I was always under the impression it was Maggie Bell and Frankie Miller, if true a good Scottish soul song (however was told in the early 80's when rumours about singers real identities were not so reliable as todays internet world). Anyone confirm? Cheers Jock
-
Fraser am sunning myself in South Of Spain till 18/09 so will send out mines then, hope to see you soon (Dennis Probert is putting on night of y2k soul in Edinburgh 25/09 I think, should be worth a visit). Cheers Jock PS HAve brought a number of cd´s here to listen to as had no time before. Chalkys, Scottys, Al &Kollas are all superb, on heavy rotation at moment.

Oh Dear Ady, realised not made it to the 100 club in a while but never realised you now played at a 80's revival night also. What have you started, the Smiths & Housemartins, thought I had jumped to wrong site!! Well enough cheek for Ady, small note to say hope anniversary goes well, as I am overseas another night I will miss! Cheers Jock
-
Four Tops - Something About You or Baby I Need Your Loving, uplifting music of the best especially when played in the middle of a set of rarities, reminds you that sometimes the best did rise to the top. Cheers Jock PS I am sure Mr Croasdell knicked these for his set after hearing them played by the adventurous lads from up North (and I mean Scotland not Watford Ady!). Cheers

Ben E King _ I Cant Break The News To Myself (Greek Atlantic) something given to me as freeby many years ago in among a number of Greek Atlantic issues of Aretha, Don Covay etc. Never realised there was any interest in this until recently! Cheers Jock

Dont like this thread I paid £10 for the Caressors and £20 for the Magnetics, sold them both 10 years later for a huge profit on my purchase price but............. a huge loss on todays value, especially the Caressors, Did decide wanted to buy the 100 or so tunes I sold, think need to take a night class in bank robbing to have any chance!! Oh well, back to looking for the bargains of the 2010;s anyone?? Cheers Jock

I stand corrected on my earlier post Colin did in fact get all 12 from Craig, seemingly they were the last of his bunch, hence other dealers also having them. Teach me to check my memory banks before I spout, a symptom of my mispent middle youth!! Dan I assume that answers your private mail now and you no longer need Colins details, or were you hoping that some are still lying at the source! Cheers Jock

Coincidence Leo, went looking through 45's last night (so good to have them back!) to find the Rick James that had plays and it was Fool On The Street, was played at Rotherham, great little tune. I am sure the 45 is very different to the album version (Busting Out Of L7 ???) where he has an interesting monolugue about Mary Jane. Gareth didnt mean he wasnt soulful, just he wasnt the rip roaring gutbucket type singer like Womack or Teddy P, he was certainly soulful to me. Once sorted my albums think I will have a Rick James tribute evening. Big Time! Cheers Jock

ANyway let me know, a couple of things from earlier posts Barbarra Mason - Make It Last she is backed by the Futures. The Fantastic Four you refer to Chalky was a huge play at Allanton, so much so when I played down South Roger Banks would have a stock ready to sell to questioning punters!! Chalkie, how much is the Jimmy Burns now a days, one of the few I sold but have never seen another since. One of my all time top faves. Got most of the cd's yesterday, will get round to them probably next week and will post mid week Cheers Jock PS Having not pulled some of these out for 5 years (and more) thought they would be much slower than were (some anyway), must be sign of my age!!
-
Colin Law from Scotland turned up at least 12 of these in the 80's also, these were not from Craig and others were turned up from same source. Got one for free from him, but sold for more than that but less than todays value!! Interestingly when Colin had them he found them difficult to shift, but established dealers had copies for more money that they sold easily, strange world of etc. Do think it is relatively rare however, but agree a large part of its rarity is people seem to hold on to this (probably until the price hits a certain level and then...) Cheers Jock

Am doing mines tonight, so will be out tomorrow. Which fantastic 4 track is on cd as I was going to put one up? Probably a bit late now but may be worth putting up listings to avoid too much duplication Cheers Jock
-
Tying in with another thread think you will find this was also a big spin at Allanton in 80's. was a long term favorite there also, A pretty good sign if it had Randys approval. Cheers Jock

Patti Labelle - All Or Nothing Atlantic TP paid £2 probably worth all of £3.50 today, fantastic record but also a special memory of a crazy but very special guy Pete Lawson, havent played the record for about 7 years but am going to dig it out of its box and remember, then think will put it on cd swap!

Close to where the Allanton niters took place for a few years (late 80's early 90's). A niter which was years ahead of it's time IMHO, sounds broke and played there still doing the rounds JOhn?? I assume that is JG? If so how are you, its Jock O'Connor here. How are you, tell Jim I am definitely going tp call him! Interesting quote, I am actually trying to put together an article for one of the fanzines on the Scottish scene of the 80's focussing on CLouds/Glenrothes/Allanton and how these influenced progressive scene. Chalky interesting flyer, have a number of different flyers and callnig cards that we done under Jims banner of Ruff Cut Soul, well it seemed funny then, Despite Jim being one of my best friends he still managed to spell my name wrongly on that These were great days indeed! I am from Edinburgh via Musselburgh and Frankfurt, just to keep on topic!

Thanks for the help folks, not sure where I got the Saracens from, think on their web site, it is the same one and have contacted them, So well spotted everyone, even though as Kolla spotted I forgot to say where it was. Cheers Jock PS In case you are interested (which I appreciate you are not but I just want to talk about it again) I was buying new sleeves for my lovely records recently returned from storeage, its just like falling in love again!!!
-
Hi there can anyone give me a number for the Saracens (?) disco and karoake centre, ordered some record covers but lost there number, think that was the title, it sells various disco stuff as well as a tasty 7" acution that seems to appear. Anyone help Cheers Jock

Rideout is way superior to Alfie Davidson in my humble opinion, far more complex musically. Would love to know value of this also as one of my records that have been lovingly received out of storeage recently, sad but true, one of the nicest days of this year so far! I digress, Rideout, if I remember rightly was Mr Searlings last ever record at the Casino (and should be noted he, like many of us only went to the first and the official last night, if that makes sense)
-
I dont mind either the more the merrier. Started mines last night, being a child (I wish) of the 80's Northern scene wise anyway, realised my midtempo may be abit slower than some of the things discussed, hope thats okay for most. Cheers Jock
-
Agree he seems to have been missed out, not the most soulful singer maybe but one of a kind, introduced me to the funkier side in the 80's and bought most of his stuff, really opened me to a lot of different stuff, have very happy memories based round his music, what more can you ask. He was a musical genuis, just dont think his mind was always on the music. He does have a couple of things that would interest the more broad minded Northern fan I reckon, one which the title escapes me was a huge play at Rotherham, although you had to listen to the LP version to get the real essence of Rick James. Thanks a bundle Rick. R.I.P

I would like to take part, have to plead guilty to some of the objections raised by other member (late for other swap and entering swap with no right equipment) however cd recorder on order now so should be okay by time you get started. Hopefully thats okay. Cheers Jock
-
Kolla stop letting the side down, you are supposed to be a posh Scottish bird!!! Only kidding, honest Jock
-
Why what happened in 1966? Thankfully tv hadnt reached Scotland then so we were blissfully ignorant of any insignificant happenigns that might have happened that year! Ciao Jock
-
Thanks Janine, was scared about that (of course I now notice my deliberate mistake, its Bernard Smith), makes the £10 I gave to Andy seem a bit mean. Another on the virtual wants list then (as in virtually no chance of getting it a decent price!) Cheers Jock Jock

Somebody told me this site was the place to find an attractive, witty, intelligent, knowledgable, soulful and posh Scottish girl. They also said that Kolla was on it as well. I have done all my bad behaviour on another site where I have been trying to do some English baiting re footie, it worked for a while but they soon realised ignoring me meant they won. Anyway back on topic, info re the Bernard Williams anyone ?? Would love a copy back, it would make my sick granny a very happy woman. Cheers Jock PS Was there not someone on the scene (from ormskirk?) called Kathy Kirby? Mel can you confirm?
