Chalky I will have, not sure where, give me a ring over weekend to remind me and I will go digging.

PS Do you ever sleep? :D

Sorry Bob, I was just judging it on you responding to Joan's quote. My best advise is don't try and analyse or understand this sort of categorisation of records or styles, its more about NS tastes. Having spent over 20 years around this world I am not actually sure I understand it....
-
Why would you call that second rate, I get the point you are sort of making, but as this is about scene type records this is going to be judged on differing values of first and second rate than you are making. Although as always historically and aesthetically you are probably more correct! The Strange World of NS and all that.......
-
Its not about you, as hard as that is to believe, and your taste though is it, its about music played on a scene that I suspect you have had little to do with for 30 years, only 25 years more than me before some smart ass comments! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

You mean I Got Soul by Gene Redding, being playing both sides of that for years in my silky smooth sets, just ask Mr Challoner, I did have a chuckle when that and Bobby Patterson got covered up by the Funky Young Thangs, both been standards for us straight ahead smooth as silk stocking soul boys with no categories for years. Anyway as I guessed you wouldn't even be able to agree on what sort of records you mean, never mind who is playing it. where and what is relevant. (Edit by you I don't mean the artist formerly known as Stig anymore, this is a general comment on this thread aimed at all the cheesy funky boys as are all others following, don't want one of those dodgy Black Leather coated Northampton dodgy geezers from 1971 paying me a visit!) I do agree with my Furniture designer here though, a good DJ can play some of this stuff, as they should, but with the lower tempo also obviously, and do it right, in a balance with just good records and forget this genrification of each individual record. And by these I mean the people who were doing this before the village idjuts tried to claim it as a separate scene, Mr Heard, Mr Sadot, Mr Santucci and Mr Thorley, but the stuff they were playing was just hard edged soul, the aggro soul we loved. It sounds like a whole load of people with limited exposure to the wider world of Black music are just shoving their tied back ears into the wider world of Black music to try and find some of the same as the above used to play but just getting it wrong. Sounds like our Scottish Chef going to the larder for material for an apple pie wearing oven gloves but pulling out soor plums instead as he can't feel the texture. There are guys, not least the Rippoles, who seem to be able to put sets of this together but I have never heard them in a niter context and not sure how it would work there. I love the stuff Joan seems to be describing, or at least the good stuff of which there is lots, but if I heard it out at a Norvern Niter (the new variation, I refuse now to use the word rare as in my opinion it has been tainted by recent debates on here) I would piss my baggy pants (the underwear that is not the outerwear favoured by some). Its fantastic music in a context and will keep students dancing for years, the odd tune will work in Norvern do;s but much of that genre only works in its own context for me. So it sounds like the same old issue, too many DJ's, not enough knowledge, playing Black music they don't understand and getting it wrong. Sounds like Micheal Procter/Bob Sinclair all over again! And before anyone reminds me, I don't go out, so technically I shouldnt post or care, but I just cant help shaking my head with a gin bottle stuck in my mouth at some of the pash that goes on with people masquerading as the New Breed. My mojo isnt only bust it is now under the rear wheels of my car that as soon as I am sober enough to stop seeing triple I will be reversing over to ensure I never get tempted again! PS Interesting to see the best examples of this that most people put up clips of come from a certain Chunky's you tube channel, yet the Phat one very rarely gets credit or spots. Maybe tied into the nepotism thread...... PPS And off course although as usual although no-one gives credit, the first of this stuff was Butch and Andy D at early Lifelines I would say, and do either of them get mentioned. No. Not once. They don't even get mentioned in the rare weekender, top dj's in the other threads. Its time people who think they are moving forward actually look inwards not outwards at the various Oldies scenes to see why current days are FUBAR. Off for a lie down, I may be comatose for some days.

Macmillan Fundraising Day.. Golf Shoe Shufflers 1st July
jocko commented on Chalky's article in News Archives
Right, finally been allowed out my Bankers Bunker, seeing daylight for first time of the week and fed up repeating my mantra Yes I work for a Bank, but no I am not a Banker, its not the same thing honest,. So hopefully you can all put away your Crosses, the Zip and the Petrol, for a little while at least! Anyway, on to the real news of this week, time is on us,most of the boys are in town, they are currently being given a pep talk by young Rubin, lMrs K has now taken over from Chuddy and has immediately dumped the crate of energy drinks he had bought and bought 3 crates of beer, for me and her, the rest are Athletes obviously. Only one to arrive is Tef who is coming on the train, we were worried today with the various issues on trains, but Sharon used her considerable influence and super powers to get them back on tracks, either that or she promised to talk to them all next week. So I appreciate we are all on overdose of donations, but if you can and its a cause that you care about then donations still gratefully received. Will hopefully be updating a number of mediums over the day, On here On Facebook per the Golf Shoe Shufflers event and if I can ever work f'ing Twitter about, follow me on James O'Connor @Curious1010 Game on chaps -
So if you like it its Northern if you don't like it its Rare. Very factual and dare I say rather bollocks. I have been meaning to ask for ages how you can tell something is Rare just by listening to it but thanks for clearing that up! No surprise the most sensible post on this knocking Pete off is Sebastians, one of our European cousins. This post reiterates my view, stop worrying about FatWiggy and his likes they are irrelevant and always will be to the progressive world, stop worrying about the 1000's dancing to whatever they like and know, its a scene that has as little in common with what I was into as Doo Wop or Rockabilly scenes. Start worrying about the people who think it is cool to put on a room for their 40 mates, telling everyone they are into "Rare and Underplayed" but don't have a clue on how to articulate that. I now f***king hate that saying because of on here. Just thinking your cool isn't getting it! Start worrying about supporting half a dozen top DJ's that have top end kit, there aren't many more than that despite what the 4562 "rare and underplayed" DJ's keep telling themselves.
-
Ehhh that is my point soft lad, as one of your most ardent podcast stalkers followers, I am well aware of your change in path and I have hardly bought any new music since you changed tack, so I am ordering you to get back to new music as its too much hard work for me to find my own. At risk of going even further off topic, how good is Discogs. I am almost into treble figures of cheap LPs off there this year
-
Stop pretending they are upfront DJ's! There in reality aren't that many that can cut it like that surely you would agree, And lots of that bad language may have been down to us encouraging him to vent. But about 45 mins of almost completely unknown records. almost all top notch. I repeat too many people playing at it
-
Yes but I was being paid, handsomely, while venting. And unless you are Jimmy Carr you contributed towards that so I thank you for both the opportunity and the reward. Now stop getting into what you don't understand and get back to finding new music for me, either that or admit you are seduced and I will arrange a lift for you to Lifeline.......

£í¢"š¬í¢"š¬ Shut it Loser. Awwright Dodgey boy that's it, not much will get me into this discussion any more but that one works. As someone who used to get into all of these debates, I can stand shoulder to shoulder to anyone on any Black Music scene and say its always been about the music, period, for all my boys (and the odd bird). The problem is when this debate started, before OVO started getting waved around like some Lightsaber protecting this invisible force that none of the defenders actually seems to understand, the argument in favour was ALL about the music. It was ALL about musical purity. The fact you don't get it is totally understandable, (not least since you have always been associated with the more girly scene known as "Pure Modurn Scene Not Born From The Superior Northern Soul Breakaway Modern Scene"), but the fact is you don't and will never get "It", or you would be over this side. That doesn't make you a bad person, slightly inferior maybe, but not bad. The fact is like many people including Russ, people spent large chunks of their life where "It" was all that mattered, and spent all their weekends and all their money following "It" but actually never discussed "It" because "It" was the unspoken word of some Spiritual like force for good that we all followed slavishly, that means people like Russ are more than allowed this opinion to protect a way of life that has existed much longer than the alternatives everyone now champions. Which is a long winded way of saying Shut It Loser. The more worrying issue, that sets people like you up to give the Righteous Ones a good comic kicking, is the fact that, as ably demonstrated on here, 90% of those waving that lightsaber, who don't actuallly realise it is fake and bought out of poundshop and has about as much power as a LibDem counciller in Glasgow, don't get "It" either, and actually make a mockery of "It", far more than any of these people on the other side. Therefore today the argument is more about whether the record played was the copy pressed before the artist had a sh*t or the one after, and makes a bigger mockery of "It". In this case then your statement above probably stands, but don't tar all with the same loo brush. Please. The first rule of the Progressive World is you don't need to explain it or argue for "It", "It" just is. And to be honest, getting back to Russ, who I have to say has me moist (aurally speaking) with his passion for "it", the fight is with people on the inside, not those on the outside. Just ask everyone who goes on about the other side and the damage it is doing, have they been to every Lifeline? Surely that is far more important than trying to create your own mini progressive "do". And that's not a dig at anyone directly, given the fact that there are only 4 or 5 Lifelines a year it gives lots of scope to have other do's but they should be seen as the support and not the main course. Until that is changed and Lifeline can be held monthly too many people are all just playing at it. In summary Mike (Jaco) made a statement about all of this on one other thread that summed it up perfectly and should have put this bed to rest for ever more. Go and search for it, if you get "It" you have the force. But you need to look for it to make sure you are worthy! Can I just point out in a very non smart ass way you do make it especially easy to be a smartass on here! And as predictable a response as the records are at the gigs you so lovinly protect, Welcome back Mr Rubble, say Hi to Fred for me. Picture below to stop you getting homesick. PS Being pedantic, if you can't tell the difference between a stamp and a record, it is difficult to take you too serious. F**k me, 29,000 posts and you finally nail it. Please don't post again so I can keep you on that pedestal, you have knocked a whole load of dust of it. Although I should point out, there are still only a handful of DJ's with their finger on the pulse, just too many don't realise, and one in particular that if any of those other DJ's had bothered to come upstairs at Cleethorpes at around 3am on Saturday they would have realised its time to stop.
-
Thats as big as I can get, you need to try harder!
-
You have been speaking to other half or you are a peeping Tom, The choice is yours...... I know, but contract rates are at an all time low..... But you have convinced me. I keep just staring at the Philly Box Set and DH one, thinking they actually look beautiful. Okay Rhino here I come. Did you get the Percy Sledge one?
-
I am, or at least I will be if I stop Fu**ing around on here and finish my work before midnight tonight! Down tomorrow afternoon if you are around, good time for a relatively restrained beer and a catch up!
-
Ooops sorry Mr D had sent me note about this and I had forgotten, although I was going to tell you to send them to Chalky! Can't wait, few pints for me for Andy D, if he ever comes out of his bunker, I believe he is a rarer spot than me in the outside world these days!

Holy Spirit - Spiritual Soul and Gospel Funk From Shreveport's Jewel Label
jocko commented on Ian Dewhirst's article in News Archives
Just seen this when I came in to whip you some more into working all weekend and hand delivering the outstanding orders! I am based in Edinburgh, did spend a lot of midweek down there last year, but not so much this year, bloody crap economy. Hope to spend more time down 2nd half working so if so will definitely allow you to wine and dine me on your expenses, nice cheap Chinese down back of D'Arblay street, should get a meal for 2 for £10 -
I really hate these threads with no refo soul, but appreciate that is sign of times,. Monster artist, in more ways than one I believe, but some unbelievable deep screaming soul! Will post some suggestions up later. Anyone buy his Rhino set? Is there much unissued stuff? Anyone want to sell one cheap? Always put of by the price but after getting the Donnie Hathaway French one, I feel they are essential rare artefacts for the future!
-
And no bloody wonder. I know you are always good with prices Mr C, but that was a bargain and a half! And then some.
-
Absolute propoganda bulls*it. I have only ever bought twice of his auction, most recent an album for about 40% (conservative estimate) of its popsike average, the other about £80 for a £120 (at the time) record. His values are only so big because of knobh*eads chasing rarity over quality and knowledge. Which to be fair is the answer to about 4 or 5 different threads on here at the moment..... Knock the knowledgeless sheep that drive the value up, not the provider!
-
I used to like them, but nowadays they tell so little of the overall story other than there are a whole load of people out there who have changed the definition of woolyback! And reading the ones that get raved on about on here I mostly find myself thinking the definition of something different has changed to something dear** and very familiar! Its busted, so fix it lads...... Edit should say that is the Scottish dear, aka expensive
-
I had always assumed, stupidly now I think it, he was the Unifics/Back For More Guy? Who was the Carnival Time AJ then Tony, same as either or neither? I love stuff like this, keep it coming guys.

Always liked this, in a contemporary style.
