  1. I was just playing this the other night, and read on Facebook people actually debating if it was any good, I shouted at my screen, expecting them to hear in my simple old man mind, NO ITS NOT ANY GOOD, ITS FU**ING FANTASTIC, nay beyond fantastic, one of the best unreleased 70's since Bridge and that is saying something. They went quiet after that. Really rate this, Andy Whitmore was just saying it must be Louise that is picking the tunes as there is no way a bloke from the Midlands could have this good taste. A bit harsh I thought but you know that Andy. Just buy it now, and look for the Fairplay one too, that should tickle your fancy and get you in the mood like your partner refuses to do since your operation. Top label.
  2. F**k me, lunatics taking over the asylum If they don't dance first time, play it 2 or 3 times in each spot till they do. Bunch of lightweight Nancy Boys masquerading as DJ's in current scene. Said in a Keb accent and you get my views I suspect. I am off for some raw gin, my eyes are bleeding after this,
  3. Ah where is the much underrated Mr Trouble when you need him. In a similar thread many moons ago, he said that as big a problem as the number of incomptetent DJ's, were the growing number of incompetent "punters", and the dumbing down of the average punter being far more to do with the poor music than the dumbing down of DJ's, as rapid as that was happening, Who would have thought Mr trouble was actually a prophet, seeing the future of Northern Soul. The future has arrived......
  4. Good comedy writes itself, live and let live but call lots of people who disagree with you soul police and snobs. Pure genius. Your events sound good, my mum and dad used to go to them but gave up in their early 80's as it was too much for them. They were called tea dances back then.....
  5. You should know not to say that even in jest, your inbox is probably currently about to explode with all the offers, just in case you are serious........
  6. I have seen dj's using 8 tracks in the House world, and mixing perfectly not just cueing up. I have also seen a DJ, same chap DJ with holograms and laser led light streams (hard to explain, google Kerri Chandler Southport on YouTube) which meant he mixed the music as well as made new music during it. Very impressive, although appreciate it is totally irrelevant to ongoing debate. Although I am now always sure these debates are actually Monty Python researching some material which will have me scratching my head watching it on telly, thinking how come I have heard this before. Surreal. Opinions eh, everyone has them only mines are right as a famous dictator once said.
  7. COUGH COUGH, FORGET SOMEONE. At least give me recognition for always ensuring there was noone left in the hall by 8am!! PS Mr Walls for earlier comment I will deal with you later, but, correct me if I am wrong, which you know I never am, I always thought that, even in lands that time forgot many years ago like fife, phones worked 2 ways.....
  8. Can see why you do what you do, call out an issue, state the obvious, don't propose any resolution and then blame someone else for not finding it quick enough! I assume you dine regularly with the much maligned on here politicians……. And it could be a deliberate ommission because (a) Majority on here sadly don't know, or care, who he is and everytime I mention him my mailbox is filled with people asking if he was the wrestler that finally unmasked Kendo Nagasaki and why is that relevant to all nighters. (b) He is a miserable bugger who never even gives me cheap, never mind free, records like all my other friends do so I have withdrawn my membership of his fan club. © It goes without saying every spot he does is great so it would be unfair to single out one and for last 20 years has been so far ahead of the game its almost patronising to say it as everyone knows it. Don't they? (d) I was trying to be controversial. But since you mention it somewhere in between 3rd and 4th I should mention his spot at Bilston (Scotland, not that end of the Earth poor mans imitation in the South) when he was pretty unknown to most of us, he came on and blew the place away, a star was born! And he danced to at least 2 of my records as he followed me (insert obvious egotistical statement of your choice for me here). I would like to say first time he played Mello Souls but cannot remember that. There Mr Supergrass (in work as well as out some could say) I have fixed that for you…….
  9. Paul "Trouble" Anderson Wednesday May 25th 1994 The Loft Camden. I suspect not many may agree.......... Seconded by Richard Searling Wigan Casino Saturday January 17 1980 (Give or take a week, or maybe a month or two) It finally clicked and I had reached Northern Soul puberty. Pretty sure all 37.5 attendees agreed. Thirded by Dave Withers (or maybe Greet, i was young and learning) - Wigan Tiffanies Oct 1981 - I had grown up, All 64 attendees, including the 62 DJ's present definitely agreed, Guy Hennigan - night he played Clyde McPhatter for first time Then Guy/Keb/Gary R/Dave W/Pat B for leading the way too many nights to mention, in the "dark days" Goerge Sharp/Chris Plant/Dave Allcock etc for showing the collectors way on leading us out of the dark days. Robin Salter/Adam every night for leading us the modern way. Me on the last night of Allanton. Can close the thread now think that is pretty definitive!
  10. The alternative theory, from people who were there obviously, I was still painting my face with lightning strikes, it was too soulful and subtle for the average 1976 punter.........
  11. Thank me with free LP's and we will call it quits. I am still nice that way!
  12. I didn't know Mr S was still on here, thought he had also gone into hiding, focussing all his energies on trying to improve his golf handicap, unsuccesfully, and dedicating his life to ensure his son doesn't end up with an accent like all those dodgy North East lads he now hangs about with. Mr S are you out there?
  13. I dunno, do I need to do every thing for you. Get on to FB and contact Sue and Simon (Moll) they are now in Australia and see him but he has gone underground and hides from everyone now, lives somewhere in Sidney massively fat and with 15 children** so would be good to get some pictures. Glad to see still enough left of the profits from Allanton to keep you still flying you round the world doing your promoting talks. **Only one of these facts are true, but what is the internet for if not spreading falsehoods.......
  14. This looks fantastic Ian, were all tracks on this actually on Acid Jazz? Never knew that about loads on CD1, The Nervous Track was the first ever non vocal track I bought, recommended by that man of great taste Robin Salter who says once I had that I would never look back as in getting full on into house not just through the soul scene, he was right. Some great memories of hazy Sundays in London town from that tracklist. Another must buy.
  15. Jeez when did you get so sensitive, I will remind you of this next time you are wading in on a thread. I thought you were a tough Geordie, Are you denying my charge..........
  16. Not sure that is not romanticising it a little Steve, I thought the DJ combo were making tracks before this anyway and getting the model to lip synch in PA's. They were sued fairly heavily by Loleatta Holloway and Dan Hartman over that track and Martha Wash also did, I think, as they had used her in the studio but used the model again to lip synch, hence not paying Martha for her work. I thought the MW tracks were prior to this. It was more than a little obvious when you seen their "singer" against the sound she was supposed to be producing....... Certainly CJ McIntosh and one of the US producers involved with Martha Wash were less than complimentary about BB methods and their lack of accounting skills and their overall production "skills". Although pretty sure the guy Danielle dj'd at Ministry of Sound later so maybe they all kissed and made up.
  17. Way before my time, 76, I only remember if from Stafford, but then lots of things from that time had a couple of gos earlier but didn't make it. Do you know who played it at Wigan Not sure I agree it was below the radar in the 80's, it was fairly massive then, Not sure who was first then, I always think of Ion but suspect someone like Guy may have had it first, anyone remember. Fantastic Northern Soul. G
  18. And I repeat not one of your finest moments, :D John Coltrane would be choking on his horn when he heard this!
  19. And how many Black Box, other than the Loleatta Holloway rip offs, have you actually heard. Its one of their worst records, puerile pop, and that is saying something,
  20. I never realised this was played at Casino, when was this?
  21. Yes. Double devils advocate and actually a statement that needs much more breaking down, however of to play golf so will see where this has got to when I return.....
  22. That makes perfect sense. It was the real time bit that was bothering me, although I do fancy learning to beat mix Northern like Colin Curtis (no smart ass comments about my style back in the day from an Allanton regulars). Off to find Mixmeister now!
  23. I take it you have to do one continuous recording of all the MP3's and then create one MP3 file to upload? Or does mixmeister actually create the flow of the individual MP3's. I only use Virtual DJ and briefly so not sure if it is same idea as that?
  24. This and your earlier post, in fact that more so, is the biggest pile of ignorant pish I have ever read on here, which is saying something, I have read it a few times and can't get past it being a wind up and just fishing. Otherwise a great indicator of how people hanging out the OVO banner have as little clue about what that actually was meant to stand for as those who buy the new carvers. And cause even more damage to an already fataly damaged scene. Not to mention, the most important point for me, the ridiculous damage this does to labels like Kent who do far more for my music and its people than any f**ked up view of a scene. I give in. Again
  25. I was trying to be cheeky, and failing! Actually think I may have a 12" of this, which you could have had, but thats a bit late now..... There was, it still features Mario Bondi does it not, and was a Cleethorpes monster on initial release thanks to Mr Randle. Its slightly slower and better if I remember rightly although haven't listened to my copy in years. This version never came out on CD though did it?
