  1. And another of their stone cold classics
  2. Some of their later albums were patchy but they generally contained a gem or 2 and this is a gem and a half! Having my usual trouble embedding, here is the link
  3. Although I think thats likely to be the slightly more brutal and lots less subtle Organised Crime Unit looking into that one. Re the resource issue, hot tip in our industry is that there may be no more resources available in HMRC but there is currently a large re-alignment of people from current reporting duties, ie. collation if information, to investigation, particularly in sme and sole trader area!
  4. You will get in trouble for remembering reality Toad mate, they even played upfrontish music along with the oldies there in the 80's. Some of my favourite nights of those days, but due to the music, the people and absolute chaos that was the 80's not the Bricks, although watching all the macho men, on our side, kicking and bumping the toilet door rather than put their hand on the crotch of the poster of the naked man on the toilet door was hilarous.
  5. Most Germans I know are too busy buying new records, looking for the next big thing and generally acting like the original inhabitants of the Wheel rather than worrying about a building that is the home for 700 geriatrics having a tea dance every Sunday, deluding themselves they have anything in common with the cool cats of the original Wheel. More nostalgic nonsense, build a car park and move on.
  6. One of the wisest things you have said, and one no-one could argue with surely. Hurry up and get back to normal............
  7. Last time I was at Butlins they were playing Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep, on OVO, and the dance floor was rocking.
  8. Absolute classic! Stevie mate, you are wasting your breath, everyone wants to answer the question in their head not the one actually asked, gives people like Kev a chance to remind everyone they were somebody once, nearly 40 years ago for 5 minutes, One Flew Over The Soul-Source answers is the next great film to be made. For the record being under 60 and not that interested in nostalgia, neither version does it for me, and saying SITS is better than WWWMB is frankly barking mad, mad I say. Now there is a statement for you to get really excited about. I will come back in half an hour to see the 65 other records introduced into the answers provided.
  9. What LP version?
  10. Fantastic record, massive in the 80's, Dave Withers old Experienced Heartmenders cover up and carried on by Rob Marriot ~ Still dog rare I thought.
  11. Steve do you have back issues, or can you buy back issues via online payment, wouldn't mind the last 6 or so as don't think I have picked any up. Assume that record arrived safely?
  12. Just Ask Me 3 times in a row and your life will be changed.
  13. Worth a mint, one of the greatest, if not the greatest 70's songs ever, cannot believe they cut outro off one of the re-releases, absolute heaven as he swoops out "give me one more try, and then "money can't buy" , you can tell Pete even likes it but he cannot admit it. I have had 3 copies of this over the years, all without cover bizarrely. Anyone got one without cover for £50 these days???
  14. Is there an LP one anywhere that people know about?
  15. I am good, living life of a hermit, Been down Mussy a lot lately seeing folks, will give you advance warning next time and we should definitely catch a beer. I will buy even if you haven't found my LP!
  16. I have lapsed but condition is I trade my 45's in for LP's, therefore no net spending any more money on vinyl being the new mantra! So far I have sold about 6 45's totalling about £500 and bought about 150 LP's for about £1500, so plan is not quite working either financially or space wise. The other half is now trying to work out how there are piles of records appearing all around the house as I hadn't really thought about the LP's not fitting into the 45's shelves even if I did sell the same amount. Other part of the plan was to just buy some of the big hitting LP's that I had missed due to being too tight to pay full whack, funding it through sales. However thanks to the wonders of discogs I am filling it up with loads of little "collection fillers" that I left first time. The mental mind map of the demented record collector!
  17. If you get offered 2 Mr D then your tea will be waiting for you when you deliver it, it will be followed by a couple of free pints. Although should point out due to my advanced years, and advanced tightness on record prices, would expect to get the cheapest one!
  18. There you were, beautiful The promise of love was written on your face You led me on with untrue kisses Oh, you held me captive in your false embrace Quicker than I could bat an eye Seems you were telling me goodbye Oh, just a minute ago your love was here All of a sudden it seem to disappear Sweetness was only heartaches camouflage The love I saw in you was just a mirage We use to meet in romantic places Oh, you gave the illusion that your love was real Now, all that's left are lipstick traces From the kisses you only pretended to feel And now our meetings you avoid And so my world you have destroyed Mr William "Smokey" Robertson, doing what he did best A thing of absolute beauty to match any Rabbi Burns nonsense!
  19. Berry Gordy's influence went far beyond the music, especially on UK LP covers. A white set of Isley Brothers, having had a sex change, is a good example!
  20. I suppose now is also not the time to ask if anyone has got this LP or any of Etta's early LP's for sale cheap?
  21. Bloody hell, given the competition thats some statement......... :P
  22. Oopps you beat me to it. Hope your recovery is going well, and you are looking after yourself young man. I feel I should point out that this record may be too exciting for your new health regime so feel free to pass it on to me, being such a nice guy I would obviously accept grudgingly!
  23. Aww Gareth, some things are better unsaid. Been on my wants list for ages, have never seen one other than the usual guy in Japan selling a few years ago but price was too high for me (i.e. it wasn't in shillings) Awseome singer, his Live LP being a leader in that Genre, and his beat ballads on One-Der-Ful are some of the finest of that genre, the 3 greatest are That's How It Is (When You're In Love) A Lasting Love Tired Of Falling (In And Out Of Love) - 1966 One of my finer moments as a DJ was playing Tired of Falling out in a Northern spot, the dance floor played musical statues for 3 minutes but it was worth it for the sheer visceral pleasure of hearing that moment of beauty blasting out the speakers. Great artist and my biggest wish I had seen him live regret!Q
  24. Sad one, small but decent body of work His Highland 45 one of the most joyous pieces, despite its subject matter, of dance music of any genre, his breathless vocals on it and the break of Huh, Heartbreaking Woman is the stuff of Northern SOUL dreams, The whole thing just makes this thing of ours come alive. Probably one of my favourite records to dance to, just a shame it was such a rare occurence. And off course his Loma outing, which was my save the dance floor record (used many times a spot) and never failed. And Quicksand, unique and now for me one of those you had to be there records as in all honesty I don't think it has dated as well as the others, however it has a special place in my heart due to its times. Great memories of the buzz around the night Dave T bought it/played it first. Another one gone
  25. You mean me thinking its new or me saying its well done? I didn't say it was good, just a fairly impressive piece of sampling, which is what I thought it was based on below? I didn't say however, go on look carefully oh thorny one, that it was any good. A brand new hook filled song and superb female vocal over iconic Detroit instrumental gem "Exus Trek" which has been legally sampled. My ears are perfect, the tinnitus makes me appreciate anything with cymbals crashing even more now!
