  1. Not meaning to drag this on but listening to some more albums whilst working away revealed a couple of great covers. Esther Phillips - Native New Yorker, great stepping version, First Choice - Let Me Down Easy, suporb version of the rare Pleasure gem, a few others I came across Younghearts - All The Love In The World/Do You Have The Time To Waste (awesome side) LV Johnson Are You Serious Sandra Feva - Leaving This Time. Can do mp3s at moment as cant work out how to hook cd into mixer/turntables, terchnically beyond me at moment, when can work it out am happy to put these and other postings on cd if anyone wants a copy pm me, Cheers Jock
  2. I would say much more like Iain Botham - although obviously not when playing cricket, allegedly!
  3. Always liked this one much better, but as you say the vocals just a bit too off the wall,
  4. Hi Derek, Not a lot, all work and no play at moment, although due to long working hours am spending too much on records, just dont have time to listen to them!! I am hoping to get to Lifeline on Saturday but depends on work situation Friday, keep threatening to come down your neck of woods one day for either one of Pauls dos or Ions, if do we should meet up for a beer, hoping to talk Steve into going to Stafford reunion, havent spoken to him in a while, Cheers Jock
  5. They're coming to Take You Away (b side of Rose Brooks Im Moaning, played this once at end of Allanton, after last record, sure somebody tried to dance, which was pretty unusual as noone did for the spot proper ) Serious answer Gloria Jones - Come Go With Me, proper Northern Soul! Cheers Jock
  6. 7. 1 was soul source was it not, Have a whole load of fanzines back to 70's (bought them second hand obviously) and some B&S back to when it started wasting away in my sisters loft, must rescue them some time!!
  8. Great choice, probably their best, but since its been picked will go for With These Hands, and Trouble Heartache and Pain, have them on LP not sure if on 45. To be honest this has made me realise they are a pretty consistent group for quality.
  9. One of my all time top 1, absolutely love it, memories of first getting into new sounds and meeting Dave Molloy thanks to Searlings regular trips North of Border late 70's. this is my Northern Soul heaven, cant wait to get home and listen! Re the unnissued Sussex one that Dicky had, thought that had changed hands and Rob M had it for a while, anyone remember or was that one of Robs cuts!! That has made my day!! Cheers Jock
  10. hI another one to james.oconnor9@btinternet.com thanks
  11. Hi Pete, hope you are well, Was talking about this recently, was this covered up as Casinos Strut by Richard and available on 45 and LP?? Frank Foster is definitely the Daddy of all instrumentals, gets me by the bollocks!! Anyone remember Hey Girl - Peter Hamilton (?) on Jamie? Searling covered it up as Clouds as tribute to Clouds All Nighter in Edinburgh Cheers Jock
  12. I am on no buy period or might have been interested, will stick to the one sided demo I have wihout con me! Stick it on ebay and think you will see it fly across sea, last one was about $80 which I think is quite cheap. Gareth or Steve G would probably have better idea of current value! Cheers Jock
  13. Hi Ken, think Caroline from Nottingham has heard from him recently, dont think he was doing too well last I heard, Caroline knows more. Cheers Jock PS spot on with Phil being a top geezer.
  14. Think Rod Dearlove had some recently for £25, great record. Dont think my labels are reversed Roger, must check, not played it for a long time!! Cheers Jock
  15. Too many sherpbet dips over years! Are you going to Stafford do, I asked Paul why you didnt go to Prestatyn and he said you have given up going out, cant be true!!
  16. Dont remember this, sounds interesting, thought I did remember record with same title by Headliners played by Keb, another false memory from me?? Anyone remember ? Cheers Jockl
  17. Big play for Marc Linton, think he bought it covered up.
  18. Cliff Wagner - exception to the rul on Jewel which I think he said was ultra rare, which its definitely not, but he was right in saying its a great record, anyone going to sell me one for under £30?? Cheers Jock
  19. As said on other site have seen the 45, its in Andy D's collection, fantastic record, always assumed LP only, was wondering do you think its passed everyone by because the original of the other side is so easy to obtain?? Cheers Jock
  20. Oh Ady, having all released stuff by her solo and as Ashford & Simpson need to hear this. On a Kent cd, soon please? Do you have much unreleased by her? Were these recorded as demos for songs or were they for released recordings by her? Feel free to write essay on her 60's recordings as dont know much about that period apart from the Motown phase. Cheers Jock
  21. I am sure I have this too, just on a plain blue label, was never sure if it was real one or not had it years, must dig it out and see if real, Cheers Jock
  22. One of the biggest sounds in Scotland in 78 to 82 for Bruce Hanning (RIP) and Jolly, never heard it much down South and not heard it many places since early 80's. Was there not a very rare demo (green?), not big on British so welcome any corrections!!! Cheers Jock
  23. Hmm interesting point, I live in Edinburgh but have only been a casual outsider on the scene for last 10 years or so and but have to say have learnt more about it thanks to this topic, and I dont mean the infighting obviously going on, more mean the excellent site advertised here and the links to Soul Scotland, to be honest I didnt realise so much was going on. Always did like the Spiders Web as venue, proper Northern Soul venue, but never thought the nights there would be to my interest, but reading Georges site will definitely pop along sometime, dont think I know the guys running so am keen to have a look. If its any consolation there has always been politics on Scottish soul scene, just like the wider English scene, seems to come with the soul scene!! Lenny not sure if you are the same guy but by any chance did you go see Maze in Manchester early 80's with free tickets from Tom Wilson, if so I am one of the guys who you gave a lift to!! If so hello how are you doing. Cheers Jock
  24. Fantastic album, one of my favorite all time albums, although I love Freddie Hughes generally. Quite rare I think now, not sure if been reissued, anybody? Can do you a cdr of it if you want to hear it first, pm if interested. Cheers Jock
