  1. Ive had exactly the same experience there, except I didnt go back, he started off by saying that he had 100's of wants lists asking for Shrine records so dont bother!! I couldnt think of a thing as didnt want to ask for to rare things so ended up asking for some deep things which interestingly enough were all $10 also!! He has some pretty good albums though not always cheap, have done well a couple of times there. Its a really good area round there for records, not sure why. Cheers Jock
  2. I have it on an 1978 Soul album, maybe a California label by then but the credits have a big Chicago influence on this album, absolutely great track, forgot about this, sure there are a couple on this album, have just dug it out to play. Good Choice. Also just dug out the Contempo Deep Soul lps, amazing LP;s, and he does a great ballad on one called Dark and Lonely very different for him but I love it. If interested can try and put a sound file up later (not done it before but will try). Cheers Jock
  3. Major Lance - only because he is black obviously! Cheers Jock
  4. You Dont Want Me No More - proper old school Northern Soul for a relative youngster like me !! Cheers Jock
  5. The story is in an SKM., sure Mr Rimmer would like to tell the story also, no surprise that he was a mystery and was ripped off for his last record on Revue. Anyone want to sell me DTYBOM for reasonable price to replace the one I sold for a pittance!! Cheers Jock
  6. Hi there, i have black issue and it doesnt mention Imperial Showband, there are a couple of releases on Musicor that are by IS and I have read they are definitely Tommy Tate. I thought it was confirmed (by TT) that the verve 45 was him, anyone confirm that is not just my imagination, its hard to tell from that side, but listening to the flip side which I also like, its a bit more like his Koko sides vocally, however still suggest its not clear from voice alone its him Not sure of value 30 to 40 max, suppose there may be interest from Japan for TT collectors but not sure, have seen more blue ones I think, but to be honest not sure of rarest. Not much help in other words! Cheers Jock
  7. No you completely misread my previous post which is why I deleleted it, my rant was obviously not as clear as I thought, and since I had written it in a foul mood though I would delete. Cheers Jock "baa baa" O'Connor
  8. I think you will find you are the only one that is talking black/white, ( ) as someone pointed out most, myselof included, didnt know Donni Burdick is white. I think Burdicks version is quite soulful although nowhere near as good as Edwin. Main surprise is you like either version as both are quite soulful. Happy New Soulful Year Jock
  9. delete
  10. Not strictly Northern but pure amphetasoul The Contours - Do You Love Me. great example of Blackamerican music! Cheers Jock
  11. Old Dave Withers cover up pre Stafford, think, fairly sure Guy gave it some welly, possibly at Stafford, certainly played long before mid 80s in London!! Cheers Jock
  12. Now that was a bad'un!! some European disco 12, a friend still has a couple of copies hidden-thankfully, will find out the name when I can be bothered! link Gday Mr Smith, was that not the thing on MGM (LP and 45) Harley Hatcher ?? Memory fails as ever but sure Keith Whitson has this. Cheers Jock
  13. Tiny venue if I remember rightly, Arthur/Sam nighters upfront modern nighter but also Soul Appreciation Society (??) Searling/Bernie Golding night if I remember. Dont remember much about them, although thats not surprise for me!! I am sure we chatted in these days Steve, I was quite friendly with Gary R so was often standing chatting on stage. You were partial to more than a few decent 70's in these days if I remember rightly. Great comments about Poke, some wonderful records, funny you mention about him being before Richard as sure remember him telling me he got records from Anderson in 70's like Betty Boo before Richard but wasnt as high profile, he played a great acetate if Just Like The Weather at Clifton Halls did he not, do you remember anything about that? Cheers Jock
  14. Hi Hippo, bit late on this but would be glad to swap with you, check my tracklist however (in original thread) as not sure there will be much you dont know I would think. Let me know and pm me your address if you are interested, my address is 11/8 Newhaven Place Edinburgh. eh6 4tw Scotland. Miss Goldie, thats also the address for you to send yours, apologies for not getting back sooner. Jason in USA I have had your cd returned a second time, my fault this time as I copied the wrong post code again!! Huge apologies, will send it out to you over weekend. Cant believe your post returns it for one number!! Cheers Jock
  15. Magnetics I assume, The b side of I Have A Girl on RASEL was Love and Devotion, I used to like it, a bit of a plodder rather than one to grab you buy the testicles! Did play it out a couple of times but general theory was it wasnt up to much, must have been me again!! Cheers Jock PS Lenny are you coming over to Edinburgh tomorrow? Also is it true you are having a xmas bash next week at Caley Soul, am dead keen to get over to one.
  16. Thanks Ali.
  17. Cheers Andy, only have one of his soul city 45's so will search this out as I love Al Wilson. I am excused that night as if you remember we arrived just as you finished due to Arthur getting lost in Wigan!! I got it for a tenner, along with the Bernard Williams on Spectrum for same price!! Probably off topic now but did you get dates for Orwell in 2005, might just make another trip down Cheers Jock
  18. HI John, just realised not only do I have that 45 I put CC on the most recent midtempo swap cd here so its not even been back on the shelves that long!! Staying in is killing my memory!! Totally agree on the other side, would sound just right on one of your camping weeekends, (thats the weekends you spend in a tent rather than any slight on your masculinity!). Some nice choices there Mr Trout, as would expect. Whats the story on the Masterpiece 45, is that getting plays? Was one of a batch that soul ledgend Andy Whitmore and his lovely wife Suzanne put me on to at end of eighties, all were great records but particlularly liked this, tried it out a few times in the dark ages but not much interest. Cheers Jock
  19. Andy what label is Al Wilson on?? Seem to remember the title but cant place the record at moment, love all his stuff. To keep on thread how about the daddy of soul Eddie Parker Im Gone/Cryin Clown, is CC on a cd anywhere? If not may have to buy my first boot in years!! Cheers Jock
  20. Jackie Beavers on Revilot does it for me (dont own it), keep changing my mind on favorite side, gone back to I Need My Baby now, Richard S at his peak !! Also Dynamics Lights Out/ou make Me Feel Good, not both Northern but probably in my top ten of slabs of soul for the deep side! Cheers Jock PS Is it my imagination or did Detroit produce a far higher percentage of double siders than anywhere else?
  21. Was this not just an acetate, the one I seen had a Grapevine label stuck on it, think this resided in Scotland for time also, would like to hear this now, has it stood the test of time ???? cheers Jock
