  1. Ahh forget it, I am off down the Bowls club, nothing to do with me anymore.
  2. PS If you said dance ones, that would be different obviously, lets throw this in. One of the greatest soul dance records, ever. Fact. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDS7boNwtKk
  3. There can only be one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oB9nFhzQtCY
  4. [quote name="Dave Moore" post="1998418" timestamp Hands up those that think that to be an acceptable situation! If this is true then Wofrum is doing no-one a favour. And whilst legal situations may be murky who is really going to complain or be precious about it? If anything the producers of said music probably have legal entitlement anyway. Gordy!
  5. You can't lick Sutty's offer surely!
  6. Chuddly Dudley has reserved my ticket I believe so looking forward to it, and will now start drumming up some support. She might be Moodie Maydie but just think of her voice, its impossible not to imagine the sheer orgasmic ecstasy of her Arista material floating through the room and cuddling and caressing you like a secret lover. I am aurally aroused already. Her CD is actually pretty good and wouldn't mind hearing her doing her version of The Look of Love, she can sing that to me backstage later if she likes.... And I hope those London soul fans that normally get altitude sickness on the rise of the M1 out of London are taking their travel sickness pills and getting ready. No ifs and buts, this concert will be second to none, and you need an doctor, aye you do, if you don't leave home tomorrow, and start walking now if need be to get here. No deposit needed but no return to sanity if you miss this.
  7. Could you talk quieter about this interesting soul stuff, its impacting on the political debates... Well done Mr C, great CD and rightly recognition of the stuff you Dean and Mr Rounce are doing at the moment, the quality is immense, get them to get the Fame stuff in there, get sending samples away. More sales more releases I assume!
  8. I assume this kind of thing is for the plethora of "Vinyl Only" clubs that seem to be springing up, particulary inn Stockport, I thought these were for middle aged swingers at first, then realised I was right....
  9. I am pretty sure Gerhard who used to run the very good Weekender there moved out of City so not sure he runs anything there. A UK chap Ed Fotheringham (?) used to DJ at some decent but very irregular modern dos, and there are some trendy bars that can play good music. But it wasn't great in my days. It depends on when you go as weekend is very different to week days, given business population as John says. And some areas are just dead at weekends. If you are there during week restaurants can be very busy so sometimes wise to book. There used to be a very good hard techno club at airport if you want something different :-) I can recommend some good areas for pubs and restaurants, although its a few years since I last went, Not sure how many of the German guys/girls come on here now, so you might have more success on FB (Mr Franklin has lots of German friends at moment) . I know one girl who did live there, Krissi, I can ask on FB if no joy here,
  10. Oh good, another Kev Roberts convert here to promote Stoke. Put the lights off as you leave please.....
  11. No, I said nowhere did it say it was the story of Wigan. Hugely different emphasis. I have explained the context, carry on nitpicking, as the chap above says, there will be people who want to pick fault no matter.
  12. Has Mr Cato been overdubbed for the posh end of the market, or was he smoking more in those days..........
  13. Not sure why any of that changes anything I said. Taking my Scorsese example further, (I am a fan in case its not obvious), one of my favourite books is Age of Innocence, and Martin does a very good filmed version of it, New York plays a huge part in the story and is part of the success but its not a film about New York, and guess what, Martin wasn't even born when it was set, never mind living in NY. I know Elaine fairly well, so you don't have to tell me anything, and one of the things I think she has done brilliantly is not get caught up in what she has done or not, I would imagine because she knows fine well their would be lots of people looking to pick the head of a needle size hole in anything she said, In what I have seen she has just talked about her passion for the music and the dancing and peoples passion for the whole thing. Which most people that know Elaine would verify. So if it came over in a documentary I suspect it wasn't intentional, as you say she actually told you direct her experience. What more do you want? As Mr G says above, virtually no-one cares about this, its all about the talent as a filmmaker surely?
  14. Interesting edit, but since lots of people will have seen your original words its maybe worth turning that round and saying lots of peoples positivity is generally in answer to lots of personal negative comments and competely daft comments as if it is somehow it’s a history of the whole scene. And I suspect lots of the positive people are jusn't being hopeful, they actually know just how much has been invested in this film in time and passion, script reedits, career time, research to get it as right as feasible and a huge investment of someone's life. The cash-in jibes particularly are so hilarously unfounded its pretty hard not get to defensive in all honesty. So to me most of the positivity seems based on some knowledge, whereas most of the negative seems to be based on things people are making up It just seems to be more people want to knock it just because they can, and for me, before I get accused of having a vested interet in being friends, I said the same for SoulBoy when it was first talked about and same for Paul Sadot's play, albeit before my SS membership, and like all art there is a risk of getting over excited, one was a huge dissapointment and one massively fantastic piece of art. I will let you decide which is which. I will say I was very lucky to see a little bit and the dancehall scene had me completely emotional, and had me right there, it was absolutely brilliant, to me that’s what it should be judged on. I do agree with you, it will stand on its story as a film and all along I have said lets judge it as a film, however lets give it a chance. And lets be honest if we judged all our films story on the trailers then I suspect we would watch a lot of Hollywood turkeys
  15. The hilarious thing is nowhere does it say its the story of Wigan, nowhere does she claim she went, and nowhere does it say Martin Scorsese was actually a physcotic paranoid taxi driver with a Mohican. Wonder if we should tell him his methods are wrong.......
  16. And why are you assuming that it doesn't?
  17. Wow, you just can't imagine someone in modern day having such bad taste, but then.......
  18. Thanks, use to collect the label so had all but 2 and lots of both demos and issues, as they were so cheap, but there were 2 issues, this being one of them, forget the other, took the best part of the 20 odd years of trying to get them, even though they were pennies when I did, one bizarelly in a record shop in London, I think this one.
  19. I have an issue and a demo, I thought the issue was quite a bit rarer, anyone else know?
  20. PS For a serious moment, and to fall into Keb's trap, I actually think with hindsight his sets were a lot better than some of us gave him credit for, Guy was always my look up to guy but when you go through these podcasts, he played some stunning records. So there Kev! And some shit, but who hasn't, hands up again......
  21. Of course Keb is a rampant Scottish Nationalist and still has plans to have all your heads stuck on skewers just South of Hadrians Wall, so this could be the start of his trap........ Always was and always will be a hero, whether he is right or wrong, and loves an opinion, and hands up here who said that Funk Sh*t would never take off, as I sneak mines up. Barrold, can you get me a cool drink when you have stopped doing the messages
  22. Peter get this https://www.discogs.com/Lynn-White-Blues-In-My-Bedroom/release/2406536 Some nice tracks on it too. Oops, Mr Reed beat me to it, always a risk of that when you start to post and get distracted by pesky bankers asking me to do some work!
  23. I think its self service, so if you log on you can edit, never tried it mind.
  24. Is there a link there?
  25. The Dells. End of discussion.
