PS any dj that doesn't play for themselves, is a fraud and a knob, on my scene anyway!
-
Easy way to find out what sort of crowd and if you are in right venue, when someone asks you if you do requests, assuming you are the dj, you reply do you do them, when the bemused punter says eh, you then say my request is F**k off and play the jukebox, very quickly find out if you are at the wrong sort of venue in my experience, and what sort of punters you have! Its one of these arguments that there is no one answer, it depends on the venue and if you don't know the answer for that venue then you are a knob, whether a DJ or a punter. Mr Such's response sums up all that is wrong with the Northern Scene, or my view of the Northern scene, today however I suspect lots of people nodding in agreement with him. Stop pretending it is all one scene, there is the real one and the pretend one, and a fair few in between. Thank f**k I am retired, again!

Pretty sure I have this in house on an old ACE CD, not Kent, If it is the one I am thinking of it was out before I started buying CD's so pre 2002 (I know, I was slow!) Will dig it out tonight if noone finds any more info. It was a pretty good CD if I remember rightly.

Gregg Jackson - One For The Road - Kyp 1982 - Album
jocko replied to The Tempest's topic in Look At Your Box
Its a crap one tracker and should not go for any more than about £75 which is still generous given it is a one tracker and it is effectively a DIY press. Anyone got one for sale at that price Who in Scotland had these? -
Is there anything that says date when it will be available?
-
So why was it part of the scene then and not now. What is the difference?
-
Thats what I remember of him, really quite articulate with prose, which just seemed out of place when all you wanted to know if it was ac club crasher (wasn't that one of his descriptions). The king of the BPM counter too I believe a very influential man in his day so I assume most British releases from 70's onwards would have been his for free.

Aww Michael, don't start that old Chestnut again or I will arrange for Ivan Sproule to be repackaged and send back down to you guys!
-
You are arguing with old people that have forgotten their dad said the same to them....
-
Well Mr Sweeney, and your likee Mr Cane, I don't think I have ever been able to say you are both talking bollocks, and sadly this is another time I can't, but I think you are both being a little harsh, especially Mr Cane bearing in mind his comment about a deep soul CD that I made of purely Y2k music, although admittedly a large number of old school acts. As the wise Mr Sutton says, there are a number of us kidding ourselves, and having fun doing so. Its difficult to argue overall with Gareth's premis, and particularly the large large majority of UK people would agree I suspect, but there are a small number of Black Americans who disagree and this is good enough for me to keep kidding myself and occasionally digging out a gem that makes me moist and erect at same time, just like Sam Dees has always done. Surely thats enough to keep digging (although I should say that digging now for me means reading EMS and copying the more astute diggers on there) and saying thanks by spending £7 on a intangible music file. Its not for everyone, and there aren't very many signed Ms Heroins or This Heart Is Haunted, but there are lots of good danceable tunes that certainly are far more MOBO than large swathes of NS, and indeed cannot be denied as MOSO, if not just contemporary soul. I suppose it depends on if you believe only in creation or if you can can stretch to evolution. Long may these arguments persist as it means there is some relevant music to debate, for some. I am happy to debate this on wider soul basis, and even provide a few exceptions, but if people are genuinely trying to do this on a Northern only basis, which I suspect most so far aren't then I am out. After hidding my head on the brick wall smiley! And as usual John, I have absolutely no idea of the point you are trying to make through your numerous clippings, none of which seem to add together to make a coherent point. For someone who has such a great knowledge, may I be so bold as to say you often lose people with what seems slightly researched and poorly put together threads, that turn into almost stream of consciousness like. Which is a shame as I suspect you are one of the ones I could learn lots about the music I love. Hopefully not taken as an insult, just some constructive criticism to help me get more from you, I am selfish that way.. .

Can't see soundclip anywhere, it's not the Turks is it?
-
I assume you mean long haiered blue eyed soul chap, some reasonable, if a little MOR LP. Better known as backing singer and songwriter. Great info about Utopias and googling him he seems to have moved from Detroit to NY so it seems to fit.
-
I have the Loadstone one but not the other, don't remember it being much good to be honest, I assume not much good without the other one, but can dig it out for details when I get homei if that would be any good. Cheers Jock

My comment Your interpretation of my statement. Accusing me of thinking something without evidence is false. Accusing me of saying the opposite of what I say is false and spouting shit. Accusing me of not knowing a disco record just because I had a different opinion is getting into a slanging match. Denying all of that is being a liar. Me getting involved is f***ng stupid and makes me a half wit, but as I say I am fed up of people wrongly having a go and not having decency to admit their part. If you are intentionally winding me up, well done, it worked, Sorry everyone, I am really off, honest. back to You Tube clips etc please.
-
So you like a comment that says I know nothing about the subject, when I have actually said very little and you obviously know nothing about me, and you accuse me of making some judgement of you, and you name me in it so I am flabbergasted you continue to deny it, that is completely the opposite of what I said and neither are slanging or spouting shit. Really. Do I really need to requote the line where I said you had a valid point and would have liked to debate, or are you just taking the usual blinkered approach and refusing to debate the facts. I cut out because you were more interested in supporting a mate than facts, which was dissapointing. Too often some peoples way on here to just throw muck and I just wont have it, as much as I only want to get involved in positive. And do you want to physically show me initially where I said it wasn't healthy or where I was anything other than willing to debate the subject. Interesting you don't seem to have a go at any one else, so I can only assume you think it is healthy to insult people into the music with the Patrick Hernandez jibe. Your condemnation sounds more than a little one sided. As I say I said nothing negative about you other than insulted your school boy jibes. My right. I really am off here, as I say people are having fun so if you have a problem with me in future PM rather than stick my name against a false accusation.
-
FFS do you want to show me where I said anything of the sort, read it back and you will see I was saying the opposite of how you have taken it. I don't think I could have been any clearer. Christ on a bike I am staying out of this to let people enjoy it but I won't sit back and yet again someone has a go at me based on their warped perception rather than reality. Same old on here, attack the person not the points. If you actually read it it was your rather school boy like of another post was the only ones casting doubt on anyones knowledge, hence my sarcastic tweedle dee comment. Niavely I expected more from you based on your other postings No actually if you read it back the main stumbling block was people getting all uppity because people might have a different understanding from them, based on a whole load of different scenes and the usual assumption making. That’s normally called debate. Other people were making same point as me but as usual people were more interesed in the person. There seems to be no stumbling block now so why not join in rather than try to score points. Actually read back to our exchange and you contradict yourself. Lots of posts on here prove Barry's points and lots of early posts show people judge this very one dimensional, which I suspect was Barry's point exactly. I will not put any more negativity round this as some great stuff going on but I will correct each time someone decides to spout shit involving me.
-
No just a repositioning of opinion and a shift in perception. As you know I am never wrong.
-
Yes Mr O. We have been debating this for some time. I think Andy has the casting vote here, definitely.
-
So Andy, are you saying it is real? Or do I have to wait for the book to know? I have always been on the doubting side due to its sound, the complete polished sound, i.e. its not just a demo he knocked up and someone release it, and the fact they did it in his own name ignoring one of the most allegedly toughest companies to go up against owning that name. It has always felt too unbelievable. However if you are saying its real that is good enough for me, my doubting cap is gone. As for that Jim O lad, never trust a salesman!
-
Sorry mate it was getting interesting, but I am bowing out before it is spoiled totally, Maybe see you over at the disco forum!
-
You really are pathetic, I am off, just shows knowing lots about music just doesn't mean you understand. I am leaving you to your bullying
-
F**k sake, another case of buy one get one free is it. Tweedle dee and Tweedle dumb. And I challenged Mr Dewhirst opinion, as I often do, he decides whether he accepts it or debates it further, as he always does, but never does he come on saying I am right so why are you daring not to agree with me. You have a valid point and one would find many agree with it. I disagree with it, as is my right. It would have been interesting to debate it you as I suspect you will be aware of Disco Joints etc. However, Patrick Hernandez is not a valid point and I have a right to show it up for yet another churlish attention seeking attempt. Well actually I don't have a right at is not good for the site, I just find it hard to ignore Bullies. And what might have been an interesting debate is now spoiled, I am off, will leave you to it.
-
And calling Patrick Hernandez a disco record isn't being. How come you can do as smart as you like but cant take it. Maybe take some of your own advice, or as I say, shut up.
-
Maybe in Wolverhampton Mecca they told you it was, they lied. You are so innocent and naive sometimes, you are almost cute.
-
Stop watching BBC4, read some of the books talked about elsewhere, and at least get a semi educated point of reference. Or even better get into a relevant disco now, its still happening. Or stop talking rubbish. Mr Fish, all great disco records.
