Ah Joel, the irony of ironic humour sailing over 99% of peoples heads. .And altenatively, never a truer word spoken in jest. I know that feeling.........
-
Its always easier to get it right after one right cock up!! :D If you hear a load of Preston accents outside your house with balaclavas and 60's mafia t-shirts on, just deny your first one
-
Thank you for explaining, not too difficult to add something worthwhile other than implying that anyone who does like the record is a feckless twat that can't think for themselves and only look at the price tag, aka they aren't as special as you. Which I repeat in the case of that record is just a stupid point scoring exercise hence my scorn at your response. However spoiled by the rather typical comment later that since it wasn't played for a week in 1973 it can't be any good! Hmmm I give up. .
-
Yes very good, wherever it is I will ensure I save them for when you come back from your next 20 year scene break so you can catch up a bit quicker that time........
-
Not many people, including lots of other soul singers, would say Dean Parrish has not a hint of soul in him Another attempt at point scoring comment, and another one about as misguided as most US rockets in Afghanistan.
-
And the worst kind of vocals there is on the Northern Soul scene, Tommy Steel meets Will Hay. Thats why I don't like it and it makes me unhappy..... Right fun over, I am out of here...
-
Yes, agreed. Now back to you, seriously would be interested in why you don't like Mello Souls, i,e have you never liked it, grown to dislike it etc. Its a strange record for me, listened to in its own right, its the sort of record I would normally question its soul content which pulls it down for me, but in all nighter there is not many that get me more erect, as in stand up rush to dance floor. It has that Northern Soul X-Factor that Mr Vickers talks about, and its hard to imagine someone not liking it, but I don't like loads that I suspect people feel the same about, so its not questioning your taste, just genuinely interested in what kills it for you.
-
I am shocked at that, but I could have taken it if it wasn't followed by usual lazy assed insult with no thought after it. Thats what I mean, Can we kiss and cuddle now?
-
I would almost certainly have done so, but that was a while ago, so my mission over next few days will be to find that and come back on here with comments. I was being serious about a thread on sweet soul being interesting. To me anyway Now you really are taking the pi**, visibility is about 3 yards here and its chucking it down, hence my mood matching Pete's!
-
He is shaking his finger right at you.....
-
Its not about it being funny, its about it eventually being annoying...... You are not listening, I would love to hear peoples opinion about why they think certain things are overrated, it would make me listen again to some records and it is the sort of debate I like, I was about to ask Matt for example why he does not like the Mello Souls, however the EP posting threw the red rag over my eyes Some knumbnut saying people only like Eddie Parker because its rare however brings debate to a level of stupidy that sadly prevails too often on these threads, hence my point. Its like the soul police one now, its normally used by people who don;t like peoples opinion and just throw that in with not thought. I repeat, pathetic and peurile. And do you want to highlight the last positive thread??? Re the balance thing, negative is what gets people juices flowing in here for one reason or another. And before Mike says anything, I know, I should start something positive rather than be a moaner myself. Off to think off one in the drive home.... PS Shut it......

I cant get more than 3 CD's at a time off my machine, which is why I didn't enter. I couldn't complete this time and even with external CD it just won't work so I have given up. I have gone virtual now, just need to load them somewhere!
-
Oh for FFS, get one of the kids to read this out to you, (a) ITS NOT ABOUT SAYING THEY DON'T LIKE SOMETHING, ITS ABOUT A BUNCH OF PEOPLE, ALA THE EDDIE PARKER COMMENT, WHO DON'T HAVE THE INTELLIGENCE TO ARTICULATE WHY THEY DON'T LIKE SOMETHING, INSTEAD THEY THROW POINTLESS, AND VERY INACCURATE IN THIS CASE INSULTS. It is just boring, I am willing to spend all day explaning why George LemonVoice is crap, which obviously everyone would agree with, but equally why Johnny Rogers and Utopias are rubbish. Thats interesting, not pathetic peurile insults. Although I can do them as my ironic response to you showed, although I suspect as always my ironic comic genius was only evident to me, as always. (b) It would be nice, just once in a while for people to talk about the music they love, and why, then people can disagree, but some positivity about music would be nice, Its supposed to be our major interest. And it is about soul, then even better, I won't hold my breath. That is not asking for a prozac style world, just bemoaning at the moment its all negative. Happy now Petra? Anyway, shut it loser.
-
Its got soul in the title so butt out, stick to talking about that 3 year period in the 70's that you cannot get out of. And you obviously know as much about disco, that is really soul, not disco that is John Travolta, so butt out part 2! Or should I say, shut it loser. Thats not what I am saying, you know I am up for a verbal ruckus when time and situation calls for it, I will argue with anyone over what is worth arguing about, but threads like this get far more attention than anything talking about good soul music and good soul artists, which more than a few people are interested. And threads like this, used to have some comic value but now it turns into a soul police/rarity fascist argument rather than the lack of merits of certain records. So butt out part 3, if you had seen my original response you would have seen I was more than up for a bit of verbals over this, just can't be assed. Which is butt out part 3 in case I did not make that obvious. I take it the kids ate your chips and messed up your shirt so you thought you would grump on here. Tell them well done from me.
-
I was going to say that before being distracted by an attention seeker! It would be nice for people to talk postively at least about the music, once in a while. I think that Sweet Soul thread is crying out for you to start it Bob, I suspect there are many people on here like me, who don't have a clue about it and would love to be educated. In a nice way!

Actually I surrender, the lunatics win. Running off to join the Foriegn Legion, the Soul Branch...
-
Which is surely about 22.50 Euros too much. Bloody woeful record, sorry Ged, your standing as man of impeccable taste has to be slightly downgraded to, man of nearly always impeccable taste.....
-
Marvin Gaye's version of Its Not Unusual on the 4 CD pack Denise LaSalles definitive (Yes it is Mr R) version of Its Too Late Confused with the soul covers of soul songs but hey, whenever is straightforward on here!

Trust me there are much more embarrassing gaps, they are being stealthily filled behind the scenes so I can then say, oh yes had them for years when asked..... More importantly a man of your much increasing years and even more importantly family duties should be thinking of getting rid of such albums cheap and cheerful to make more room in the house for the kids..... I can help there..... Shhh - they are the Devils spawn and only non soul fans collect them, allegedly and lets keep that rumour going Although that is music to my ears re prices, I suspect it is bad for all as people like you say can't be assed with effort to source them or just keep them as not worth hassle to sell. Its actually a bit like Northern situation, there are still a couple hundred LP's that will sell all day for high 3 figures with loads of demand but the rest are just discarded. Oh well another 6 months digging and then see where I get! Re the mountain, now be careful what you ask for. In the old days that would have merited a 2 week holiday from work and blowing the holiday pay, sadly 2 weeks in Leyland just drew a look from other half as if I had lost my mind, again. Agree about that shush, but as I say I am thinking it is actually making it more difficult to get these LP's on these shores. Its amazing how hard it is to get fairly well known artists from late 60's, not sure why I am a regular customer on discogs Wayne, although maybe we should keep that quiet also, having bought about 200 way below book value from there in last 12 months. They do have most of the above but they are either too expensive (book value in my world is divided by 2,twice, before arriving at a price) or are in States and I prefer to buy over here at moment, probably going to have to give in though. Hope you are well, haven't been in London this year hence radio silence! The man from Musselburgh says yes, just let me know total for both, funny coincidence was just recording the Audio LP and single this morning, Qualidee new music for all the boys out there that don't already have it, although my speaker hum returned towards the end, hope that's not your anti boot device kicking in...... PS just a reminder most wants still wanted, cmon you lot there must be some out there......
-
Sometimes it is the no soul that is the problem.............
-
I amazed at the lack of any response on here for LP's, is everyone hanging on to them or is every on here satisfied with their inadequate little 7"ers! I await with interest Steve but feel I should remind you, mentored by that great man Mr Dunn, I did try and negotiate on the price of some of your pound box, you maybe should be prepared.......

Updated - cmon on you lot, get digging Okay, a punt on some LP's that would fill a hole in my record room, and my Heart, although not my Lovers record sleeve per FB on Friday, cryptic Moi! Step away from the LP, unless you want a visit from some of my dodgy uncles I was telling you about at golf........

You are trying to apply logic, reason and common sense. None of these apply in the world of NS! Now get some shut eye, Saint Obama is looking over you! Fair summary probably what I was saying above, not as clear though (as usual for me!)> To be fair I am sure people thought of it that way then, it is just that the logic applied to what is, what is not, what might be, or what could be Funk now seems to be applied to any record that some people think is new and could be played! Which leads to the contradictions you highlight. I present the Ann Peebles hip track as evidence!
