, the fact she is immensely talented (and yes a good friend, but sure Colin Law will testify I am the first to criticise friends when I do not approve of their work!) just makes me more hopeful.
