  1. On its way, cmon Ady C I expect a handwritten letter when something like this comes out!
  2. It has been confirmed as last of an era, the real one 19/9/81. For the dance comp anyway. A couple of Selby birds just round from piano taking the pictures confirmed. Curly perms were just hitting Selby
  3. I know the two girls taking pictures in this, and have just asked what night it was. So will report back. Based on Ian's comment above, back to thinking it was 7th anniversary, my only anniversary and pretty sure there was definitely a dance competition that night, as well as a raffle for a music centre! Remember them
  4. Cmon boys, not many monsters. And still mostly deserving of being forgotten, IMVNHO! How about Chris Bartley Out Of My Mind, a monster to 200/300 people for a couple of years, rarely heard? Revealled as really Van McCoy on here previously?
  5. By 15000 what a great record, Cliff Steele played this out, and about 5 people instantly asked as I danced to it. Criminally underheard in my experience. Awesome record. Too subtle now?
  6. Despite being chief soul snob, love a good instrumental, often used to start any set with one, Romeos Loma and Frank Foster being the most notable. Normally they have to have balls and oomph, in the aggro soul camp, but the Holidays Making Up Time is soulful, yes I said that about an instrumental, it hurts. Detroit groove. And yes Guys Backstreet, jeez. Not normally keen on instrumentals of vocals, good ones anyway, so teh Little Ann just sounds sadly missing something. Bari Track is one of the obvious exception. . So thumbs up from me, but as always quality control needed, and more so with instrumentals.
  7. Just sent an email as order, so keep me one :-)
  8. That was the first thing came to mind but that was a year or so old by then, and he tended to play new releases. I cannot listen to both now, but will check later. I may even have added the do you love what I feel as a chorus because that came to mind :-) I was listening while working and managed to miss one track out completely so need a refresh. It took me back though, almost tearful!
  9. The earworm that is the second record has me now thinking it was Patti Austin Do You Love Me, Searling did play this and timing was right, is it an uptempo female vocal, with the chorus, unsurprisingly, do you love me. It does sound like a Rod Temperton thing, will investigate later. very enjoyable memory jerker, but as I said to Pete, may have been one of his last sets as he played more 60's and seemed to just blend them in, which he did with one night that was rumoured to be his last. It wasnt. Anyone found the echoes clips of his last night or before playlists on here yet? I just cant get search to work right,
  10. Pretty sure it is, the Pony Canyon Jap CD is the one to get, and it is Jazztronic feat Incognito as Kev says above. Not sure I have seen it on vinyl but haven't really looked for that sort of thing on vinyl. Its very easy to get on download (original format ) but suspect thats not what you are after. Try Mark (Fish) at https://www.firstexperiencerecords.com/ he imported the CD as new and will know if vinyl exists and may even have some old stock. Great record, few other recommendations of that sort if you like it!
  11. She Devil? It was always played off a 7". When Sam played it at Clouds Bruce, the promoter, told him to take it off half way. Awful record, I have a 7" somewhere in the depths if you want to offer a large amount for a never known before to exist 7"
  12. Agreed. I think these have had some sort of remastering, never seen such clear pictures, especially as I assume they were taken from the Balcony. The third one is the 7th anniversary dance competition I think, John Nielson from Scotland in the cerise (posh pink) top, he was against Vernon. There are various pictures of that night on FB. The others all look 81, but busier than many nights, when it was rumoured of closing a few times a full bus from Scotland came, possibly late Summer 81 and I would think the middle one is one of those nights as look like a few familiar faces up top right where we all sat, stood and danced. Or in the record bar where even by then I was finding myself more and more! Edit on closer look the first one looks maybe older? And now wondering if the John N competition was last night in September, did they have a dance competition that night, it looks packed. I think in short I'm guessing, badly Anyone confirm?
  13. It was freshly covered at Stafford, or even slightly later, by Guy I think, Not to say it hadn't had a bash before, lots did.
  14. I thought you never went to Wigan?
  15. It used to be all over the net but just googled it and cannot find it. I did get a link to this site where Chalky had put up an Echoes cut out with Searlings mid 81 chart but cannot find it now. Someone smarter than me can possibly find it on here. He finished with RideOut Something Special, we cried, he went off in a huff.
  16. Cmon Mr T, get the titles up, cannot see it at work otherwise, so far only recognise the Lamont Cranston!
  17. Pretty sure that was near end, it carried on to Rotherham but definitely played on a Saturday.
  18. I'll do that and enlist help as needed.
  19. That sounds like one of his last couple of spots, which pretty sure included the AM track I mentioned. If you can be bothered digitalising, and its not hassly happy to listen and track list. You can put it on the fridge and make it play everytime you go for a mid week beer
  20. I am only teasing you,Tyrannosaurus, it was all we knew, but to be fair towards the end he was playing some just brand new releases, and some real left field stuff, Alphonse Mouzon, being one. I did like it all and still do. Whether I would want to, or be happy hearing it a Northern do now is, hypocritically on my part, another thing. He was obviously unhappy in his last few spots, pretty sure he stormed out after one, although I was oblivous to it all so could have been swimming baths gossip!
  21. I didn't start going regular till March 80, so it was definitely on the change by then. You know I don't really remember Phylis Hyman at Wigan, or more I have it attached to Rotherham, but lots of mates do remember, so obviously just one of those quirks of my mind. Definitely Omni, as that seemed to appeal to the 60's only guys as well, who lots of the Edinburgh bus were, on the rare occasions that a bus went Saturday. Larry Houston, Cheryl Berdell, Bobby Thurston and Garry Glenn, I though were fairly regular from early days of going, Daybreak a bit later as the guy I travelled with bought Searlings only spare for £50 one night in 81 I thought (to find at least another 3 people also saying they had bought his one spare) then Bobby King. I was a massive fan of Rushbrooke, right through to Rotherham, he played lots of Carolina type sounds, although wouldn't have known that then, and I lapped them up then. But also various Magnetics, Ascots (two tiles) Creations Just Remember Me. I think it was The Other Ones, and a good example of almost blue eyed sound he favoured. Brady could also do the business and was playing some decent Modern stuff (no comments Peter S) at that time. I was young and just lapped it all up. But looking back, the quality is unquestionable.
  22. Oh get away and have your morning cuppa Petra, he wasn't bored afterwards telling us all about this stuff we could just go out and buy, and his small but perfectly formed posse of new apostles, youthful fervour demanding new sounds, danced on, knowing all the sounds so didn't need announcing! Thats one view, the other was he was a grumpy git towards the end, and not happy with the management, wanting to do his own thing. But to fair he would still enthuse about the music after his set, although you had to catch him quick as not sure he was there very long in these days other than his set. I was young and enthusiastic, it was my first couple of years, so lots of us lapped it up, despite the mix of decades, we only knew that. Just as well you don't have any of Sam's last couple, She Devil etc, you would be throwing your tape player out the window. If you ever need the one above track listed, happy to help!
  23. Is it just me or shouldn't a number of these stay forgotten......... Okay its just me Seriously though, not all of these were actual monsters at the Casino were they? I was thinking more of things played constantly and rinsed but not since, there probably actually can't be too many, other than some of Searlings big rarities at the end, and most of these have now turned up, often with Butch admittedly! Earnestine Eadie on Phil LA for years had that mantra, Dee Dee Gartrell c/u, for 15 years wondered where that was, and then on it comes. Sultry, sensual and then demaninding. A thing of beauty that still takes me back to a semi empty dance floor, but filled with enthusiasm of us young pups. Mr Whitson arms extended spinning fast, Mr Law doing his dervish on the dance floor, and me gently easing round and round, in the days I did that, ungracefully but with intent! Still one of the greatest records ever. It has a different artist on top side hasn't it? Often wondered if pre internet that kept it hidden, but its not really turned up yet has it!
  24. I was being a little flippant, but that is an interesting insight. Hence why his mighty Miko monster of malevolance, was rarely seen this country back in the day, and possible still.
