  1. Sitting here smugly thinking I had a pretty good record for picking up blind buys as used to do it all time, but a Ken Mathews record on Olde World seems to come back as horrible and possibly a John Wesley thing on ABC? Need to dig them out from the unloved pile as managed to sell quite a few for 3 figures out that pile over last few years. Crossover classics the pile is now called....
  2. Your mates obviously got better taste than you old boy....... See you in Cleggy row A for a shout off over whether its a good record or not!
  3. I assume you mean Bettye Swann 45 and you are not saying there is an Atlantic LP. Please don't get my hope up like that Mr G.
  4. Okay another one then, a bit schmaltzy maybe, but it blows me away every time Soul Children Poem on the Schoolhouse Door
  5. And as for Jinny Holliday search out his Man Without Love, not on YT but his finest moment in reducing grown men to a quivering pile of pulp. Tremble your way through every line with both lips wibblinglike a water wheel!
  6. Okay maybe there is a lot more than one, one of my finest moments as a DJ playing this at an all nighter and people, including me, dancing!
  7. All proper soul songs should surely, but as always there is only one winner, at risk of repeating myself and it has to be the 12" version Kim Tolliver Where Were You It hauls out the heartstrings, wrenches out the backbone, boots you in the b*llocks and stares down at you asking if you want some more. I cant do you tube clips, but search it out, if you haven't heard it and you are any sort of soul fan, your life is not complete.
  8. I keep thinking Stafford, but probably more likely the early crossover guys Mr Dearlove etc, so late 80's. It was definitely being played in the Southport soul room by end 90/91 as were so many of these records.
  9. Possibly mate. I just remember Colin and I finding a few of these in Florida mid 80's thinking we had found a biggie only to get our hopes dashed, again!
  10. And can I just say what a record, a relatively new one to me (early Lifelines?) and would stand up in any era surely. Just makes everything move in time, and without wobbling, at least thats what it feels like when dancing to something like this, Worth every penny.
  11. Didn't Butch used to play an acetate of something that this sounded like way back when he first started DJ'ing? I don't think he ever played this its self. Always happy to be corrected though....
  12. And for those that are happy to hear as much music as they can but don't worrying about missing crackles and pops, one of Kents finest releases in recent times, which is really saying something given recent output, is available cheaper than any of his 45's, and works far better in the car system. Its on repeat at the moment, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Its-Classic-Texas-Soul-1965-72/dp/B00BPBWYHU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391531843&sr=8-1&keywords=johnny+copeland
  13. On the thread I mention there, sure there is reference to a female vocal that was never released. Can't do an external search here as work sedates the hamsters so heavily it would take about 5 hours to return!
  14. Whoops just seen this link to SDF, so assume it still exists, somewhere on here is a whole Coffey/Theodore thread where they discuss this.
  15. Maybe not, I may be getting confused with Peter Hamilton on Jamies, as I always remember Searling playing that covered up as Clouds after the Edinburgh all nighter at Wigan, maybe by then it wasn't Searling as I do remember both actually being played at Clouds, and unlikely for Searling to play two instrumentals in those days, this was 80/81 so maybe moved on by then/ As Chalky says Brady was playing it at least occasionally at Stafford, so it had some legs. One of those dreamy type instrumentals that shouldn't really work but did, and very well. Good memories.
  16. It is, there used to be a great thread on the Soulful Detroit forum where they talk about their many productions and this record in particular if I remember. Not sure if that forums is still around, if it is I suspect you would love some of the musicians contributions on there.
  17. NS - Me and my mates are DJ's RW - I play old dusty records in the back room of a soon to close manky pub to 12 of my mates.
  18. Late Wigan play for Tricky Dicky was it not, cannot remember c/u name, but that should help if anyone can?
  19. I hope you didn't buy them of Paul Kyser for money..........
  20. Bloody hell mate, everyone of your lists devalues my collection by 500% at least every time Eddie Sull and Notations absolute steals for absolute class records, And Lou Bond a top dancer for me, never had a day, a few plays here and who knows! And nice demo on the Valentinos, don't see that too often. If you have their other record on that label I could probably stretch to a few pounds more for that! Real bargains there.
  21. I assumed he was meaning on records so rare or obscure. One I stumbled on recently due a a fantastic compiliation having extract of both sides, was Cody Black Keep On Keeping On, other side of the Pat Brady monster that is Slowly Molding, a rumbling mumbling magnificent Detroit mid tempo thing that has the Mr Gilly Gilbert written all over it. Completely new to my ears until then and I couldn't find it on You Tube etc.
  22. The money in freshly printed scottish £20 notes is waiting here for you if my offer suddenly becomes the best. The rest of you are a shower of b**stards for not agreeing with me.
  23. A Tony Fox appeared on Discogs yesterday for £89 and I would think it was original based on seller (Lee Jeffries), It had dissapeared by this morning before I could press buy! According to Discogs the most paid for one on there is £120, although there is one for £199 and one for £300 on there for sale. And of course it has been recently reissued, which I assume based on comments is not legit, as a complete look a like. There have always been copies around but its been a keeper, and until recently had held its price, it seems to be dropping now. I would pay £100 crisp new notes for one, I would sell it now before £89 is the going rate! However I would think you might get a little more on an open auction. Bobby Thurston on other hand I would say is very rare, very rarely see it, so wouldn't like to give a price. And to think I had two at one point, one without a cover as it was still covered up when my mate had bought it! However Bobby Thurston is pretty crap, but as I am feeling incredibly generous I would probably take it off you, as an amazing show of humanity and generousity, for the same £100. I think you again might just get a smidgen more on open auction. You have some very tasty LP's young man, I would start looking up Porches/Pensions depending on your age.
  24. But if you had went around telling everyone you were a big DJ with a box of boots by mid 70's surely you would have had as much ridicule then. I agree the original point of the argument has been well lost, with in my opinion some of the anti's being as daft as the pros in their arguments.
  25. I think there are 7 differing discussions going on, including this one!
