  1. And then, Dean Anderson's tip, bubbling under, then it came North, to Colin and I and the rest is OurStory, not aged well but bloody hell it worked back then
  2. Ooh I like this, feeling melancholy today and this helps. Mr Byrne was right, most records did have some exposure elsewhere, some were massive elsewhere but generally we were like Magpies and picked those that hadn't yet made it and sounded right here. However some big not yet widely known records Allanton has to take credit for introducing such as Willie G and Mack Rice above, new c/u at Allanton, mostly Colin, and then there was this. Bumbling along, Chris Plant, Butch, Gary R all having tried it but not too much, than 7.25 at Allanton......
  3. I have one on each label and would sell one, the Atco is definitely cheaper but if you want the Revilot I can do some digging for prices. Let me know if sorted.
  4. You said "but how many White Origin Soul Records are out there" that is a specific genre statement if ever I saw one, so to rephrase my question without my stupid assumption we were only talking about good music then just give me 3 white origin soul records, your exact words, and then I can understand what you mean and why you do not think colour of skin is any way relevant to soul music.. And I said musically prejudiced, of which I am very happy, as I then only really want to talk about the good stuff not the crap of any other origin, wtf that means, at least explain that phase to me and then maybe I can understand where you are coming from
  5. And still no one mentions their Soul of A Man track, their finest moment of many fine moments for me. Sometimes we overlook the obvious and this is obviously one of those records that deserve the accolade of Truly great. I love it. Think I put it on here before but can't do links at moment. C'mon someone slap it up and we can ponder greatness together for a short time.
  6. Phil how can you suggest Moodyman has no connection with Soul, you know better! :-))
  7. For me it's due to the quality, and number, of the unissued stuff. There is half a spot in there that would be one of the most exciting for a long time, the fact they were all quality uptempo Northern was for me the clincher. However I agree its no where near their greatest overall CD, which just shows Ady and Tony are actually much smarter in real life. :-)))
  8. Okay then, give me 3 great white origin soul records (not Northern Soul as the other thread) and then I might understand wtf you actually mean by that somewhat strange and frankly contradictory statement. The fact you see no link to Soul music and skin colour suggests history is not your strongpoint. However it becomes a little tiresome when numpties (word of the week) assume that when a soul fan complains about lack of soul in music he is so stupid he only judges by skin colour. I find Eddie Hinton and Bobby Womack equally great soul singers with Womack winning due to more great performances. Google and learn something. If you mean Northern then say so and I'll retire to my musically prejudiced heaven.
  9. Chill tune.... Is that what you bought it for? I think not, man up and stand up to those terrorists. Fantastic record and way below market value I would say.
  10. Lots of British pop records sound good for the first seconds, then the singing starts and its all over.......
  11. I tell you what, you have changed your tune now you are a buyer rather than a seller. I had to sell my 2 firstborn to be able to afford your records. Just added an extra 20% to that pile of stuff I had pulled out for you now..... Right off to freeze my bollocks off!
  12. Just like the first toke of a crack pipe, its clear you will be back. On toke 2 of this CD and I will be back. Stunning, although just to keep Ady on his toes, and I appreciate the last two tracks are historically relevant, but they are kack, so 100% hit rate for vol 2 please (although I should say thanks for putting them both at end, makes the ff much less hassle) Kent I think I love you....
  13. The same year Hibs won their first trophy in years as I missed the final due to driving down to 100 Club after it, so around 1991 and right group right time. Mr Parker and Mr Steele, proper night. I actually dj'd there, I played more straight ahead 60's, you probably still walked out half way through the first record :-))))
  14. I would up the storage size on your inbox pretty rapidly. Good cause though.....
  15. I was dancing to it while you and the other stuck in a time warp people were on their "break"
  16. You obviously still believe in Santa and the Virgin Mary if you are surprised, you would have thought being as old as you (according to Cliff Steele) you would know better :-)
  17. I probably fit into both, but differently (I hope) in mindset. Although very loosely in the DJ one, especially nowadays (no obvious comments from the floor please) and to stop me being tempted to DJ again I am considering seriously downsizing my 45's. The warped mind of a collector. However, off home to get naked and shout yipee!
  18. Its what all collectors dream of. Its what DJs consider a liability! I sit in my record room naked shouting yipee in celebration of the beautiful things most of the time, doesnt everyone? Rob Marriot even drew a picture of this on one mad weekend.
  19. Hi Bob, so the Soulful Twins on Sable are same as Billy and Betty on Sagport if I am reading that correctly? Brilliant stuff as usual, will do my ironing to that tonight
  20. You have great taste 99.9% of the time, but you also like a lot of my rubbish box? A certain Herr B from Hamburg has my junk box copy of this fairly cheep. Oh hold on, maybe its me.....

    Cecil Womack RIP

I seen this on Southern Soul forum, very sad, Great singer, seen them live twice and thought they were fantastic, fantastic voices and they also wrote some great songs. Hard to believe but track below was played at all nighters back when it came out.
  22. During its popularity phase I dug around and found I had 6 wd's of O'Jays To Prove I Love You, I gave the extras away at Lifeline weekender even though a bundle of nupmties were paying stupid prices for it. Having collected Philly I just bought whatever was in front of me, I still have 2 WD's and 1 issue of Anthony White that I really should sell.
  23. B side is more than fantastic, its beyond fantastic deep soul, one of Kents first slow LPs that help turned me onto music like this. Mr Independant
  24. Its called greed! Having always prided myself on knowing what I bought I would like to laugh at all those above, however now having a sorted record room I realise I was delusional having found about 30 singles doubled and about 50 LP's!! Watch for the list going up soon...... Mr Trick, glad to see you are still out there, will be calling you around lunchtime for a quick chat.
  25. I was going to say sure I had seen this in the dark corners of a record room......
