  1. And some of us never had kids, far preferring to keep going out every weekend and not make trivial excuses for giving up during the "dark days", until we gave up because of boredom. But sure you get the picture, different strokes and that. PS Forgot the smilie so you don't worry about me being sad.
  2. Guilty as charged. I am 100% retired. I do feel I can say I have a rather informed opinion however, and I have said it before the people like you who just scream OVO at every thing are missing the point, I have always felt if you have to ask you actually don't get it. And therefore going to these venues WTF would you even care about whats getting played at Tommy's tea dance round the corner. Worry more about the quality of the music and why less people are supporing the quality venues and the rest goes away. Interesting how you missed these points out.
  3. Okay we are back to being 100% on side then!
  4. Well actually authentic Northern do's are , or should be! Sorry, everything else I like the cut of your jib. I thought you were actually agreeing with the above.
  5. Wasn't this thread more about legitimacy of reissues, and relevance to the artist, or am I just being hopeful of what could be a really interesting discussion? If Fryer could stop making millions from his 600 people a week and spend some time explaining the business behind, not figures obviously, and the process of getting these reissues done, people might be genuinely engaged and more likely to buy. Glad to say for anyone popping in, the current Jazzman staff are much friendlier and much more customer focused these days.
  6. I think there is a growing load of guys in bars also Russ as highighted by a couple of people nothing to do with the Oldies scene. In most cases, as the Soulville example mentioned, they are just Keb Darge tribute nights and the majority will be dancing to, and therefore the dj playing, the next cool thing next season. In most cases here its more about being a DJ, and sometimes earning decent money, than it is about the music. I do think in recent years some of these have become the guys Mace talks about and are now doing there own thing, still in trendy bars, still playing to younger trendy people, and they seem to be sticking to it, but mostly in Cities, London, Manchester, and most of these djs seem to also visit all nighters, and genuinely be into the music, but I supect very few of their paying punters do. The first lot are likely to buy the reissues, the second lot not. I really don't think this is whats killing the niter scene at all, which is surely a more relevant concern. From the playlists I read on here the majority are quite frankly unbelievable eye crushinginly boring and no imagination, despite being all originals. And theres the rub. Lets stop talking about format and talking about the music, the genuinely exciting new music and then I suspect you will find format becomes irrelevant. I have always thought if people are scared someone will play a boot they are following the wrong DJ's. All from my gin soaked armchair with no liklihood of going out this century so happy to be told to shut up and mind my own business!
  7. Great answer. Sadly noone is reading it and off we go into OVO or formats for home playing, again and again. Bill Murray must be due a post soon

  9. The soul man in me thought no way can that be the case, but actually all pretty good examples that cannot be argued with**, SWON ** Other than Blowing My Mind, in my opinion obviously
  10. Whats the difference between the two?
  11. Interesting info Dave, not least they used Muscle Shoals musicians, would never have picked that up from the record, with my admittedly not very educated ears!
  12. No sorry, even Time Vine's material is much much better.
  13. And there was me coming on to moan about another rock music thread, since you get so sensitive whenever I answer you on any political thread nowadays..... And get it out of freebasing and over to AATS before it veers off into progressive rock! Funny just had 3 things come up on my shuffle today in order and thought would be great adrenaline start to a set Koko Taylor Fire (amphetasoul) Erskine Mobely Luck Man (always like the one instrumental in set) Linda Jones Cant Stop Loving My Baby (Still say its her best dancer) Then Diane Lewis I Thank You Kindly and 3/4 an hour of Beat Ballads just to confirm I can't DJ
  14. Sshhhhh. I am still trying to work through the list.
  15. The Bobby McClure is a fantastic dancer with great vocals and not what you would expect from Hi, it always catches me out when it comes up on Shuffle and I think WTF is that! Great price too, please tell me the marked isn't ignoring gems like this these days?
  16. I remember at one of the Blackpool All Dayers, post Stafford, so again everyone was a bit worse for wear, Baz was dancing in his inimitable way, couple of civilians were in dancing and copying his style but with pints in hand, he had a civil word in their ear, they came back when he was DJing and started doing the same dance, this time he lept of stage and had a loud less civil word in their ear and took the pint of one of them. They seemed to dissapear soon after! It was the same weekend as we had a game of footie in the baking sun, while Pete Lawson went off to the entertainments, trying to tackle Tommo with the ball and he just kept running, away from the game till he ended up over at the donkeys, where he promptly left the ball after pulling donkeys tail, hard. Thankfully the poor thing was so docile it just looked as I tentatively pulled the ball back before trotting the 100 yards or so back to the game. Not long after Pete reappeared bare chested with a Kiss Me Quick hat and a massive candy floss, which considering he hadn't slept for a couple of days, at least, must have been like chewing a fur collar! All sadly departed now, but further proof all these chin strokers/record collectors around in the 80's didn't know how to have fun........... I think Guy/Keb worked on and off with Baz till he passed away, so they probably have some great stories of him. I didn't really know him, other than his crazy reputation, .
  17. Ady Harley played both sides back at Allanton, and he gave a spare to me, or actually I think he charged me £3 the tight get, and I played it down South a couple of times, but suspect I was playing the other side, not like me to pick the wrong side. It featured on a few tape swaps of mines, both sides. All of above late 80's. early 90's. Obviously noone was listening, again! Will check mines out for condition, sure it could be liberated for right price.
  18. I suspect you are talking about before these, but these were all the rage in the 80's and still in demand now.
  19. Dalton James & Sutton Run Baby Run. Apart from the fact its a total male vocal, it fits the bell perfectly, and he was playing it last couple of years. Awful record that used to have me running for the dance floor in my young days.
  20. Okay you have sold it to me, but if its just those repetitive UK style stuff, I will be sendimg you a personal refund request
  21. Trendy remixes though Kev, not sure you hairy chested North East blokes like these Southern DJ's messing with your Doris's. The DJ doing it is a big soul fan though so I have faith in him, and is nearly Scottish now, so worth a tenner of your hard earned I would say, go halfs with Gaz and share it! Hope you boys are good, great seeing you at DT, need to do it more this year.
  22. A remix of Doris Duke, ooooh I am scared to listen, Ashley has big balls to take that on. A bit eclectic for me, but on order now so another bit on your pension! Good to finally meet you, looking like I might be down a lot more this year post Feb, so another pint sometime!
  23. I would say the Kelly Bros first main plays in my days was probably Allanton, not sure who played that, possibly Mr Walls Jnr. but it had been a tape swappers hit for most of the 80's, originating I would say from the Preston area, with Gaz Kellet being my first contact with the record I think. How many times has that been said over the years. It certainly featured on a number of tapes I did after that. Amazing to think of that coming out on British back in the day, was it based on club plays do we know for definite? It came out on their LP didn't it also, which came out in the UK (any spare copies gratefully rehomed ) didn't it. Do people (the really old ones on here obviously) remember it as a new release, I assume it would be publicised in the specialist press of its day.
  24. Thank you Edward (your Sunday name outwith the Politics section ) and OD. I will report back with the fruits of my labour tonight!
  25. Do you have to record the video in real time for You Tube, I have a few I was thinking of adding I cannot find, but couldn't find an idiots guide to uploading to You Tube, just want to do simple picture and tune rather than any sophisticated video but was hoping to do it from MP3 recordings rather than a recording from some video machine. Any tips or directions to guide gratefully recieved.
